TITLE: The Design-of Truss Systems by the Triangle Method (Raschet sterzhnevykh sistem sposobom treugollnikov) PERIODICAL: Zap. Lenin gr. zaoch. industr. in-ta, Leningrad, LGU, 1955, pp 23-53 ABSTRACT: The method for the design of a plane truss system involves tw'o'prin-. cipal unknown factors, namely, the relative elongations of the rnem- bers and the linear displacements of the supports. The triangle method combines the fairly unsuccessful vers 'ions of the method of displacements and the method of fixed points. Certain steps in! them computations require additional investigation. The triangle method does not offer any advantages over the known methods of designing' truss systems. L. N. Leningr. korablestroit. in-ta, 1955, Vol 16,~ pp 60-75: ABSTRACT: Examination of the terminal coupling link of a chain, equipped with a stud link. The calculation is based on aschematic non- hinged semicircular arch with clamped ends. The loading is assumed to be uniformly distributed over a 90-degree, apex angle. The following loads were investigated: 1) the load that Lauses the phenomenon of creep; 2) the load that corresponds to the formation of plastic hinging; and 3) the rupture1oad, It is noted that the computed rupture load agrees quantitatively with that determined experimentally (within 3. 50/0). 1. A large number of exmples are given which Interpret, fatigue as a came of accidents in variou s.branchas of engineering. Home-building forecasts in Murmansk Oblast' 'Indicate continuing increases, ranging from 220,000 m2 in 1962 to 900,000 m2 nn ually In the period from 1970 to 1980. Labor costs at the edge of the a Arctic Circle are almost 8~% greater than In the mid-latitudes of the USSRP and over-all costs tend to rise even more due to the severe ctimatic conditions; when piecemeal construction methods are used. 71-e suggested prefabrication 'techniques require the solution of problems involved in building the large panels and in finding effective building and thermal insulation materials. I Card 1/3 9r7.r L 32902-66 ACC NRt AT6023833 These problems can either be assigned to the home-building activities in .Leningrad and Moscow,. or by organizing production centers in Murmansk Oblast'. Advantages of developing this industry in Murmansk include the produc- of _portland cement from the byproducts of double superpqLosphate manu- facture. Also, Murmansk has one of the largest deposits of vermiculite in .the Soviet Union. Large local deposits of other materials can provide ade- quate supplies for silicate manufactures, thereby eliminating the expense of transportation. Comparative cost tables are given for various materials manufactured in the three suggested regionst showing that although Initial 'manufacturing costs are higher in Murmansk than in Leningrad or Moscow, ,transportation costs invariably make the latter's materials more expensive .'b :_y 42 and 59% respectively., 2 2 To,achieve the norm of 12 m per person, 12 million m of housing is .required* which means that 8.2 million M2 must be built, as well as 1. 9 2. million= of public buildings. "Investigations on therEffect of Devincan on the Cerebral Circulation Venous Pressure in the Brain and Oxygen Consumption of the Brain In Humans," Budapest, Kiserletes Orvostudomany, Vol XV, No 3, June 1963, pp 284-206. Abstract: [Authors' Hungarian summary] The effect of Devincan on the circulaBon and oxygen consumption of the brain has been studied on 3.1 (mostly hypertensive) patients. After administration of Devincan, in addition to a moderate lowering of the blood pressure, the blood flow in the brain increased somewhat and the resistance of Vie brain vessels decreased. The venous pressure change was not uniform, but decreased slightly in the majority of the cases studied. Oxygen consumption of the brain was virtually unchanged. As a result of the studyg the authors advocate an attempt for the therapeutic use of Devincan in cases of hypertension complicated by cerebral circulation disturbances. 2 Hungar Wi, 3 Western references. :3 SOLTI, Fle, ISKUM, M., MARK# GY-P HKRWN, R.; Medical UnIveralty of Buda- POO. The group with normal circulation showed a slight decrease in venous pressure and a simultaneous increase In the venous tons. In decompensated patients, an acute decrease of the circulating blood volume can lead to a significant lowering of the Yenou3 pro3sure and the venous tone, Because of the stronger rolmtion of the venous wall, the venous pressure of decomponsatod patients increases slowly after re- moval of the tourniquet. 4 Western refdrences. Abstract [Authors' Ehglish su=ary]: In dogs with crossed circulation,. and isolated perfusion of the head, the effect on coronary circulation of isolated cerebral and isolated trunk hypoxia has been studied. In response to isolated cerebral hypoxia, coronary flow decreased and coronary resistance significantly increased. After the relief of hypoxia coronary dilatation with a significant dimInution of coronary resistance occurred. Under isolated trunk hypoxia coronary flow was considerably increased and coronary resistance decreased. Cardiac out- put increased slightly in isolated cerebral hypoxia. ozJ significantly in isolated trunk hypoxia. BIQod pressure 1wrea3ed significantly in both cases. ISKUM~ giklqs MMGAIrd F1 I. Guana.
