PERIODICAL: Energomashinostroyeniye,, 1961, No. 2, pp. 1?-21
TEXT.-. It is important to know the temperatuxe distribution
in the stator and rotor of gas turbines but work done hitherto has
provided only incomplete information on this subject. Accordingly,
Laboratoriya gazovykhturbin (the Gas Tuxbine Laboratory) of
Ts KTI imeni I. I. Po-lzunov made an experimental. inveatigation of
the temperature distribution in the rotor Luid stator of a gas
turbine type GT-600-1-5 made by the NZL. The followLng measure-
ments were made. The metal temperatuie at various points in the
rotor; the flow temperature and pressure of cooling air delivered
to or removed from the Glands; the pressure and. temperature of gas
at inlet to and exhaust from the turb-ine and in the flow pal;h; and
the air flow in the comprezsor,. It wao particularly difficult to
measure the temperature in the gas-turbine rotor, alcl it ran at

5 000 r.p.m. and operated with a maximum Gas temperature at inlet
of 6000C. A total of 72 thermocouples j;ere installed at the
positions shown in Fig. 1. The construction of the thermocouples,
the method of installation and the instrument-ation are described.
The slip-rings used to make con.nection with the thermocouples on
the rotor were initially mounted on a separate baseplate, but as
the rotor expanded the brushes became displaced from the rings.
Eventually the arrangement was mounted on an overhung bracket from
the turbine bearing pedestal. The temperature distribution of the
gas-turbine rotor was studied with various ratos of starting up the
set and with the high-temperature gland of t-fte V~trbine operating
under various conditions. In all the tests the outermost annulusof
gland was connected to the intake of the turbine compressor. Hot
air taken from beyond the regenerator was deliveXed to the
annulus of the low-pressure gland. The test results are given in
Fig. 3; the thermocouple numbers correspond -to t'hi.ose Given in

and white triangles the cooling air temperature. It will be noted
that a steady temperature state is reached about five hours after
starting. The maximum temperature in the rotor bore occurs under
the first stage and here the temperature difference radially across
the rotor is greatest. The influence of rate of starting u~p was
studied and the results are briefly discussed. The tests showed
that the temperature of the. cooling gas passing tbrough the high-
temperature gland of the turbine has a considerable influence on
the temperature distribution in the rotor. In partic.ular, when
the air delivered to the front -land is taken fi,om beyond instead
of in front of the regenerator, the maximum temperature difference
across the rotor near the firS6 stage is reduc4-:.,d from 24010 to
180*C. This difference becomes smaller when the rotor has reached
a steady temperature but still remains considerable. The experi-
mental material obtained about the temperature distribution in the
rotor can serve as a basis for calculating temperature stresses
and for recommending starting conditioa5 for this type of turbine

SOURCE: Tyl i onabzheniy-- sovetskikh vooruzhennykh oil, no. ID, 1966, 71-72
TOPIC TAGS: floating bridge, military bridge, portable bridge, militairy engineering
ABSTRACT: Officers of the military conumanications service imd the engineer, forces
have designed, org%Azed the laying, and tested a floating bridge made of a combination of
600-ton-capacity flat river barges, demountable loading and unloading ramps, and a
wooden scaffold. It was tested over a 98 m wide- river. A 40-m-long scaffold vas firsi
built over a pile foundation-which was designed to support 60 tone; then four barges
were linked In pairs and anchored, and the entire structure ims interconnected by threi
demountable freight-handling metal ramps. Cables from the end barges to the scaffold
on one bank and posts on the other bank added stability to tbe bridge. The bridge
has a 24-hour capacity of 12,000. vehicles traveling 10 km/hr at 20-a intervals. TIM
center section of ;the bridge, composed of two barges and acovesories, can be wred
by a 150-hp tug to allow for the passage of 18-m beam vessels. Orig. art. ban:

ABSTRACT: Internal heat sources exist in a flow of liquid, which carries
radioactive impurities with it, or ff an electric current pas-
ses through a liquid metal beam. The influence exercised by heat
sources upon the thermal coefficient; is theoretically lnves-~,i-
gated for the case in which the liqufd carrying sournes with
it moves within a round tube. The iu'be is assumed -.o be saf-
ficiently long in order that the places of disturban,.e at the
entry of the liquid into the tube may be neglected. The formulas
are written down practically without deduction, and the in-
fluence exercised by the density of the internal- heat scuroe
upon a stabilizing heat transfer in -the tube is shown gra hical-
