TEXT: For the purpose of examinin 6he possibility of enlarging the raw
material basis for the production -" olefin rubber, a study has been made
of the effect of Daraffin-naphthene hydrocarbons (1) and aromatics (11), V~/
isolated from different kinds of petroleum at different stages of
processing, on the physicomechanical properties of standard rubbers from
CVC-30 A (SKS-30A) .Addition of I and II in an amount of 35~f! to a mixture
of rubber and softenEr deteriorates the physicomechanical properties of
vulcanizates and enhances their elasticity. The tensile strength of rubber
containine I drops from 274 (standard rubber) to 173 - 226 kgf/cm2 while

its tear resistance (1:-ops from 81 to 47 - 54 kqf/5M. The tensile strength
of rubber containing II drops to 200 - 245 kCf1cm and its tear resistance
to 52 - 64 k,-,f/cm. The thermal stability and the bonding strength of
doutled rubbers decrease substantially after vulcani7ation. High-molecular
products of comparatively higher viscosity deteriorate the strength
properties of rubber leas than do low-mo*-(, ular ones. A test of 29 products,
obtained from different.l.v processed petr--'.um asphalts, deasphalted products,
di~;'Lillates, and raffinates, have shown teat the most interesting of these
oroducts are a deasphalted petroleum ajphalt, the residual high-viscositty VK
oil, a secondary raffinate, and an aviation tar. These products ensure
satisfactory phygicomechanical nropertiei,, elasticity, and brittleness
temnerature (-50 G) of Vill Cilrli7ates . [Abstracler's note: Comnlete trans-

ABSTRACT: Filled vulcanizates of -the protector type were invustigated. These
consisted mainly of a butadiene (70%) - styrene (30%) copolymer, containing in
most instances 0o5, 0.8. and 1.25% methacrylic acid, 2.5% MgO, 1% Zn0, 2.5%
thiuram, and 1% sulfur. The filler consisted of 20% (by weight) channel carbon
black and 20,10 gas chivLney carbon black. It was found that the creep (at 1~OC
under constant load) of the test samples decreased with an increase in methacrylic
acid contenb, while the durability and resistance to stretch fatigue w6at up

sharply. On the other hand, under the affect of a reversed bending test with a
twist, the durability of the vulcanizates decreased with higher Methacrylic acid
content. The authors attribute this to a higher modulus of internal friction.
Since it is also knmrn that substantial scorching takes place in the process,of
vul-anization of rubbers containing carboxyl groups, the authors recommend limiting
the methacrylic acid content in butadiene-styrene nibbers to 0.5-0.8,'*'. Orig. art.

ADS MICT: This Author Certificate presents a device-for measuring indicatei power in.
the cylinder of piston engines. The device contains a pressure transduoerp an ampli-
fiert a double-coil wattaoterp and a control resistance.' To obtain the arithmetic
nean value of.the indicated power ofs piston engine* two synchronous generator$ are
connected in one of the coils of the watimeter (see Fig. 1).

TITLE: Windmill "A-12"(Vetrodvigatell
PERIODICAL: Nauka i Zhiznl, 1957, # 7, p 63 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: A new multipurpose indmill"A-12" has been recently devised,
which is mounted on a 16 m high tower and develops a maximum
power of up to 15 HP at a wind velocity of 8 m per-second. It
is equipped with a centrifugal aerodynamic regulator providing
an even rotation of the blades at high wind velocity. The.wind-
driven wheel has a diameter of 12 m and consists of three pro-
filed holl-ow blades whose ends can turn in the direction of the
wind. The wind-driven wheel turns in the direction of the wind
by means of a vane. The windmill can be used for driving water
pumps, feed mills, and electric generators%
