International Congress on Glass held in Paris (July 1956), Stan, worth (Stenvort) and Rauson (Rouson) spoke about the synthesis of new types of glass obtained on the basis of oxides of the rare metals tellurium, vanadium, molybdenum, tungsten, titanium, tanta- lum and nidbium. It riust be considered a special feature of these systems that Te021 V205' 11003 and I*io3cannot be obtained in a vitreous state, except by the addition of certain quantities of a second oxide, vihich may be selected either from the rrtmiber of glass-forming (P205, As203 , Ge02) or from that of the modifying oxides (%0, BaO, PbO eto.). The new compositions are of interest with respect to the structure of the glass as they have physical and chemical properties of practical value, viz. a particularly lo,a electric resistance as Yvll as some properties of semiconauc- tors. The Chair of Technology of Glass MTI imeni D.I.Menaeleyev Card 113 carried out research vioric in connection Yrith types of glass on the Th~~ Synthtsj.3 and Investigation of Some Types 72-58-6-4/19 of Vanadi-'xm Glass basi.i of V295' On the strength of this work the ranges of gl&,js formation in the systems V205 - P205"-~'W (fig- 1) and V205_P295_""03 (fig. 2) vmra determined. The layers were composed of pure chemical reagents. All types of vanadium glass obtained ar-, blaok, and their chemical stability is very low. The specific e "actrio msistance Yras measured 'by means of the inegohmmeter ~ MOM-2 in the temperature interval of 20-2000 (table 1). The di- electric constants of the types of glass were measured by means of a devica of the type KV-11. The linear dilatation coeffir4pnt was meazured by means of the quartz dilatometer of thz Glaaa Irwtitate in the temperature interval of 220-2000 (fie,-3 ana table 2). Types of glans -;dth a high V205 content are completely destroyed in cold water in that they form a stable solution. The highest degree of chemical stability is to be found with glass types having a high content ofIM 3* Vanadium glasses are conmizt- ely imper,&us to light for the visible part of the spectrum, b-.~- they allow infrared rays within range of a vaivelength of about 4~t to pass through them, which was found out by means of the Ca,:-d 2/3 infrared spectrometer lKS-Ii. The spectral curves are given in The Synthesis and Investigation of Some Types 72- 58.6-L/ 19 of Vanadiwn Glass fig. 1~. It is of theoretical and practical interest to study the various types of vanadium glass, and research work- concerning the properties of these types of glass ou,,-,ht to be continued. There are 4 figures, 2 tables, and 2 references, () of which are So-viet. ASSOCIATIOIT: I.:oskovslciy khimiko-tekhnologicheskiy institut imeni D.I. Pro- DG.rtionq.lity was found to exist between the coefficient of the thermo-emf and the con-.entration of ROX. As shown by Fig. 8, the coefficient of the thermo-:~mf decreases with increasing ordinal number of the elements of the second main group of the periodic system, the oxides of which are urd,ir corsideration. An increase in the contents of elements of the fifth main group leads to the opposite effect. The authors arrived at the conclusion that the glasses investigated have an intrinsic conduc- tivity of mixed n-p type, which is not influenced by impurities. This is explained by the different parts played by impurities in a crystal lattice and in an amorphous glass having no long-range order. Volokhov, from the Central Scientific-Research Laboratory of Mine Rescue have developed a self-contained gas and heat protective suit (author certificate no. 180098). The coolant is liquid oxygen or liquid air. i The gas produced in the cooling system is for breathing. It is fed in at a rate of 100 L/min. The upper part of the system is made from duralumin; it is doubled in the area of, the head and chest. - On the outside the suit is insulated with foamed polyurethane and covered with a glass reinforced plastic. The pants and sleeves are made of two layers of heat resistant fiber and a layer of glass wool. Liquid air can be fed into the suit through Cord 1/2 UDC:' none -;kdC NR, -AP7663418 the gasline regardless' of the position of ~he wearer. The first experimental suit is being tested; use of the suit makes it possible to wo.rk for 1 1/2 hr at 100C. Inside the suit, -near the head and torso the temperature does not exceed 24C. The suit weighs 25 kg, but as the gas escapes its weight. decreases to 15 kg. Orig. art. has: 1 .figure. A tank with a liquid gas for ex=plo, oxygon, connects with the intornal cavity of the space suit (see Fig. 1~. The design provides normal breathing without regeneration of the exhaled air. An evaporation rate regulator is mounted on the tank. The rogulator is a sylphon bellows connecting with the valve of the liquid gas supply. The inner ca;vity of 'the sylphon bellows connects with the atmos- phore which is enclosed in the caning which connects with the space suit cavity. In order to automatically maintain a given temperature in the space suit a thormorolay is mounted on the tank. The thermorelay Is designed in the form of an increased Card 1/2 UDG: 614.895.5 L 08580-67 ACC NRt AP6011274 6 Fig. 1. 1 - tank with liquid o)Wgon; 2 evaporation - valve for the liquid gas supply; regulator; 3 4 - sylphon bellows; 5 - casing of the sylphon - thormorolay; 7 - central porforated bollows; 6 tubo; 8 - perforated network; 9 - gas discharge 3 tube supply of gas connected with the valve by the sylphon bellows. This gas supply is filled with a liquid having a low boiling temperature, for example, Freon. To in- crease the space factor of the tank and insure takeoff of the gas with any position of the space suit, a central perforated tube and a perforated distributing network are mounted on the tank. A gas discharge tube is located inside the perforated tube. The upper rim of this discharge tube is positioned in such a way that any plane passing through the center of the discharge tube divides the tank into two parts equal in volume. G. - ARKILPATOL. 1957, 19/5 (13-19) Graphs 4 Tables 2 Case histories and 100 autopsy reports were analysed. The main diseases found in these patients were hypertonic disease in 57 cases and atherosclerosis in 43 cases. The large percentage of disagreement in clinical and post-mortem diag- noses In these nosological forms is explained first of all by objective difficulties of differential diagnosis of these diseases due to their frequent concurrence and mutual influence; in the second place by the fact that our knowledge of the clinical picture and pathomorphology of hypertonic disease and atherosclerosis is still insufficient. Thus, for example, in more than half of the cases of atherosclerosis which were studied, the level of the minimal arterial pressure was on the highest border of the normal or above it. Hypertrophy of the myocardium was sometimes observed in atherosclerosis without the presence of any clinical evidence of hyper~- tonia and could not be explained always. Orig Pub: Zavod. laboratoriya, 1956, 22, No 111, 1327-1330 Abstract: On the assumption that the contaminations consist of grease, CH, C;,_ and H.,~, spectrum is exitated in high-frequency discharge of type 9008 generator of RFT manufacture. of 2 PJhz frequency and 300 W power rating. The part is placed in branch of electrodeles6 glass tube on which are wound 10-15 turns of wire. During discharge air is evacuated and helium is Introduced to a pressure of 10 Mm 11g. The tube is sealed off and the helium is purified by freezing in liquid nitrogen. Thereafter the part is moved, by means of a mag- net, into the field of the coil, and spectra are photographed in Card 1/2 -56- 24M rKA3Z X b= WL0rZATION 5CV/1T00 z6v. valversitot Sattrialy X Tgosolumago soveshakum1ra Do spek-troakaptL, 1956. t.
