PERIODICAL: Gornyy zhurnnl, 1958, Nr 9, PP 76-77 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: The reconstruction of the concentration plants of the Krivoy
Rog Basin started in 1958. The plants of the ','ining Ad-
ministrations imeni 11lich and imeni R. Luksemburg will be
equipped with new modern machines, which will permit n con-
version to more complicated and improved methods of con-
centr-tion. Modern equipment (separators SFO-NTGRI for the
second stage of inagnetic coneentration) has already been in-
stalled in the plant of the ~Iine imeni Dzerzhinskiy. The
nuthor compares present results of concentration in the first
two plants with the expected results after reconstruction.

TITLE: Radiolumineacence of nonactivatod alknli-halide crystals /geport, Fourteenth
All-Union Conference an Luminescence (Crystal Phosphors) hold at Riga, 16-23 Sept.
19657
SOURCE: AN SSSR. Izvestiya. Seriya lizicheakaya, v. 30, no. 9, 1966, 1406-1408
TOPIC TAGS: luminescence, luminescence spoctrim, luminescent crystal., alkali halide
radioluminoscence, thermoluminescence, scintillation
ABSTRACT: The authors investigated the low-temperature rAioluminoseence of pure
lithium, sodium, potassium and cesium chloride, bromide aud iodide crystals. The
specimens contained no more than 10-51% of heavy metals. In view of the virtual
absence of heavy metals, the high absolute luminescence yields (up to IC%) and the
absence of photoluminescence under ultraviolet excitation, the authors concludo that
that 90 to 957. of the observed low-temperaturo luminescence 'was duo to the hont
cistal alone. Radioluminescence was excited at - 1500 C by 0 radiation from a Sr9o
9
Y source. In general thd radioluminescence yield decreased with increasing mass
of the cation and decreasing mass of the anion. The luminescence yields of the cesium I
yields of the cesium salts, however, were higher than those of the corresponding
ACC NR; AP 7004954
potassium salts, and the luminescence yields of the iodides did not vary greatly With]
I
the cation mass. To determine whether the luminescence of the pure phosphors was duel
to recombination at lattice defects or to some mechanism that remains effective in a I
perfect crystal, the authors compared the optical spectra of the thermostimulated
luminescence of previously irradiated crystal with the spectra of the low-temperature!
radioluninescence. It was found that both spectra of the chlorides and bromides con-1
tain the same bands, although with different relative intensities, but that the
shortest wavelength and strongest band In the radioluminoscence spectra of 1AI, NnIC,
K1, and CsI does not appear in the thermoluminoscence spectra at any temperature,
These crystals are known to be good low-temperature scintillators, and it is hypo-
thesized that their scintillation is due to the short wavelength luminescence that
cannot be ascribed to recombination at lattice defects. It is suggested that this
luminescence may be due to radiative annihilation of anionic excitons. The effects
of dopants are briefly discussed. The addition of KI to KBr was found to increase
the radioluminescence yield, the mixture luminescing stronger than either of the
pure components. The luminescence of NeCI.Nal single crystals increased by a factor
of 10 on cooling from + 25 to - 1500 C. This hybrid crystal had a narrow luminescenc6
band at 225 mju. The addition of thallium increased the strength of the 225 =p band
by a factor of 5. and the radioluminescence and thermoluminescence spectra were
identical; from this it is concluded that the T1+ and I- centers act together an a
single entity. Special experiments (not described) showed that at least one of the
thormoluminescence peaks is due to delocalization of electrons. orig. art. has:

ABSTRACT: In this paper a device is reconmended, with the aid of which an
optical length measuring device of the type 436-1" is used as a
dilatometer. According to the graph shovai, the device is vertically
arranged upon a stand. The sample is heated in a tube-shaped porce-
lain heater, and its dilation is transferred by means of a quartz
lever to the measuring part of the apparatus. A Pt-PtRh-thermo-
couple is used as an indicator of temperature; its cold Junctions
are kept at a constant temperature level. In the diagrem (coordi-
nates: dilation of the sample - temperature) the critical points
are determined by the curvature of the curve. In this way also the
coefficient of linear dilation of a sample of raterial can be de-
termined. There is 1 figure.

A13STRACT: The necessity to investigate such operating conditions of a rectifier
has arisen in connection with using a three-phase rectifier bridge circuit for
the compounding of synchronous generators where cases of asyrru-netrical
supply are possible. The analysis of circuit phenomena is conducted by the
method of decomposing the asymmetrical three-phase system of vo!.ages into
its positive -phase sequence and negative-phase sequence symmetrical compo-
nents. It is pointed out that the method of symmetrical components is
applicable to a nonlinear system if the nonlinearily conditions are superimposed
on the individual components of the input asymmetrical voltage; the nonlinearity

Analysis of the Operation of an Asymmetrically -Supplied Three-Phase Rectifying . . .
conditions in this case are represented by firing and extinguishing angles of
individual phases of the rectifier. The asymmetry factor k, which is equal to
the ratio of absolute values of positive -to -negative phase-sequence voltage
components, and.the angle J6;, between these components, are suggested as
characteristic of the asymmetrical system. The asymmetry factor k varies
from 0 under symmetrical conditions to I under maximum asymmetrical
conditions. With a specified value of k, all asymmetry cases are covered by
the angle Po., within the limits 0 - ZI: . Expressions are presented for the
3
firing angles of the valves in each phase depending on the asym metry factor k
and the angle q,., and also for the effect of these Darameters on rectified
voltage. As a result of analysis of the above relationg, it has been found that
in a three-phase bridge circuit the negative-phase sequence voltage has
practically no effect on the value of rectified voltage. Experimental verifica-
tion on a pilot model has corroborated the above theoretical results
