ABSTRACT: An Author Certificate has been issued for A control device for the suct on
valves of a reciprocating compressor and metering pump with discharge during the
compression stroke controlled by by-passing a part of the cylinder's charge through
a-,spring-stressed.suction valve.kept open while by-passing. The device uses in its
system an electromagnet acting on the valve and excitable during the closing
:'I:_of'~the distributor's working contacts. The working contacts are provided with a
1.1.,`iermanent magnet and are adjusted according to the last phase of by-pass to assur
e
a short7duration excitation of the electromagnet at the by-pass end. The spring
acts axially in the valve's opening direction and holds it open during the suction
'and by-pass operations. Orig. art. has: 1 figure.

TITLE-. Properties of isotopic shift in the spectrum of
samarium
PERIODICAL: Optika i sppittroskopiya, v.12, no.2, 1962, 171-177
TEXT: The nuthors report new experimental results on the
isotopic shift in the spectrum of samnrium. In distinction to
other workers they have used separated isotopes. A hollow
cathode discharge tube was employed as the source of light and
the working gas was argon at a pressitire of 0.5 mizi Hg. The high
resolution instrument was a Fabry-Perot interferometer with
multi-layer dielectric mirrors (reflection coefficient = 90"^4').
The samarium specimens (even-even isot'opes) were taken in ttie
form'of Smo.; Three isotope samples were prepared from them by
mixing. The amples were then converted into SmC1 and dissolved
in distilled water. The water solution was introdaced into the
hollow aluminium cathode and was evaporated therein. The
isotopic structure was examined with the j43A-2 (IZA-2) comparator
in 8-12 orders. In each case three spectrograms were obtained

with different separations between interferomoter plate.-i. A
numerical table is given summarizing the data for 59 lines of SmI.
For 56 of these the full isotopic structure is now reported for
the first time- 31 of the lines have a negative shift and the
remainder a positive one. it is shown that effects associated
with changes in the deformation parameter and the amplitude of
nuclear surface vibrations are responsible for the observed
departure from the equidistant disposition of the components of
the even-even, samarium isotopes. It is also reported that lines
with negativeand positive shifts are ohifted in soine,.-That
different ways (lines with positive shift have shifts which are on
the average greater than those of the negative shift lines). This
i5 ascribed to the dependence of the relative isotopic shift on
the properties of the atomic electrons. There are 2 figures and
7 tables.

ABSTRACT: Laser action is reported in CdS excited by a ruby laser at 77K. Since the
energy of photons of incident. radiation (A = 1.78 w) is smaller than the width of the
forbidden gap (2.5 ev), two-photon absorption was responsible for laser action. A
5 x 3 x 3 mm sample forming a Fabry-Perot cavity was excited by radiation from a 1-j
ruby laser (pulse duration 'u50 nsec). The emission spectrum from CdS at various
pump densities (see Fig. 1) is similar to that of electron-beam-pumped CdS. The
broadening of the oscillation line with bigber pump power was attributed to an in-
..Crease in the number of modes; however, a resolving power of I A did not make it pos--

PERIODICALs Zavodskaya Laboratoriyal 1957P Vol 23, Nr 6, PP 745 - 746
ABSTRACT: In order to determine thi stresses in transparent models the
standards and models are investigated simultaneously in the polari-
scope# and in the case of the coincidence of colors the amount of
stress is measured. In practice, the reciprocal dependence between
the radiation shift index of the polymethylmetacrylate (polari-
meter "PMP") and the wavelength (SENARNMON's compensator) was
measured. By means of a light filt 9r several narrow parts of the
spectrum are limited. Mica plates -T were introduced in SENIRMUON's
compensator for violet, green, and red parts of the spectrum
for the purpose of accurate measurement. Within the structural
boundaries the double radiation shift remains oonstant. By means
of the aforementioned mica plates which are wedge-shaped, and which
were introduced into the polarisoope, an uninterrupted scale
of interference colors was obtained, as the difference of radiation
is a direct function of the thickness of the wedges. The difference

PERIODICAL: Radio, 1959, Nr 3, pp 40 - 42, p 1 of centerfold,

ABSTRACT: Radio engineers of the Saratov Industrial-Economical
Rayon have designed a pocket-size radio receiver
"Syurpriz". Production of this receiver has already
started. It is a superheterodyne with seven P-14
transistors and printed circuits. The polystyrene
case is 150 x 80 x 32 mm, but does not have adequate
mechanical strength, especially at the loudspeaker
openings and at the tuning dial. The total weight
of the radio is 520 G. Power is provided by four
alcaline cadmium-nickel batteries of type KNP-0.42
with a capacity of 0.3 - 0.11 anD-h. The batteries

of a special rectifier consisting of two TELT-2
resistors and one N-1.1's2,17 diode. At- a nominal out-
put of 0.1 watt, 20-40 mil1iarips are required. The
receiver works on loInc, Mvl~s (~50 - 415 kc) and on
medium waves (520 - 160".-kc). 411 built-in ferrite
antenna, consisting of rod F-600, provides a
sensitivity of not lea~~ t,)an 10 mv/m for the long
wave range and 7 mv/p, fcr t1le rteditmi wave range.
There is also a jack for ar. e-xternal antenna. The
adjacent~-channel selectivity is 10 db. The receiver
has automatic gain control and an efficiency factor
of 34 %. The P-14 transistor of the converter is es-
pecially selected since the frequency to be generated
by it must not be lower than 2.1 me. Experience
showed that it is possible to find one transistor
which meets this requirement among seven P-14 transist-
ors. The two-stage IF amplifier works with a fre-

PERIODICAL: Tr. Gor1kovsk. politekhn, in-ta, 1958, Vol 14, Nr 5, pp 25 - 44
ABSTRACT: The method for suppressing pulse noises in the HF channel of
a radio receiver Is described. The general idea of the method
consists in the fact that during the occurence of the pulse noise
the receiver ia out off at a high frequency without a break in
the constant component. During the occurence of the noise no
signal or noise is admitted into the HF circuits of the receiver,
in which damped oscillations will proceed. Therefore, a trough
is always formed in the envelope curve of 'the output voltage, due
to occurring noise, with a depth, depending on its duration.
Circuit systems consisting of three block units are investigated:

a tuned filter; 2) the DON circuit differs from the RON in that. the first
filter consists of two narrow-band filters; 3) the ShIYJ circuit consists of
a wide-band block unit, a limiter and a narrow-band block unit. It is shown
that the investigated RON and DON circuits ensure a considerable gain in noise-
proof feature. The increase in noise-proof feature is hereby achieved by an
- of the receiver. The noise-proof
insignificantly more complex arrangement
gain of thp RON, DON and ShOU circuits is about the same, however, in the RON
and DON circuits this gain is achieved without increasing the pase-band width
of the filter, standing in front of the limiter, which is the case on the ShOIJ
circuit.

Twt The author considers a system in which the level of-limiting, at
small modulation depth of desired signal, can be.roduced without origination of'
non, linear distortions. A lower level of limiting of interferences makes it pos-
sible to decrease the magnitude.of dertuning of the first filter without-impair-
ing.the interference-resistance-ofthe system. In order to change the level of
signal liMiting,;a controlling voltage (U.) is fed to the limiter; this voltage
Is obtainod by means of a twofold detecting of an amplitude-modulated signal.
The notion ofpontrolling ring, proposed by M.S. Neyman, is used to estimate the
stability of the system. Unstable operation of the system can set in when'the
circuit of the controlling ring is ~cl:oBed. However, the system which is correct-

TEXT: The analysis of a performance of the system consisting of
series connected detuned filter, a threshold following limiter and
a tuned filter is given. The limiting level has to follow the en-
velope of maximum values of amplitude which varies in accordance
with the changes of modulation depth. The voltage required to con-
trol the threshold of limiting may be obtained from push-pull detec-
tion of the peak amplitude of the signal voltage. The purpose of
the system analyzed is the elimination of pulse interference in
radio reception. Its operation is described by a non-linear inte-

gro-differential equation, whose exact solution cannot, in its gen-
eral form, be obtained. The method used in the work of approximate
integration made it possible to analyze the problems of non-linear
distortions and of the stability of the system. It is shoim that
the threshold following limiter makes it possible to decrease the
detuning of the first filter without reducing the interference- V
killing properties of the system. A correctly adjusted circuit
does not go into oscillations and does not introduce non-linear dis-
L
tortions of the signal. The threshold following limiting is obtain-

TITLE: Protection of Machined Components by a Solution of
Sodium Nitrite (Konservatsiya detaley rastvorom nitrita
natriya) 31
PERIODICAL: Vestnik Mashinostroyeniya, 19599t.Nr _19 pp 69-71 (USSR)
ABSTRACD The Gorlkiy Automobile Factory has evolved a process for
protection of machined components from corrosion for
periods of at least one year by using a 25 to 30% solution
of sodium nitrite. The solution acts by deposition'of
sodium nitrite crystals onto the metal surface which
attract moisture from the air; this moisture forms a
passive film of solution which is renewed continuously
by oxidation of the film. Thorough preliminary degreasing
is essential: a wash first in a 1.5% caustic soda and
11% waterglass solution is followed by a second wash in
1 to 2% cavstic soda, followed by a final wash in a 1 to
2% solution of trisodium ghosphate. Time for each wash
is l+ minutes at 80 to 90 C, Small quantities of thesn
Card 1/3 solutions remaining on the treated parts are said to cause
no corrosive action. The parts are then dipped slowly

Protection of Machined Components by a Solution of Sodium Nitrite
into a 30% solution of sodium nitrite which is at a
temperature of 40 to 60OV-1 and held there for 2 to 3
minutes. To ensure safe protection for periods up to
2 or 3 years, the treated components should be wrapped
in kraft paper which has been impregnated with a 10%
solution of sodium nitrite. A semi-automatic line for
treatment of steel or cast iron parts is illustrated
diagrammatically. The treatment enables a considerable
saving in the cost of the greases formerly used for
protection and also enables expensive bitumenized paper
to be replaced by the cheaper kraft paper. The film is
rather weak and the parts require careful handling. The
6reatment cannot be used for non-ferrous metals. Extra
protection can be given by dipping the treated parts in
vaseline at 110 to 1200C. Before the treated comDonents

TOCT. After giving a description of the technological process of producing
perchlorovinyl resins, and of the main physico-ohemical properties of chloroben-
zene,, polyvinylohloride and perohlorovinyl resins,.the author comments on the
inflammability of the various raw materials and semi-finished products and empha-
sizes the possibility of the formation of explosive concentrations in the course
of the production process. He comments on the possible causes of this formation-.
of explosive concentrations and then enumerates the fire-prevention measures
that have to be striptly adhered to.
