ABSTRACT: The authors describe experiments conducted by the Constrnc-
tional Section of the Gdansk Polytechnical Institute (Po-
land)in collaboration with the Maritime Institute, to de-
termine the stress of a wooden pile driven into the soil,
The stress indicators usually used for testing the metal-
lic constructions were used in this experiment. The ex-
periment is described in detail. The results of the stress,
caused by different loads on the top of the pile, and re-
gistered on the indicators, were transcribed into graph
form (fig. 5) and compared with results obtained by theo-
retical calculation according to the method of D.V. Angell-
skiy. The comparison showed the similarity of results. The

The behaviour of pre-invasive cancer was observed in 17 pregnant women. JA
all patients histopathological and cytological examinations were systematically
carried out during pregnancy and after delivery. It was found that the pre-invasive
cancer diagnosed during pregnancy does not disappear after parturition. but in no
case was it established that the pire-invasive cancer may change into an invasive
one. The patients were observed for 3 months after dellvery-This is a prelirnkn-
ary report. But. already basing on these observations, the author is of the opinion
that in cases of pre-invasive cervical cancer In a pregnant woman. the patient
should be controlled every tnonth, the pregnancy allowed to proceed to term and
after delivery again sections should be taken and the patient treated according to
--the results found. In no case was the disappearance of the newgrowth observed.
therefore pre-invasive cancer in the pregnant iiorrian is an Irreversible lesion.

Electroconization was perrormed in t66 patients with cytoI491 and histological
diagnosis of pre-invasive cancer and also in 84 where pre-invasive cancer was sus-
pected histologically. The Follow-ug of i tos Yr. permits the conclusion that clectro-
surgical removal of the I&ion is &u cient for cum. The following principles however
must be observed - Before operation the histological diagnosis must be based on at
least 4 biopsies to exclude invasion. The specimen after the conization must be histo-
logically examined in serial sections to confirm the final diagnosis. The patients must
be regularly followed up. Electroconization does not exclude the possibility of
pregnancy and may be u3id in the treatment of preinvasive cancer in young women.

were extensive infiltrations by myeloblasts in the sciatic nerves with low tendon
reflexes and pains in the legs which hitherto were attributed to affections of the

Abstract Determination of approximate values of overall mass-
transfer coefficient kpj, and also of partial mass-trans-
fer coefficients k in gas film, and k in liquid film,
in process of suli& dioxide absorptionc in solution of
basic aluminum sulfate. It was found that the rate of
absorption depends on values of both partial coeffi-
cients. It follows therefrom that resistances Of (-A-
seous and liquid films are quantities of same order.
