This method incorporates the sectimil distribution system but eliminates the special central distributors and the additional level control system. A diagram of the well system is shown in the figure. 4 $ 1/2 UDC: 631.589.2 -L 23520-66 ACC NR, AP6008726 Pump I is turned on according to a preset program or by pressing a button on the con- trol panel and the solution is fed to the first distributor well 4. When the solu- tion in section 2 reaches a given level, float valve 5 stops the flow Into this sec- tion. This raises the level in the first distributor well and the solution flows through a divider into the second distributor well. When the solution in the second tray reaches a given level, it flows into the third well, etc. As the solution fills each subsequent tray, it simultaneously overflows into the reservoir through drain unit 3. The pump is switched off when the last tray is filled and the liquid fel't-1- lization cycle is completed. The solution may be drained off by a siphon system, float valves, etc. The new method combines the operations of distribution and level control. A description Is given of the BGT-600 installation designed for carrying out this nutrient distribution method. The operation of the automatic control unit in this instal.lation is discussed and a schematic diagram of the automatic control unit is given. orig. art. has: 6 figures.* SUB CODE: 02,13/ SUBM DATE: 00/ ORIG REF: 000/ OTH REN 000 2/2 KILLEat N.B. TITLE: Vinyl etherep their polymers and copoly$Ws for synthetic alcohols of the 5hebenskiy Combine of Synthetic Aliphatic Acids and Alcohols PERIODICAL: Zhurnal priklkdnoy khimiit v. 339 no. 12# 1960, 2801 - 2802 TEXT: In view of the large quantity of alcohols protuced at the Shebekinskiy Kombinat (Shebensk-4y Combine) in the synthesis of fatty acids from petroleum paraifin the authors decided to test the possibility of using theae alcohols as material for preparing vinyl alcohois~ their polymers and copolymers. The.~-niethod of A.Ye" Favorskly et al (Ref. 4: Zh. obshch. khimii, 13, 1, 1943) was em- ployed in the vinylization process, when three varieties of vinyl ether were obtained with the following boiling points and molecu- lar weights: 165 - 2100, 172.0; 211 - 2440, 224.9; 247 - 2760y 250.6o These fractions are readily polymerized with a FeCl 3 cata- Card 112 S/060/60/033/012/024/024 Vinyl etherep their polymers D209/D305 lyst and are additionally copolymerized with vinyl-butyl, vinyl- amyl and vinyl-furfuryl ethers. The authors also copolymerized vin- yl ethers of the fraction boiling at 165 .- 2100 with styrol in sealed glass ampoules at 600 for 32 hours. The catalyst consisted of benzoyl peroxidep the molecular ratios of vinyl ether to styral being 1 : lo 1 : 3y 1 : 7t 3 : lf 1 : 0, and 0 : 1, The beat re- sults, yielding a good plastic copolymer, were obtained with a mol cular ratio of 1 : 7. Thus, the authors conclude that muc'h of the V alcohol at the Shebenskiy Combine may be converted into vinyl ethers which in turn are easily polymerized and copolymerized with styrol to provide material suitable for the preparation of plastics. The authors explain the synthesis process of vinyl fur- furol ether and point out that the composition of vinyl ether in respect of acetaldehyde was found by the hydrolytic oxime formation method of M.F. Shostakovskiy (Ref 1: Prostyye vinilovyye efiry, (Simple Vinyl Ethers), Izd, AN SSSR, 1952), and found to be 98.68, 98.28% aldehyde. Vinylfurfurol ether polymerizes to a viscous 'Liquid in the presence of iron chloride. The initial materials for the synthesis 9f acetaldeh e acetal were: vinyl ethyl ether (b-pt. 39-5009 nD20 = 1.377, W = 0.7532), vinyl-n-buthyl ether 1b.pt 93.50C, 20 = 1.4026, d28 k y1b 4 = 1.7791) and furfurol alcohol. The synthesis was done by the method of Favorskiy-Shostakovatiy (Ref 1,- Op. cit). During synthesis the cooling continued in order to cut down the side reaction and possible decomposition of aceta- Idehyde and corresponding alcohols (Ref 2-. M.F. Shostakcvskiy and Card 2/4 &MEMN S/079/61/031/006/003/005 D223/D305 Synthesis of vinylfurfurol ether, ethylfurfurol-and-n-buthylfurfuraI acetaldehyde acetals N.A. Gershteyn, ZhoKh, 16, 937, 1946). When the reaction ended the temperature was brought to room temperature, potash added to neutralize the acid and then distilled in vacu.--). The final puri- fiVation was done with metallic sodium and re-distillation in vacuo. Yield 24.2 grams (51-99%). The hydrolytic oxime formation yielded 97.349 98.24% of aldehyde. N-buthylfurfurol-acetaldehyde was synthetized using 24.5 gr. of furfurol alcohol and 25-05 gr. of vinyl-n-buthyl ether mixed in a flask fitted with a thermometer, After addition of a catalyst - a drop of concentrated hydrochloric acid - the temperature rose to 930C. When the reaction ended the excess acid was neutralized with fresh potash and distilled in vacuo. Purther purification was done with metallic sodium and re- distillation in vacuo. The yield of acetal was 29.66 gr. (59 84%). The hydrolytic oxime formation gave 97.34, 98-72% of aldehyde: The- acetal obtained was a colorless liquid with a pleasant fruity odor,, of good solubility in ether, alcohol and benzene. The paper contains a number of erroneous statements. 1. The author considers the instrument described to be "new" and suggests its installation "for measuring the wind velocity at the meteorological stations of the USSR". Actually, the "wind meter" recommended by the author is nothing but the well-known simple anemometer of WUd's hinged-vane type (see B. S. E., Vol 2, -p 440). 2. The use of the impulsometer instead of a Venturi device for the determination of flow velocity in a conduit cannot be acknowledged as rational since the velocities in the cross section of a pipe conduit are not uniform Card 1/2 and, therefore, the readings even of an "absolutely accurate" -0 The Impulsometer and Its Operation 501~/124 -57-3-3312 impulsometer are not meaningful. 3. The appl`cation of the theory of the abso- lutely inelastic impact referred to in the article under review cannot be recom- mended for the calibration of 'the impulsometer scale, snce in the case of a flow past a plate this theory would be quite inaccurate. Abstract: [English article] The influence of environmental temperature changes on changes in the brown adipose tissue during starvation was investigated in newborn rabbits. he changes observed are described. The conclusion was reached that brown adipose tissue does not seen to respond in the same manner as,the white one to stimuli produced by starvation. Brown fat Is mobilized in response to cold but not during starvation in a thermoneutral environment, whereas white fat apparently serves as a general metabolic reserve and is used, during starvation, both in the absence and presence of increased heat production in response to cold. 1 Hungarian, 9 Western references.
