ABSTRACT: In Newtonian theory the gravitational field may be
described in terms of a suitably chosen coordinate system by means
of the coefficients of the line element of three-dimensional Euclidew
I apace. Therefore, the relativistic theory of gravitation can be
directly compared with the Newtonian theory. A limiting process
in which the gravitational fields of the general theory of relati-
vity tend toward the corresponding fields of Newtonian theory is
describe'd. A correspondence of quantLtLes of the general theory
of relativity wLth quantities of Nowtonian, theory is established*

electrodynamice in three-dimensional formulation in the general theory
of relativity. The paper consists of three parts. In the first part
the author considers the generalized Inertial system which is given by
the interval d82_ 02dt2 _ - d,k.

In order to obtain the equations of mechanics (inclusively hydro-
dynamics) and of electrodynamics in the variable inertion field, at
first there are set up classical equations andthen there are obtained
"semirelativiBtle" equations (with explicitly occurring- time) with the
aid of the covariant transition. In the second part the equations of
the inertion field are investigated on the basis of Einstein's

equationag and a successive approximation method is proposed for their
solution (a parameter is introduced which is set eqaal to one at the
end of the calculations). The question of convergence is riot considered.
Also boundary conditions are not considered. The question on the
equations for the spatial metric of the inertial system and their
integTation by successive approximations is separately considered.
In the third part which is in Intimate connection with the investiga-
tions of (Kirkwood R.L., Phys.Rev.91953, 22; 1954, 2~), the equations
of electrodynamics and of the inertion field are investigated in the
non-inertial coordinate systems of the three-dimensional Euclidean
space. Here especially the Maxwell-Lorenz equations are obtained in a
moving coordinate system. They read8

PERIODICAL: Izvestiya vysshikh uchebnykh zavedeniy
Elektromekhanika, 1960, Nr 59 PP 130-133 ~USSR.)
ABSTRACT: The usual objection to static phase conversion is poor
efficiency. The arrangement described has an overall
efficiency, including the motor load, of 72-721,6 at a
power output of 27OW. One phase of the load (11 3-phase
motor operating as a 2-phase motor) is connectod directly
to the supply. The other phase is fed via an autotrans-
former and transformer-coupled capacitor as in Fig 1.
The open-circuit and loaded vector diagrams are Figs 2
and 3 respectively. Fig 7 is an experimental -2esult
where output power is measured as a function of capacitance.
There are 7 figures and 4 Soviet references.

"Study of the Sensitivity to Antibiotics of Shigella Strains
Isolated in 1960-1964.11
Bucharest, Microbiologia, Parazitologia, Epidemiologia, Vol 11,
No 6, Nov-Dec 66, pp 537-542.
Abstract: As a result of antibiograms performed on all strains
of Shigella isolated in their laboratories between 1960 and
1964, the authors found that all the strains (flexneri, sonnei,
schmitzi) showed a rapid increase in their resistance to chlor-
amphenicol. They also noted a large increase in multiple resis-
tance, ie. resistance not only to the antibiotic used in treatment
but also to the other ones tested; the only exception was neo-
mycin, resistance to which is 4ppearing much more slowly. In
regard to cases of bacteriologically confirmed cases of bacil-
lary dysentery, the odds of encountering resistani bacteria
were 1:1 for streptomycin, 1:2 for chloramphenicol and 1:3 for
for tetracycline. .

"Role of the Pituitary and Adrenals in the Changes in Leukocyte Count Caused
by Endotoxin."
Budapest, Kiserletes Orvostudoman , Vol XVIII, No 4, Aug 66, pages 347-352.
Abstract: [Authors' Hungarian summary] Small doses of Salmonella typhi
endotoxin do not cause early granulocy*tosis In hypophysectomized and adrenal-
ectomized rabbits. It can be demonstrated by the administration of ACTH and
adrenalin that early granulocytosis can be explained by the activation of
the adrenalin-pituitary-adrenocortical system. On the other hand, the late
granulocytosis which can be evoked by larger doses is caused by humoral fac-
tors the production of which proceeds without the pituitary and the adrenals.
