ABSTRACT: The new adhesive MUL-11"'is prepared by mixing and heating to 190-2000C
50,10 polyamide 54 with 18-3n% modified alkyd, 4-8% plasticizer K?T and 27-18% novolac
type phenol-formaldehyde resin. The alkyd is previously modified by heating, with
removal of water, to an acid number not over 30 and a melting point not below 600,
,Such compositions containing no more than 24% alkyd and 6% plasticizer are suitable
for maldng adhesive coated straqds which can be coiled without sticking. The adhesive.
.coated threads of 1*0-1*2 x 10'~ m diameter were made by passing cotton thread throu,~i

to keep the threads from sticking during storage. A 5% solution of stearic acid Jn
mixed solvent (5 parts by weight mineral oil, 95 kerosene) prevented sticking for two
days; coating with mineral oil alone also helped somewhat. Other precautions in
imaking the adhesive-coated strands: the resin composition should not be overheated
during preparation; sufficient time for cooling the adhesive on the thread is needcd~
the take-up spool should be nt' less than 2 meters from the die; optimum rate is 20-25

ABSTRACT: The regeneration of thn ovary in mammals has been
Investigated many times. (Referen,,.es 1, 6, 7, 9 - 11)-
Many authors ure still of opinion that a lesion does not
'lake plaoe but that only a hypertrophy occurs since the
generative elements in the ovary become mature. The maln
task of thie investigation was the study of that process tit
difforent physiological state of the organ',-,~,-'- aa well an
the eearching for conditions favouring the procass. By the
mentioned ligation a reparative regeneration wait caused
(referen.~e 3). As a consequence almost all spee'-fic
elements degenerated, that means the organ was testroyed.

liquidated. In all caaes the right ovary was removedo the
ligation at the mentioned bundle of the left ovf..ry was
maintained until the end of the experiment (fig-Lire 1).
Simultaneously with the morphological investigations the
regeneration of the function of the ovary was olserved,
this Was P08131bla by means of vaginal smears. The
histological 'Anvest1gation chowed far-roaching destructive
changes in all tissues of the ovary after the mentioned
operationg which reached their climax after 48 hours
(figure 1 A), The result of the experiment can b.) of 3

fat degeneration and a) a regeneration. In.single animals
quite varying pictures were observed~ No legalities of
the pzooess cf regeneration could be derivGd bast-d upon tho
ovaries which were fixed at different periods. The author
has therefore applied the morphological analysis ~y
comparing the morphological changes of the regeneration of
the physiological function of the ovary. One of the main
aritexia of the latter whic:i can be sufficiently registered,

observations permit to draw the conclusion the-, a certain
relation exists between the process of regeneration of the
ovary and Its function. The data obtained give informations
aa to the formation of new sax cells in grown up rats in
the courso of the reparative regeneration of the ovary. The
ovary is therefore no organ with a stricfly linited reserve
cf sex elements. They may be exhausted but also increase in
number. The author was not able to observe in detail the
process jf the formation of oocytes from the colls which
maintain -their viability after the operatien. She presumes,
however, that they fcrme d out of cells of thv. opithelial
~~ordsq which had formed of the epithel of the destroyed
follicle (figure 3). A mechanical stimulation of the vagina
led to a regeneration of the ovary in the case of 20
ariLmals Out of 22)9 which would not ha-~-e been the :a9a

Nickel, used in the investigation described in the present paper,.
contained 0.05% C and traces of Co, Fe, Cull Si and some other
elements. The test pileces (11 mm long, 7 mm. in diameter) were
deformed in compression at the strain-rates of 2, 20 and 2400%,/ h
at 8 different temperatures in the 20 to 350"C range, the stress/
strain diagrams being obtained .,rith the aid of an automatic
recorder. These curves were used to construct the true
stress/deforination (ale) diagrams, The resistance to deformation
at room temperature was hardly affected by the rate o;.' strain.
When, however, the test temperature was raised to 70%, anomalo,as

effects were observed in that, starting from c _- 12%, th,~
resistance to deformation decreased with increasinf, rate of strain,
At high temperatures, the anomalous effect became evident at
smaller c and its magnitude increased, reaching a maxiantm at
about 200%. At temperatures above approximately 32VC, the
effect of increasing the rate of strain was normal, i,e, it brought
about an increase in the resistance to deformation, The results
obtained indicated that strain-ageing takes place in nickel
deformed at temperatures between 70 and 3001C. It was postulated
that this process is associated with the formation and destruction
of Cottrell atmospheres, formed most probably by the carbon atoms,

'The apparatua for extracorporeal circulation designed at the Scientific Research
Institute of Enperimental Surgical Equipment meets all clinical requirements. Six
patients with tetralogy of Fallot have been operated upon with the aid of the ahove
apparatus. -Direct vision Infundibular resection of the fiDrowi ring responsIbIc for
pulmonary stenotsis was performed. Ini.ratracheal ether anatsthesia was use(,. A
curare-like tigent, 'diplacin', was giv-,,n during surgery. Prior to operation 5 pa-
tients were ojoled to 32-30*C. Donor blood was obtained on the day of the oper-
ation and stabilized with h-iparin. During surgery oxyhacniograms, ECG, arterial
pressure, pulse rate and blood pit were registered. The patient wns connected to
the apparatue by means of catheters inserted into the main vessels. The arterial
catheter waiii inserted into the aortic arch through the subulavian artery in 3 cases
and through the femoral artery in Coe remaining 3. During cardiopulmonary, by-
pass arterial pressure dropped 'o 40-11 mm. 11g; oxygen saturation ef arterial
blood amounted to J2-98%: ECGis revenled changes mainly due to dirL,t inanipul-
ations on the right ventricle and inside the chamber. Itepnrin was neutralized by
prolamine solphate. Postoperatively, prothrombin Index as well an blood coagul-
ation were atrictly followed. In one case. these values did not return to normal
after operation. This patient died front haernorrhage which could not be controlled.
Two other ptitients died from brain oellema and the 4th from atelectasis. Two pa-
tients survived the operation and are considered to be irnr oved. (XVIII, 6, 9)

defects were praduced with the total cardiac inflow and outflow occluded under
hypothermia (29-30T.). To prevent heart complications the following prophylac-
tic steps were taken: (1) anaepthesia of receptors of thoracic cavity -with 0.257.6 novo-
caine solution, (2) Lv. Injection of 8-12 ril. of 11,16 potassium chloride. (3) anaes-
thesis or the Keith- Flack bundle with 1% novocalne solution according to Ribert-
Schumacher, and (4) intense hype rventilaCon of lungs. Despite the above measu-es,
cardiac arrest occurred in 13 out of 22 experiments. Methods of cardiac resusci-
tation varled widi the type of cardiac arrest. Three types of cardiac arrest are
recognized: (1) cardiac arrest in diastole (heart paralysis); (2) ventricular fibr%Ua-
tion: (a) in high cardiac muscle tone, (b) in cardiac muscle atony; (3) vagal car-
diac arrest. In cardiac muscle atony heart massage, adrenaline injected into coron-
ary circulation &nd artificial respiration oire supposed to restore the tone. Once
cardiac muacle %,one has been restored, defibrillation should be performed In vagal
cardiac arrest. heart massage and injecti(tn of I ml. of 0.176 atropine are necessary
to restore heavt PLctivtty. In all cases of cardiac arrest the authors succeeded in
restoring card-10m activity. Open repair of atrial septal defect and valvulotorny for
vQ1vular pulmonary atenosis with circulafory arrest under hypothermia became
clinically poaal.ble on the basis of constdcrable laboratory experience.
