radiative defects appearing due to irradiation with fast neutrons.
Specimens le'S x 3 x 10 mm with a resistivity of 80 ohm-cm (alloyed with
b.oron) and a dislocation density of 104 cm-2 with oxygen concentrations
of 1018 cm-3 and 1016,cm-3 were polish@d and etched. Thespecimens were
irradiated with fast neutrons In a reactor at 60C. The thermal neutrons
were screened with a-cadmium filter, Gamma-rays accounted for four
percent of the radiation. All specimens were Irradiated with a dose of
6.6 x 1018 n1cm2 under similar conditions. The specific resistance of
the first type of specimens (oxygen concentration,, 1.0-10 cm-3) increased

up to 1.3 x 106 ohm-cm; that of specimens of the second type (oxygen
concentration, 1016 em"3) increased up to 106 ohm-cm. The hole mobility
decreased almost equally for both types of specimens, i.e., fro= 220 to
20 Cm2/8eCG Measurements of the Hall effect for both types of spect-
mens showed that Irradiation with fast neutrons sharply decreased the
concentration of 'holes (by almost two orders) and lead to the appear-
ance of radiative defects of the donor impurity type vhich-created now

The defects, which were stable up to-300C, annealed at 400C. The
EV + 0.29 ev level, with a small concentration (2,74 x 1013 cm-3)
appeared at this point. The effectiveness of the defect formation
caused by fast neutrons is 10-Y,cm-1, Since the specimens had a similar
small density of dislocatLonal1l'the assumption can be made that the given
energy levels do not belong to defects localized on the dislocations.

TITLE: The TurbulenfDiffusion In Tubes
PERIODICAL: Inzhenerno-fizioheskiy zhurnalg 19609 Vol- M0.39PP-117-122
TEXT: The differential equation (1) descAbes the concentration distribu-
tion of a component in the mixture of two liquids,in a tube. This differen-
tial equation has the form (2) in a system of coordinates moved with the
flow..ak/at - Wk/az2, D is the coefficient of the turbulent diffusion.
From a probability investigation concerning the presence of the particle
at a certain inBtant of time in a certain part of the tube, formula (11)
D1v ARO 2/3 is derivedv-Here,-@ is the coefficient of kinematic viscosity,
A - a to be determined experimentally constantg and Re the Reynolds number.
Generally, (12) holds: D/v - f(Re). From the solution of equation (1)
formula (17) is derived, for the turbulent diffusion coefficient. For the
determination of the dependence of D/V on the Reynolds number according
to formula (12), experiments were made by Kornilovg Yrolov, Nechvall, and
others at the Laboratoriya truboprovodnogo transporta Bashkirskogo nauchno-
-,issledovatellskogo instituta po pererabotke nefti (Laboratory for Pipe-.
lines of the Bashkiriya,Soientifio Fisearch Institute for the Refining
of Petroleum). In the experimental plant they had a tube-length of 44.6 m

with a diameter of 51 mm available. The measured values for-a velocity
of' 3094 cm/sec, a v - 0.0122 stokes, and a Reynolds number of
Re - 12,500 are given in Table 1. By means of the method of the least,
squares, formula (18) is given for the relation D/i; - f(Re). In the
diagram in Fif. I the measured values are compared with the curve Cal-
culated from 18)q which shows the good practical use of formula (16).
The formulas derived here and those by Taylor (Ret. 2), Fowler and
Brown (Ref. 9) as well as that by V. A. Win are compared with reference
to the data of the pipeline Ufa-Chelyabinsk (375 km). Table 2 gives a
summary of the results obtainedvand it is shown that the formulas
derived are, on the.whole, the better ones. There are 1 figure2 2 tables,
and 10 references: 8 Soviet and 2 English.
