TLXTs The formation of absorption center3 in crystals"Of Ag halides under
the effect of light at different stages of photolysis -from a latent
image to visible blackening - is examined. Yine-grain AgCl, AgBr and A0Z
emuluions were used both as dry layers and as a gel 4 mm thick. It is
concluded that in the first stages of photolysis the fine atruct
ure
centers play the leadi.,g role in forming a latent image. The appearanci'?7,-
of diffused bands in the absorption spectrum of the emulsions at later
stages of photolysis is evidence for the formation of centers intermediate
in size between atomic and large colloidal particles, but not in accord
ance with Mie's theory. At the late stages of photolysis sharply defin;d

TITLE: The influence of optical density and of a luminous flux incident bn
a photocell upon the spectral dependence of the absorption curve of
silver halides
PERIODICAL: Zhurnal nauchnoy i prikladnoy fotografli i kinematografii, v. 8,

TEXTs The influence exerted by the optical density of the object under
consideration and by the load of the photometer on a photocell was studied from-
measurements of I - 11 - 12, where 11 is the intensity of the light passing
through the reference part of the emulsion, and 12 is the intensity of the light
passing through the part under examination. The experimental arrwi6iment includ-
ed a Zeiss monochromator and a Hartmann-Braun galvanometer. The preparations
used for the purpose were fine-grained silver chloride emulsions*. Conclusionsi
ATAn as a function of the galvanometer deflection n shows a horizontal sec-
tion (maximum value), for which the contrast is a maximum, too. Al/.&D is a

linear function of the optical density AD up to AD - 0.045, but above this
value linearity is disturbed. Maximum sensitivity of the photocell to small va-
riations in the luminous flux is reached witbin the linear section. Under ror-
mal pressures (linear section of I versus n) the absorption curves of the silv6r
chloride emulsions exhibited a normal shape with fine struoture. Application of
higher pressures does not affect the general coorse of the absorption curve, but
its fine structure vanishes. There, are 6 figures.

ABSTRACT- The article describes the construction of coaxJa' cables
used in the USSR for interurban communication lines. The
basic electrical characteristics of coaxial pairs and the
results of measurements carried out in the construction of
cable lines are given. The article offers recommendations
concerning the basic electrical characteristics of the
coaxial pairs of 2.6/9-4 mm, which were accepted by the
16th Plenary Session of.the IIMKKTT" in December 1956. These
recommendations deal with the electric strength of insulation
of coaxial pairs, the uniformity of the wave resistance,
the safeguard level at the far end of them and fae attenu-
ation. The USSR industry manufactures cables with two or

TEXT: The experiments were made with a propane bubblo chamber (dimensions,
370 by 140 by loo mm3) exposed to the pion beam of the synchrocyclotron
of the OlYaI. 19,576 n- mesons, identified from the'characteriatic star
at the end of their path, were selected to measure the angle of singly
scattered n- mesons projected onto the plane of the film. 81 x- meson
decay events were registered between 15 and 1800. The sign of the
potential of the system pion - carbon nucleus can be determined directly
from the difference between th~ angular distributions of x+ and x- 'mesons.
