TOPIC TACS: neutron, neutron detector, counting chamber. Ionization chamber,
proportional counter, exponential experiment
ABSTRACT: The author notes that when conducting experiments In exponential do.
vices with a counter or chamber. the Mean rate of neutron counting (that Is, the
mean number of Instrument readIngs par unit time) Is adjusted. The man rate of
i counting Is a statistical value and Is specifically determined In each particular
measurement by the laws of probability. It Is always advisable to set up the ex-
perlment so that with given "full tied', expended on the measurements. the most
accurate result Is echlevedl that Iso the smallest risletivo error in the constant
to be measured oro If a proscribed relative error Is to be obtained, the minimum

is studied under the assumption that the phase velocity of the slow wave
and from the-phaso velocity
differs essentially from that of the fast One
atom. The corresponding subsystem can

again be divided into two further subsystems, the solutions of which
represent slow waves having constant amplitudes and undisturbed phase
velocities wd four typea of fast waves having cons.tant rates of propaga-
tion. AssurAng simplified boundary conditions, a formula for the
amplification factor of the field strength is given. Conclusion: The
amplification.factor depends largely on the modulation depth of the boas

TEIT: - The method of zonal melting was applied to preparation orpure 81 and
homogeneous alloys Bi-Sn and BI-Pb. A cylindrical rod, 10-15 an long, placed In a
glass emptied vessel, was passed through the spiral Nichrome electric furnace.
The control on distribution of impurities was brought about by measuring Hall
constant or electric resistances. After the 16-fold melting, alaost the half of
the ingot showed the value of Hall constant corresponding to.speatrally pure BI.
Homogeneous alloys of SI with Sn and Pb were obtained by passing the melted zone
through the ingot in direct and reverse directions.
