ABSTRACT: n1yushin, A.A.,(Plasticiiyj 194a) investigated the
possibility of materialising in every point of an elastic-
plastic body a proportional change of the tonsors cf,~ths,
strosses ais and of the deformation 6 - The importance

of his theorem consists of establishment of the conditions
for which inside a body the laws of the simple theory-of ,
plasticity are valid*-namely.-the theo.FT of suall. elastic-
plastic deformations, Theauthor of this Paper considers
that, this condition does not have to be fulfilled at every
Point of the body* As-a result of his investigationsIs
arrives at the conclusion that, contrary to the frequently

involve a P M ortional increase in deformation, which-occurs

ABSTRACTs Although the theory of small elastic-plastic deformations
is probably incorrect in the case of complicated loading
conditions, application of this theory to the problem of
stability of plates yields results which are in better
agreement with experimental data than application of the
theory of flow. In this paper the problem of stability of
plates in the plastic range is studied on the basis of the
differential-non-linear law of plasticity derived by the
author in another paper (Prikl.Mat. i Makh., Vol.21, 195?
No.4). As the equilibrium stability criterion, a criterion
is applied which represents a generalisation of the static
criterion, usually applied in investigating the stability of
elastic systems. On the basis of this criterion it is, for
instance, possible to determine that an elastic-plastio rod
1/4 cannot be stable after the load has reached the tangential-
modulus value. It is assumed that for given loading

parameters the equilibrium of the elastfc-pl at c structure
is unstable it after cessation of the effect Of even a
single external cause there is in the system at least one
point and one direction in which there is no reduction of
the non-zero effects of the action of external forces.
Whilat in the case of determining the instability of the
equilibrium of elastic structures it is enough to find
whether -the residual state differs from the initial one,
this is -not enough in the case of elastic-plastic structures.
In the latter -case it is also necessary to establish that
the difference in the displacements in the residual state,
compared with -the initial state, even In a single point and
in one direction, can be the same as iamediately after
removing the causes Of the disturbance, i.e. it is necessary
to establish whether equalisation of the intermediate state
at the given loading parameter can proceed even in a single
point In only some directions. It follows from this formula-
tion of the static criterion 'th at instability of the
structure as a whole will occur even if such instability
2/4 manifesto itself in a, single point only. To simplify
matters, the critical forces are determined from-the condition

ABKRAOTt An approximate method is given of solving certain
problems of bonding of plates which is based on preliminary
knowledge of lines of equal see (the line of the sections
of the beat surface of the plate in a plane parallel to
the non-bent plate)$ it was found that at least for the
problem under consideration no difficulty occurs in
satisfying the boundary conditions, The method permits
determining the point of the contour in which the most
dangerous bending moment occurs,

As it is well-knowng various experimentally determined appear-
anoss In plastio-deformations of metals cannot be described
by the existing phenomenological plasticity theories* To such
phenomena there belong #*get the sharp break of the deformation
trajectories for dilatation and rotation of thin-walled tubes;
the variation of the plastic deformation in the *our@* of
stresses for which the second Invariant of the stress deviator
remains constant stc6 With the aid of three hypotheses the
author obtains In a special case a relation which connects
the stresses and deformations and which qualitatively de-
scribes the appearances mentioned abovee

modulus of shear of the plastia state is different from the
