TITLE: Manifestation of mulacule symmetry in the spectrum of a.. crystal SOURCEs Optika i spektroskopiya, v. 17, no. 2, 1964, 213-21 TOPIC TAGSt benzene, deuterated compound, crystal symmetry, mole- cular spectrum, absorption spectrm, spectrum analysis ABSTRAM It is shown that the spectra of molecular crysta*,* can f be interpreted on the basis of the singularities of the i,yivnetry of the molecule in the crystal. The effectiveness of the wit*-od is demonstrated by using the spectra of crystalline benzen,! tA mono- deuterobenzone an examples. it is claimed that this opirrach elim- inates many of the difficulties in the interpretation of the sinqu- larities in the absorption spectra of such molecules, Different Cofld 1/3 ACCUSION NRj AP4043008 approximate inodel representations of the molecule symmetry must be used to explain different singularities of the spectrum. The ap- pearance of absorption in the region of the supplementary series is I-,! related with the appearance of several fundamental oscillations that Are forbidden in a molecule with high symmetry. Sinco this interpretation Is not unique# it needs to be verified, one of the methods being a comparative analysis of the spectra of crystalline* pairs such as benzene and deut* Is robenzene. Comparison of the sbsorp-'~ tion spectra of the vapors of these two substances shows that subz stitution of deuterium for hydrogen barely changes the symmetry of the molecule in the crystal# However, comparison of the spectra of the two substances in the region of the supplementary sorLea shwe that each has spectral bands missing from the other. These bands are interpreted and reasons for their occurrence are suggested* "The author is grateful to V. L. Broude for guidance and to Ya. r. The main closed loop is assumed to be already determined.=4 the parmeters of its coa- ponents evaluated analytically. The method is presented in two parts: in the first part the error coefficients are found forthe case of non-random, inputs when the system error may be ropresented as the s= of the command and disturbance errors. In the second the error coefficients are evaluated for stationary random M np ts by evaluation of the r,m,s. error from the spectiral, distribu- tion of the input. There are 3 figures. Izvestlys. Takhnichaskaya kiberneuka, no. 6, 1966, 52-56 TOPIC TAGS: automatic control system, system reliability, automatic control design. powameter AMTRACT: Normally certain technical conditions of the design and construction of automatic; control systems (ACS) are contradictory$ a. g. accuracy versus reliability, cost veftU com- plexity, etc. Hence at the very outset a compromise solution must be "ht such is, with- out being rigorously optimal with respect to some conditions, will assure designing a $yet= L with acceptable effectiveness over the entire range of conditions. Here effoctiveness may be i construed as the probability that the conAructed ACS will "tidy specified technical condt- tions and quality criterions under given operating conditions througbout the required period of Cwd 1/2 ACC AP7002236 time. In this connection, the authors propose a method of constructing the region of portnts- sible values of the variable parameters of ACS elements, as based on the criterion of effect- iveness. Thus If the state of ACS at every time Instant may be ropresentod by a n-variate -.ector whose components are the parameters of ACS, then the satisfaction of the effectiveness criterion requires that this vector remain within the conflnos of a specified region, with failure to adhere to these confines being regarded as an unfavorable event. it Is shown that the magnitude of the effectiveness criterion is determined by Integration over a W-no region, whose results characterize the sistern's ability to servo during a specified in erval of time, and by integration over the region of the system's parameters, whose results determine the system's ability to assure a specified quality. The pertinent calculations requ.re usir4i digital computers. The employment of the effectiveness criterion represents a new approach to the design and construction of ACS and makes a possible to predict the probabilistic deviations of parameters In the process of operation and to formulate the problem of dotet.AnIxg the opti- mal parameters.
