with extensive and severe burning that the possibility of other traumatic sources
was eliminated. On the basis of their observations AM experience the authors be-
ligve that Infection of thewounds &M Insufficient and unsuitable rehabilitation during
treatment might well be a cause of calcification and ossification. Attempts to cure
mature or developing ossification met with little success both cosmetically and
functionally. On the 9ther hand, prevention of infection and sirict asepsis in the
treatment of burned surfaces are important, as Is rapid skin -coverage. Theme
methods will shorten the time of treatment and will allow early careful exercise of
the JoLniihso that stiffness may be avoided. (:1X1 199

TITLE: Outdoor We&ther Ageing-and Shelf Ageing of Insulating
Materials and Their Relation to the Thermal Ageing'
PERIODICALt Zlektro-technicky'.obzor, 1960, Vol*49, No*79 PP-36o-367
TEXT: The results are described of long-run ageing testis
covering a period of 4 to 5 yearslof a number of insulating materials
which were exposed to'the effect of weather at various altitudes
above sea level in the HiSh Tatra Mount&inst Lomnick~ Itft (2634 0),
Skalnati Pleso (1754 m), Strbak'e Pleso (1351 m); and also on the
roof of a building in Bratislava (153 m) and in stores as well an in
laboratories In Bratislava. For some of the materials the results
on thermal ageing are also, available. Specimens were taken for
tests 1 to 4 times per annum. It was found that for natural rubber
it is sufficient to check the progress of outdoor ageing once per
annum, for the ageing of moulded plastics (phenols) once in two
years and for shelf ageing of enamel wire once every six months.
In contrast to a number of other authors (Refs-3-10),who used
average values, the author of this paper used in his statistical
evaluation each individual measurement. Equalization of the ageing

independent variable, the -exposure time tmonths' was plotted as a
function of the elongation (%), Ig a . By means of the method of
the least squares, the correlation e8efficient r as well as the

was determined. Quantitative:evaluation was by correlation
Cal culationIanalysis of the variance, testing of -the importance of
various values and particularly of the differences in the character-
istics of the regression ageing lines, using formulae published by
0. L. Davies (Ref.24), L. J. Jenkins (Ref.25) and W. Volk (Ref.26).
The results obtained for neopren are given in Fig 1 6 9% vs* t,

Bratislava). The "ageing half-time" is about 100 months knd the
service life until the elongation in reduced to a critical value in
about 30 years. The results obtained for vulcanized synthetic and
natural rubber are plotted in Fig.2, 6 % vs. t, months.

The loss factoil the dielectric constant and the 200%

TEM The article describes the results of complex aging of model-
coil (motorette) insulations, which were tested in Shanghai and Cantong
China, in May - Oct 1957, to supplement accelerated aging tests previously
performedAu Brati.slavap ftSRs' Such complex tests (temperature aging and
exposure to subtropical weather conditions), based on modified IEC and
AIEE Standards, were performed.for the first time and it wa's questionable
whether such short natural cycles exert any noticeable influence. The
model coils of Al 0.8 PI enameled wire, with YSLAB fiberglass and GAM 22

voltagg. Coils type "a" had a'life of 112 days at 130 C and of 47.9 days
at 150 C. The accelerated tests performed In Bratislava produced 4-5
times longer coil lives. In coils type "b", the phase insulation was the
first to fail and this insulation type is considered "unbalanced" according
to Eo Le Brancato and Le He Johnson (Ref. Is FUnctional Evaluation of
Motorette Insulation Systems# Eloctrical Manufaoturingt March 1959p no* 3)
pp. 146-53). Best results were achieved with "be" coils. At an aging
temperature of 1060C9 coil lives were 500 days for I'&" coils, 800 days
for "b" coil and 29200 days for "be" coils,. Coil lives measured in
Bratislava w:re 40% longer (3,300 days at 1060C). Different from IEC
standards, the coils were subjected to 8 - 20 aging cycles in each tem-
perature Tange. Also temperature-resistance tests, performed in China,
did not produce pod results as were achieved in accelerated agingg and
coil insulations had to be classified one thermal class lover than
expected (e*g. the "bell Insulation had to be placed Into temperature

Class A instead of Class Z). Also the Insulation resistance and capaci-
tance measured In China was quite different from values measured in
Bratislavao In conclusion the author states that the described complex
aging tests (10 days exposure to tropical climate) are a suitable pro-
cedure for testing life-characteristics of motorette coils., and that the
coil lives were shorterg the temperature classes lowerg and the insulation-
resistance and capacitance values more dissipated than th se measured in
tests performed according, to, IEC and AIM Standards in th: USSR (A days
conditioning at a relative humidity of 100%). The author gives credit
to Engineer Chaternuch vho initiated the complex-aging tests in China.

insulation systems in India am analyzed and compared with those of tests conducted
in Bratislava with similar systems under artificial conditions, While the permanent
heat resistance in the case of lower heat class systems tested in China decreased
by a whole class in comparison with the tests conducted in Bratislava# the system of

TE)(Ts The following,is adeiailed description of the mechanical
manipulator type M22, whichwas recently built In Czechoslovakia after"Soviet
documentation. The purpose of this 'article is'to acquaint all interested persons
with this new device. The manipulator, which In designed to move radioactive sub-
stances in combustion chambers, Is divided into three main sections 1) basic
section; 2) moving seotionj 3) connecting section. The author goes on to
explain all operations this device can perform and gives such technical data as:
length 2 - 4 m, turning radius'left and right 1'75 degrees, bearing capacity
3-15 kg. This manipulator is now being used mainly for work with radio-isotopes,
but it may also be utilized In the ohemical industry where poisonous gases are
involved. It is being manufaotured by Mikrotechn~a in Jablonec. There are 2
diagrams and 3 photos.
