G., Corresponding Member 2o-3-50/59 TITLE On Ramon-y-Cajalls Interstitial Celle (0b interatitsialinykh kletkakh Kakhalya) PERIODICAL; Doklady AN SSSRI 1958, Vol. 110i Nr 3P pp. 592-594 (USSR) ABSTRACT: According to its importance the problem of these cello is at present put on the same level with the problem of the interneuronal junctions. The author gives a survey on literature which shows the different and contradicting opinions of several authors. On the one hand these cells are assumed to be nervous formations (reference 1), on the other hand they are considered a special form of connective tiesue cells (references 3i 4, and others). Finally numerous research-men.consider the intera-~:ltial cells lemnoblasts (references 5 - 0). Lavrentlyev (reference 5) believes interstitial cells to the Schwann calls which anastomose with their processes and thus form a syncytium (figure 1). This point of view was confirmed by the experiments of the author carried out at that time (together Card 1/k with Meshcheryakov, reference 9). They observed a selective 3 On Ramon-y-Cajalls InterstAtial Cells 20-3-5o/59-- degeneration of the sympathetic fibers in the Schwann cords of the m. retractor penis and in the smooth musculature of the rectum. Lavrentlyev could prove that the fibrous structures described by several authors in the interstitial calls which.paas the Schwann syncytium end at the cell elements of the smooth intestinal musculature. They were considered to be axle cylinders which seemed to be most plausible, Several paperst however, Were published of late which try to reason the nerve-like nature of interstitial calls (references 29 lo - 13)- Ueyling's attitude io in this connection especially decided (references 12, 13). Khabonero (Jabonero, references lo, 11) joins him. These -authors introduce a third intermediate neuron into the efferent chain of Lengley and thus destroythe current conception concerning the structure of-the au-tonomous nervous system which is orthodox on the strength of many histological and, physiological observations of the past and the current century. In view of the complicated character and the importance of the problem of these cells the author used several neuro-histological methods (old and new) for his study. His preparations did not admit to count the Card 2A interstitial neurons of Kakhall to the nerve-like formations. On'Ramon-y-Cajalls Interstitial Celle KOLosov, u.a. SOV/?0-3-6-?/25 TITLE: Structure of Mixed Crystals in the System Dibenzyl- stilbene (Stroyeniye smeshannvkh kristallov sistemy dibenzil-stilben) PERIODICAL: Kristallografiya, 1958, Vol 3, Nr 6, PP 700-?05 (USSR) ABSTRACT: Dibenzyl, C14H,4 and stilbene, C14"12 have similar molecular dimensions and the same space group in the crystalline state (P21/a = C5 2h) but for dibenzyl Z=2 and for stilbene Z=4 Crystals of different intermediate compositions were grown from the melt in a spec;al thermostat with a stability better than + 0.05 C which corresponded to a.composition deviation if not more than 0.5%. Growth of small crystals for optical and X-ray goniometry lasted 15-30 hours. Examination of the external forms of the crystals showed the existence of two solid phases. Pure dibenzyl crystallises in coliimn extended- alon b I terminated by the forms (001), (20t) d (1005 - Crystals with dissolved stilbene are progranessively less elongated.but show much the same forms except for Ca.rdl/31 (100) - Pure stilbene is platy, the main faces being SOV/70-3-6-7/25 Structure of Mixed Crystals in the System Dibenzyl-stilbene (001) and on increasing the dibenzyl content the flatness decreases. The phase diagram of the system was worked O-atl IU.V. spectral analysis being used to measure the compositiolzia. Between 10 and 470A stilbene the solid solution detays (X-rays were used to accelerate this process). Mixed crystals tend to decay to stilbene by the preferential evaporation of the dibenzyl but if this is prevented they are stable for at least two years. Precision X-ray determinations of the unit cell dimensions of the pure components and the solid solutions with 5, 12, 23 and ?4% stilbene were made. An RKU-86 powder camera with the film mounted after the Straumanis method was used. A single crystal of NaCl served to calibrate the camera. Linear relationships in the variation with composition of the unit cell elements was found except in the region 12-23% stilbene where the change to the doubled c-axis occurs. The dimensions of the pure components were found to be d;benzyl: a = 12.801 b = 6.158, c = 7-746, l1ro 091 and sti;bene: a = 12.37?, bo= 5.?261 15-9621 0 = 114 06'. Elektromekhanika.i avtomatika, 1958, Nr 3, PP 78-82 (USSR) ABSTRACT: When planning electrical elements for automatic devices and apparatus, the selection of the operating temperature of the coils is of importance. By means of the insulation material developed it is possible to operate with temperatures up to 300%. For short-time loads, as e.g, in the.case of sprinkling devicesy damage-relaye of catapults in aircraft-cabins, formula (1) gives the equation for the adiabatic equilibrium of a coil, in which case the coefficient of the specific heat for the entire coil.(metal and insulation) is used. The solu- tion of this equation shows the variation of the heating of the coil during the stage of transition. Solutions are developed both for direct and for alternating current. The influence exercised by the frequent changes of temperature upon the in- sulation values is investigated, and an equation is given, Card 1/2 the solution of which is approximated by a Maclaurin series. Op~erating Temperature Forcing of'-El6ctrical Coils SOIV/161-58-3-9/27 In conclusion# the effects produced by the advantage offered by increased operation temperaturep such as shorter wires, smaller size of coils, etc are discussed. First the causes are given for the non-linearity of the static volt ampere characteristic of thermistors and the temperature resistance curve then-discussed. As the thermistorts resistance depends very much on the temperature as well as on the current value, the volt-ampere characteristic is markedly non-linear and can have a section with a negative slope. The exist- Card 1/3 ence of a falling section in this curve leads to SOV/143~~9-3/18 Problems of Analytical Computation of Electrical Circuits with Semi-Conducting Thermo-Resistances multivalence of the volt-ampere,characteristic, which not only enables us to use the thermistor in proportion- al working, but to create a relay effect in thermistor circuits. A thermistor., then., is a sharply expressed non-linear resistance. The-paper then deals with the method for.computing thermistor circuits in a non- specific case. 'This is a graphic method. Its efficien- cy and simplicity depend to a large degree on well selected approximation, which is itself examined here, i.e. the polynome approximation. Three cases of poly- nomial approximation of,the temperature characteristics are examined; a)lVhen the temperature variation range of the thermistor~ at work is quite narrow. b) When the temperature variation range covers a large section of the temperature.'characteristic. c) With average temper- ature variation range. The author concludes that the work of electrical circuits with thermistors can be computed without great difficulty with the help of Card 2/3 analytical methodsy using only the temperature 'r/3605 PhASE I BOOK EXPLOITATION SO'~ Kolosov' S P , N.P. The conditions of the atmosphere in a hermetically sealed aircraft cabin are quite important and it is necessary to control the humidity, among the other parameters-. The author considers the dynamic behaviour of electrical and mechanical humidity detectors constituting elements of psychrometers, in the small- signal or linear approximation. Equations are obtained for the- time constants of these elements. Due to the substantial inertia of such elements, it is desirable to introduce derivative control. This can be obtained using two detectors with differing time constants and employing the difference signal, which is then proportional to the rate of change of the input signal.
