method similar to the method of K detemination was
developed for the gmvimetric determination of Ca.
13.1 to 123.1 mg of the sample in the form of
CsCl Is dissolved in 2D ml of water, heated to 60
or 70 , a 1W~-ual excess of 30-~ual solution of I
in 1 n. LI;CO solution is added while stirring

ABSTRACT: -The purpose of,the present 1*eper is to explain the origin of Y_ radia-
tion. by measuring'the energy with a scintillation spectroceter vith an Nal(TI)
crystal. From -the measurements-pVesented it fol.lov,5 that they-radlation accom-
panying, the reaction L17 (don) Bad from L17 has an energy or 478 ke-V and is pro-
duced by the deexcitation of L17 (478 koj). According to the measurwents the
Q hardest component of the. Y-radiaiion originates in the process. The previowly
published 4i,9 Mev line contradicts present-day knowledge of tbe level cUa&r=_,% of
the nuclei concerned. :En a&Ut:.Loa, this line was measured using a method which is
not concise from the present point of view (Al foil). The mechanism of excitation'
o~f the 478 keV level in Li can be of two types: either by (d,d I ~) reaction of by
(no nt$) reaction. From the numerical estimation of the ratio of the -radiation

TEXT: A patent is granted for a device for discrete tape transport, e.g.,
of perforated tape, for a digital computer. The device is distinguished by
higher operating speed and simplicity of design. -The essence of the invention
(see Figure) consists in the use of an electromagnetic catch (10) serving to
transport the tape (40) and brake its motion when the armature (11) is pulled up
under the effect of current flowing ir. the winding (12). The tape is trantport-
ed by wars of the driving rollers (41) and (42) and the rigid pins (33), (33),
between which rotates the Journal (32), which is mounted on the lever (31) cou-
pled with the driving axle (30) of the electric motor (not shown in the figure).
The punch or printer (43) is placed before the tape transport mechanism. The

driving axle (30) is connected with the switch (34) which connects the current
supply circuit (35) to the winding (12)'of the electromagnet (10) depending on
the position of the journal (32). When the journal (32) is in positions such as
are shown in the figure, the tape (40) is bent, the circuit of the winding (12)
is closed, and the take (40) is squeezed between the core of the electromagnet
(10i and its armature (11), so that tape is fed from the spool (45). Upon move-
ment of the journal (32), the circuit of the winding (12) is broken and the tape
is transported. To ensure correct punching (or printing of symbols) on the tape
(4o) immediately after breaking of the circuit of the winding (12), the tape (40)
is fed into the arrangement through a guide slit (44) which brakes it slightly
(the tape braking force in the slit (44) is slightly less than the tractive
force produced by the rollers (41) and (42) ). In an alternative system for
this arrangement there is instead of the slit (44) a braking electromagnet whose
winding is cut-in through the switch.04) analogously to the one described.

Abstract: The influence of tannic acid on the functioning of the liver
i7a-sinvestigated with respect both to the dose and the nianner in which
it was adninistored. Experimento on rabbits showed t-hat 500 mg/kg of
tannin impaired the functioning of the liver after 1 and 2 days, Lower
amounts of tannin did not have any effect. Amounts of 500 and ICO mg/'kg
resulted in a decrease in the glycogen content of the liver, reduction of
the fat content, and ultimately in a parenchymal degeneration. 6 Western
