A critical analysis is given of practical factory methods used for calculating the
starting characteristics of phaneropolar synchronous machines and for calculating
their parameters. On the basis of this analysis, a more ratiorLA1 method is proposed
for calculating the slarting characteristics and accurate curves are given for
determining the coefficients of the field which are necessary for the calculation

ABSTRACT:' -this pipir,shdW3 that the end-turn leakage parameters
of non-contact selsins can exceed considerably the
groove-16akage.- Formulae given in current litefature
lead to false result's for non-contact selsins. The
paper compares'theoretical computations with test
results using a batch of BS-404 selsins-and comes to
the following conclusions: Calculations made according
to the formulae given, showed that the inductive end-
turn leakage reactance was 5.64 ohms, from the
