TEXT: A new moulding material, boroszil, is described.
It was developed by the two institutes (see Associations) with the
assistance of Kdbhnyai-NUanyaggyhr (Artificial-Materials Factory of
Kdb&nya, Budapest) and Edtvdo LorAnd Tudom&nyegyetem Szervetlen
Kfimiai TanBz6k. (Edtv6s Lorfind Scientific University, Inorganic Che-t
mistry Department). The moulding powder is manufactured by Kdbhnyai
Hiianyaggyhr. The material nombines many of the advantageous proper-
ties of moulding powders containing wood-flour or mineral filterse
Its use is advantageous both in power and in telecommunication indus-
tries and in particular where the equipment is exposed to moisture
anA heat as well as electrical and mechanical stresses. Its price is

ABSTRACT: The pretreating of powdered mineral fillers improved the moisture resist
of the po3,yester resin to which it was added. A quartz powder of a 0000 mesh contain-
ing (in %) 99.5 Si02, 0,035 Fe 203$ 0,2 A1203P 0004 C&O. and 0.1 K20 + Na20. with a 1
loss on ignition of 0.125 was usbd as a filner in a series of experimentso Pretreating
this filler-with h'alogen silanes in the vapor phase and with an organic solution or
emulsion of silicon oils produced no satisfactory results. However,, a pretreatment
with polyalkoxysiloxane, produced in Hungary, of the general structural formula

prove the quality of the finished polyester product, but rather made the polyester
resin porous, thus decreasinaits resistance to moisture, A pretreatment of the filler
generally decreased the bend resistance of the polyester resin product, but when t~~
s.ored in water, its strength dropped much less than that of the product contain-
in- untreated filler. The surface resistances specific resistance, and insolatton
resistance of products containing the treated filler and stored in water remained on
a high level for a much longer times and both the dielectrio loss factor and the
