ABSTRACT: *The- bihaV_10-r-of cotarnon oxime (cf. ROSER, W.; Liebies Ann. Chemj

'bases (as described by the authors in earlier instalments of this series in
'this Journal between 1959 and 1965) was investigated. It was found that
this compound transform3 into cotarnon nitrile when heate6 in ethyl alco-
-holic potassium cyanide solution, and into 6,7-methylenedioxy-8-methoxy-
:3,4-dihydro-iso-carbostyryl when heated in a potassium hydroxide solution.
iXn the presence of potassium hydroxide and catalytic quantities of potas-
Isium cyanide it transforms into 6 7-methylenedioxy-8-methoxy-isoquinoline.

ABSTRACT: The hydrazone derivatives of cotarnon transform into isoquinoline
derivatives when heated in alkaline alcohol in the presence of potassium cyanide
catalyst. N,Nt-bia(isoquino1ine) derivatives form from cotarnazine under these
conditions in the absence of catalyst. If a catalyst is present the reaction
product is a mixture of isoquinoline and norcotarnin. The steps leading to the
synthesis of N,N?-bis(:Lsoquino1.ine) were described in detail and the structure of
the product was verified by infrared spectroscopy. The UV and IV spectrums wore

ABSTRACT: The paper is a continuation ofprevious work (Ref 3),
and deals with the lateral deflection (if) and banding

ABSTRACT: At present Integer problems are among the most important (and most difficult)
tapes of linear programming'problems. A fairly large number of stuaies is being published o1i
this subject and the non-specialist does not find it easy to orient himself in these studies. The
present article provides a survey of publications on integer programming up to 1964 and thus:',',
fills an important gap in the Russian-language literature on mathematical programming. Thoi-,'.
survey pertains to the following classes of integer problems: 1) Extremal problems of com-
binatorial type; a) unimodular problems; b) general problem of the scheduling'theory; c) the
traveling salesman problem; 2) Problems with nondivisible types of production or resources;
a) general problem; b) problem of the selection of machin6ry in the productiog plan; c) problem
of the deployment of ships along routes; d) linear programming problems resiricted to the

number of applicable methods; e) the knapsack problem: f) the problem of the distribution
of machine memory; 3) Linear programming problems relating to nonconvex and nonconnected
domains; 4) Linear programming problems with inhomogeneous (discontinuous) objective
function. With respect to the inhomogeneous objective function problem a brief exposition of
Balinskiy's method and of its modification developed at the Leningrad Computer Center of the
Academy of Sciences USSR is presented. Considerable space is devoted to methods of solution
uf integer problems. A method of solution of the knapsack problem is presented. A survey
of the methods proposed '-r various authors (Gomory, Dantzig, A. Land and Doig, Benders,.

(Ref. Zh. Mat, 1959, 7266) and its modification pertaining to mixed-integer programs are
described in detail. Numerical examples of the solution of the all-integer and mixed-integer
programs by means of the Gomory method are presented. Certain findings on the solution of
problems of integer linear programming by means of computers also are presented. Biblio-
