The experiments were 1.,arried out in 2 series on 25 cats under urethan anaesthedia.
In the first series respiratory changes were observed, developing under the influ-
ence of the general hyp:)thermia of the organism with preserved vagus nerves. In
the second series of experiments in the hypothermized animals both vagi were se-
vered in the neck. The following results were obtained: (1) When the body tempera-
ture decreases to a marked degree, the intensity of depth of respiration increases
more than its frequency. (2) From the point of decrease of the body temperature
to 22* C. there develops a deficiency of respiratory function which fails to cover
the requirements of the organism. (3) A detailed analysis of the course of changes
in respiration leads to the assumption that, as the body temperature decreases,
the disturbances of respiratory function of central origin (respiration of Cheyne-
Stokes type and of Kusfimaul type) and not of peripheral origin occur. (4) The death
of the animal follows as the result of damage of the respiratory centres and not of
paralysis of the nervous endings in the respiratory muscles. The respiratory
changes of central origin supply the proof of this. (5) The exclusion of action of the
vagus nerves on the respiratory function makes a-decrease of temperature to 15* C.
possible without disturbances developing in the respiratory. -rhythm ard without de-

In 15 clogs %%4ighing 8-16 kg., under i.v. thiopental anaesthesia, histamine phosphate
(5-400 jAg. ':n I ml. solution) was introduced into the heart and various segments
of the aorta through flexible catheters previously filled with lieparin. The following
conclusions are presented- (t) The latent period of the posthistamine decrease of
blood pressure regardless of the dose introduced - into the aorta lasts 3-41 sec.;
12-19 sec. after i.v. introduction and 8-12 sec. after introduction into the right
ventricle. (2) A non-homogenous picture of changes is observed after introduction
of histamine into the left ventricle. Type I - the extent and the latent period do
not differ from its introduction into the aorta. Type 11 - changes testifying to the
appearance G f heart paralysis in diastole, increase of systolo-diastolic amplitude and
slowing of the heart rate develop. Type III occurs irregularly and only with larger
doses. (3) After introduction of histamine into the coronary circulation, negative
inotropic ancl chromotropic effects are observed on analysis of the pressure curve.
(4) The post-histamine character of the drop in the pressure curve changes from
monophasic to biphasic if histan~ine has been introduced into the aorta just below
the coeliac artery. (11,18)

Temperature changes in the right and left heart and the sinus sngittalis after farad-
ic stimulation of the central end of the vagus in rabbits are described. The stimula-
tion causes a rise of temperature in the right and left heart. These changes are of
short cluration and the temperature returns to its original level after 30 sec. to
I min. Subsequently, temperature changes after stimulation of the centrul part of
the nerve in the sinus sagittalis were investigated. Vagus stimulation leads to a
decrease In he temperature recorded thermo-electrically on the surface of the
sinus '.gitt' Us. In several instances a diphasic course of the temperature changes
in the ninus sagittalis was observed. The mechanism of these changes is discussed.
The riiie of temperature in the left heart is explained in the first place by changes
in the heart and respiration rates due to stimulation of the central portion of the
vagus. Changes in the sinus sagittalia are explained chiefly by vasomotor changes.

after their decomposition by calcining with salts of alkaline metals, for
example with potassium.sulphatqs or with alkaline earth salts. It is
characterized by a leaching of the calcined ore with hot water, advantage-
ously at a temperature of 50 - 1100C and boiling at an addition of a
substance binding fluorine, for.example of anorganic compounds of calcium
or magnesium.. Thereby the surplus of the substance used in binding of the
fluorine is removed directly in the leaching plant by addition of a sub-
stance containing a solubl* flt.oride.

TRYT: A method to increase the extraction 'of Li from F-containing ores,
for example, in the form of minerals, lepidolite, zinnwaldite and amblygonite is
suggested The method consists in grinding the ore to 0.15 mm, sintering at
9008C with* K2S04 and subsequent lixiviat*ion with water at 50 - 110 0C. To bind P
during lixiviation, Ca (OH) 2 is added. The excess of Ca (OH) 2 is neutralized by
adding soluble P compounds. Li is produced from the solution in the form of'
Li2Go 3'
