PERIODICAL: Revista de Chimie, 19r,19, Vol 10, Nr 10, pp 596-601
ABSTRACT: "Altenall is the name of a product at a pilot sta-
tion of the ICECHIM'Plant where a polymer of
ethylene is obtained at -a low pressure, "aluminum
alkyl'' being used as a catalyst. The characteris-
tics of.the polymer obtained normally differ
according to the conditions in which synthesis
took place. This article shows a few aspects and
characteristics of "Altenall which is processed by
injection, extrusion and pressing and has been
tested by the Plastic Materials Section of the
Tnstitutul de Gercet~iri Chimice (Chemical Research
Card 1/3 Institute) - ICECHIM - in Bucharest. The main

objects were: a) Identification of polymers
from synthesis by their principal characteristics;
b) establishing various possibilities for the use
of these polymers;andb )finding the optimum con- V/Z
ditions for processing thes3e polymers by injection,
ext-rusion and pressing. "Altena" plates are used
for manufacturing chemical equipment. They can be
made from a single type of polymer or from a
mixture of types; the latter cannot be used since
their molecular weight is either too small or too
great. Materials now considered unsuitable can
possibly be used for extrusion and injection.
Industrial equipment has been successfully tested
at the Bucharest Plastic Materials Laboratory
and at the ICECHIM plant.- "Altenall products are
similar to foreign products like the "Hostalen"
foreign polymer shown in table 2. The domestic

color which is'presently oharacteristic of'Altena
does not make a great difference since quality
alone plays the important role.

MUOD TCAL: Plaste und Rautschuk, V. 9, 110. U, ~962, 536 - 539
TaT: PVC was compounded with chlorinated polyethylene (CPZ) by first plastici.,
in; PVC for 5 run by rolling, after iihich the CPZ was applied to the mixing cy-
linder and both polyiners were rolled for mothor 5 -win. Mis procedure produces
an homogenous micturc with higher physical-mecNinical properties than if both 1
r,ol--,,,.crs were arplied sirmiltan6oitsly. CPAZ containing 35 - 45 10 chlorine is niosi
-nitable for obtaining a highly inpact-resistant PVG compound. CPS containing
110 - 45 -,'Z chlorine is to be preferred if a high transparency of the compound is
,a
Acsired. The"authors state theories on PVC compounding, which are based an Wes-
tern publications. Conclusions: Compoun-ded PVC is easier to be processed than
hard PVC.* It flows better even at a ter.-periture Aich is 10-151C lower than that
used for processing hard PVC. PVC/CPZ compounds can be used in all cases where

hard-PVC shows poor strength results, especially at low temperatures. Zxamples:
Pressure pipes in the open air or in unheated rooms, transparent roofs, balcony
rai3inr-s, jerry cans for fuel or lubricants. The 35,- 50 CES compounds are
suitable, on account of tineir elasticity and electric properties, for the insula-
tion of cables and conductors. They have a li:~gghcr resistance against oils, gaso-~
line, and solvents than PVC with conventional plasticizers. They remain elastic
since they are free from volatile and wanderin.-I components. The higher cost of
production of such compounds is balanced by the better quality and the improved
possibilities of application. There are 3 figures and 4 tables.
