Belyakov,,Y,_jc.,_rorostq1ev,_ 1. 1. Rogozin, and A. L. Siriko, Voye-nno-Moditsinskiy Zhurnal, No 11, Nov 56, pp 37-44 The article presents results of large-scale inoculations to deter- ine the epidemiological effectiveness of the dysentery components in vaccines against intestinal infections. In April 1955, 21,175 persons were inoculated with NIISI (Scientific Research Testing Institute of Sanitation) polyvaccine, 18,409 persons with tetravaccine, and 20,620 persons with antidysentery vaccine in tablet form. Of all persons un- der observation, 95-9~ were revaccinated, and the remaining 4.1% received only the primary vaccination. Groups in several populated areas were inoculated according to the same schedule. All infections which occurred during the month after inoculations acute dysentery inf'h=atLcacC intestines, and chronic dysentery -- were regis,k;erL1cL sepurately. , graph shows incidence curves of three groups, i.e., persons inoculated with NIISI polyvaccine, tetravaccine, and anti- dysentery tablets, respectively, for a period of" 6 months (May-September). The article considers minor differences in the curves to be the result of~chancc fluctuation in epidemiological conditions, not depandent on the nature of the inoculation. It states that none of the vaccines con.;, cient'_td-'C_ A~t '+,h dual- rise in Incidence.-, ferred inmunity 'CIM e seas Analysis~of-datA obtablbd d~rlngone year of observations (presented in Table 1) [tables not reproduced] substantiated the similarity in ef- fectiveness of the vaccines tested. Insignificant differences in inci- dence were consistently evidenced. It was found, however, that indexes of incidence according to group were dissimilar in several of nine ob- servation points. Table 2 shows appreciable differences in incidence rates of acute dysentery and inflammatory intestinal infections in four observation points. The authors doubt that these fluctuations can be ascribed to the quality of the vaccines employed. They propose that they are due rather to peculiarities in edidemiological conditions, and offer data to substantiate this statement. Epidemiological data are confirmed by the results of laboratory investigations. Various clinical indexes according to method of intcu- lation of persons with acute dysentery are given in Table 3. Clinical manifestations and the severity of the course of the disease were simi- lar in all cases. Characteristics of dysentery pathogens isolated from patients areshown in Table..4.. Pathogens against which antigens were contained in the-vaccinee.vere isolated most frequently. ./3 I-P IV, ~ V. yiz-1-. The article discusses the aEglutination reaction in sera of persons immunized with th~~ aforementioned preparations. Three groups of persons previously immunized parenterally against intestinal infections were inoculated with the preparations being in- vestigated and placed under observation. After revaccination, scla were taken from the patients and kept in a refrigerator for 1-_j months, at vhich time second and third portions of serum were collected from the same patients and stared. To eliminate the possibility of chance re- sults in determining the quality of the vaccines, 12 series of each preparation were used for immunization. All three sera from the same person were investigated by the agglutination reactions with typhoia- paratyphoid and dysentery diagnosticums simultaneously. Ille article describes method used and discusses results obtained. "ON" diagnosticum, especially prepared for use in these tests was used. The reaction was set up in serum dilutions beginning with 1:50 for typhoid-pa--atyphoid and Flexner's dysentery antigens, and 1:10 for Sonne's dysentex-y antigens. Indexes in all cases were rather close. Table 5 shows the number of sera reacting positively with each diagnosticum and in relation to the time .the serum was obtained. Percentages of persons in whom an increase in agglutination titer as a result of inoculation was observed are listed in Table 6. The data show that none of the vaccines brought about an Increase In thz. titer of agglutinins to any antigen in more than 50% of Jimunized persons. The best indexes were obtained with the typhoid component; relative evaluations, are given of, otber - components of tbe.tet- ravaccine and WIISI vaccines. 5 Tx L E; IV V. Y Average a-gglut ination. ti,t,e r,9-of -~he sera investigatcd with iantl&n aro shown in Table 7. Table 8 gives indexes of lncxeases in antibody .titers; these results indicated that tha NMI polyvaccine was slightly -superior to the tetravaccine. In Table 9, indexes of increase in the average titer of antibodies to the diagnosticum are presented; results sha,in in this table substantiate the superiority of all components 0j. the NIISI polyvaccine as compared with the tetravaccine.. The article concludes that the best.indexes were obtained from the typh(jid-paratyphoid components; the dysentery components were not maekedly, effective. Antidysentery vaccine in tablet form did not produce any in-...-~- crease in the titer of antibodies to either typhoid-paratyphoid or to dysentery antigens, wed. alushbr; MMOV, F.M., polkoynik sod. slushby Conference on problem ckf endwif areas and the apidesiolo&7 of partioularl,v dawrous 41seases. Otdeleniye khimicheakikh nauk, 1960, No. 8, p. 1510 TEXT: This is a brief communication on the catalytic synthesis of 2,4-di- tert-amyl phenol. The latter was synthesized by alkylating phenol with trimethyl ethylene in the presence of a KU-1 cationite, a sulfonated phenol-formaldehyde resin6 The yield of pure 2,4-di-tert-amyl phenol was 30% of the theory. 2,4-di-tert-amyl phenol was then transformed to the corresponding phenoxy acetic acid derivative. This was then prec.' i tated with hydrochloric acid and recrystallized from 20% alcohol. The yield was 30 to 35%. Amyl phenols, including 2,4-di-tert-amyl phenol was used as antioxidants and as intermediatesfor the synthesis of in- secticides and herbicides. There is 1 non-Soviet reference. It was not possible to extract the latter with water, owing to the formation of a redox system Cu. 2+ /Cu0. Trilon (I) was found to be suitable in this regard and it is stated that a 0-054 m solution (1) with a PH m 5-5 does not extract metallic Cu, Cu2 0 and CuO. The scheme of the phase analysia is given. Many products of the nonferrous metallurgy contain large amounts of oxides that increase the pH of the solution, thus dfst.-urbimg the course of phase analysis. They must be therefore extracted beforehand, without however extracting any of the other components. Also for this purpose (I) is suitablevas could be ascertained with material consisting (if Utilization of Trilon in the Chemical Phase Analysis SOV/32-25-5-2/56 SnCl 2" SnO, Sn02 and Sn, which contained up to 15 % CaO. Not only CaO could be removed, but also SnC12 was solved, whereas previously this could not be done without difficulties. The scheme of this phase analysis is also given. The same was also observed with a material containing CaO, CaS and CaC 2' wherein metallic zinc was to be determined with AgNO 171* Also in this case the use of (I) makes it possible to solve all Ca compounds, and consequently allows the quantitative separation of C 2R2 and H23 as well as the determination of GaS and CaC 2* In this case PbO and ZnO entei: solution as well, thus favoring the analysis. The scheme of a phase analysis on Pb- and Zn compounds in the presence of Ca compounds is given. (I) may also serve for the dissolution of some lead minerals, in which case the insolubility of PbS may be exploited for its separation. To be true, a dissolution of Pb- and Zn sulphides may be also brought about by a treatment with hydrogen peroxide. It was taken into account in the elaboration of the determination method of zinc compounds t 'hat Trilon (II) which dissolves the oxidized Zn-compoundB, and copper nitrate which dissolves metallic Zn# also dissolve the analogous lead compounds* The following scheme for phase analysis on the Zn- and Pb-compounds from a weighed portion was established on the Card 113 basis of the results obtained (Table I)s 1) Treatment with an Phase Analysis of Riaming Encrustations on SOV/32-25-9-9/53 Compounds of Zinc, "isjoadjand Arsenio ammoniacal Trilon solution inhibited with sodium dibutyl naphthalene sulfonate ("Nikal") and the subsequent determination of Zn and Pb of the oxidAtion product in the filtrate. 2) Treatment with copper nitrate and determination of the metallic Zn and Pb in the filtrate. 3) Treatment with H 20,3 and Trilon and subsequent determination of Zn and Pb of the sulphide in the filtrate. 4) Treatment with hydrochloric acid and determination of Zn from (1) in the filtrate.
