PERIODICAL: Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Geofizicheskaya, 1957, 'No.9, pp.1189-1193 (USSR) ABSTRACT: For the case of a uniform energy spectrum the gamma- radiation at any point of an infinite space, with a uniformly distributed radio-active substances, can be determined by means of eq.(7), P-1190; for an infinite semi-space with equal radio-active properties the intensity of y-radiation at the boundary air-medium can be expressed by eq.(14), p.1191, both derived in this paper. These formulae are valid also for the case of a non- uniform spectrum of the y-radiation caused by radio-active components which are genetic.ally not inter-related; in this case eqs.(?) and (14) are used in the form expressed by eqs.(16) and (17). It was found that in the case of a radiating medium of the same density and the same Card 1/2.*coefficient of weakening, the ratio of the intensity of the Deter 49 9-12/15 mination of the intensity of the y-radiation in thr-ee- dimensional radiO-active sources, taking into consideration the effects of scattering. Y-radiation in an unlimit,ed medium with equal radio-active parameters is a constant value equalling 0.5. There are 3 figures and 2 Slavic references. SUBMITTED: September 25, 1956. The whole region is of an exceed- ingly complex isoclinal folding structure. The author de- scribes this structure in detail. She found that the in- dustrially-important layers of phlogopite were thb.pyro- xene-amphibolic gne-4sses of the upper formation and the leucocratic biotite gneisaes and diopside rocks of the lower formation. TITLEt On the Influence of the Composition of the Country Rocks Upon the Time of Ore-Formation in the Dzhidg Ore-Deposit (0 vliyanii soota- va bokovykh porod na priurochennoit' orudeneniya na Dzhidinakom mestorozhdenii) PERIODICALt Doklady Alf SSSR, 1956, Vol- 116, ITr 2, Pp~- 365 - 366 (USSR) ABSTRACT: As is well-knoym (references 2, 4) this ore-deposit of rare metals is spatially and genetically in connection with a smaller Mesozoic intrusive of granite-porph,vries. This intrusive penetrated along the contact of a diorite-ma,ssif and an offusive-sedimentary Cam- brian stratum (reference 1). A sharp spatial separation of the molybdenum- from the tungsten-mineralization is a peculiarity of the Dzhida ore-deposit (figure 1, 1). This led to the conception of 2 independent ore-deposits in a very small area. The molybde- num-mineralization is strictly confined to the granite-porphyry- -intrusive itself. Here it manifeate iteelf in quartz-veins and mainly in a denee network of small veins which in the western en- docontact-zone form a 100-150 m wide stockwork. In contrast to Mo- lybdenum the tungsten-mineralization io connected with quartz veins Card 1/4 which outside the granite-porphyry-intrusive are also deposited 20-2-46/6o On the Influence of the Composition of the Country Rocks Upon the Time of Ore- Foimation in the Dzhica Ore-Deposit in the containing slates and quart z-diorit ea. 11. K. frefedov explains such a disconnection by a mineralization different with respect to time which was in connection with 2 independent magma reservoirs. Kushnarev (reference 4), however, on the basis of an equal nineral composition of the tungsten- and molybdenum-veins comes to the conclusion that both ore-deposits not only belong to the same magma reservoir but even stem from a uniform process of mineralization. The spatial separation he explains by a pulsating development of the crevice-tectonica. Consequently it is supposed that first the molybdenum-story deposit in the granite-porphyry story developed and thereafter a vein deposit of tungsten outside the domain of the story4 After a 2 years study of the rocks modified beside the veins the author precisely defined the genesis of this ore-deposit. The vein-like distribution of the sulfides and the cementation of crushed quartz-places with HUbnerit by these sulfides (reference 5) indicates a pulsating form tion of the veins and a superposition of the sulfide-mineralization on a preceding Hdbnerit-mineraliza- tion.-Larger veins (No.1, 2, 24 and others) occur in the slates east of the gran i te -porphyry- in trusi vs. In spite of their close Po- sition to the molybdenum-containing veins of the intrusive these Card 2/4 veins are free of molybdenum. Their rich content of byrite and 2v"-2-44160 On the Influence of the Composition of the Country Rocks Upon the Time of Ore- -Formation in the Dzhida Ore-Deposit rhodochrosite apparently is in connection with the high content of iron (11,5 %) and manganous oxide (0,29 %) in the slate. The molybdenum deficiency in the veins is apparently juat explained by thqdeposition of large amounts of sulfide. Thereby the concentra- tion of sulfur in the solutions was so much reducad that they be- came incompletely saturated for molybdenum, Thus molybdenite was only precipitated in the low-iron rocks in which the sulfur oon- centration was high enouah to brinR about a aupersaturation of the solution with molybdenum. The author confir.-,q Kushnarev's opinion (reference 4) that molybdenum was not separated during earlier 0 sta-es of a "molybdenum"-mineralization. The more it is necessary 0 to assume the occurrence of two independent ma.-ma reservoirs in the interior. The dependence of the molybdenum-Liinerelization on the granite-porphyries represents a concrete exa,-aple of a strong influence of the medium upon the composition of ore. Finally the att hor gives some practical advices regarding the further exploi- tation of these ore-deposits in the light of the above-mentioned statements. TITLE: An Occurrence of Paralumnite in the Jurassic Sediments of the Southwestern Edge of the Vilyuyakaya Depression (Nakhodka paralyuminita v yurskikh osadkakh yugo-zapadnoy okrainy -Vilyuyskoy vpadiny) PERIODICAL: Doklady Akademii nauk SSSR, 1956, Vol 123, Nr 2, PP 357-360 (USSR) ABSTRACT: A sandy, clayey mass of Upper Lias strata occurs 3 km north- east of the "Mir" kimberlite plug at the edge of the "Gorelyy" (left tributary of the Irelyakh River) spring. Lumps, 2 to 3 cm in diameter and composed of a chalky substance, occur in a light yellow clay bed that is 1-5 m thick. These lumps are composed of the rare mineral paralumnite (material presented 'by G. P. FaynBhteyn). The white mass of the mineral in the lumps has a non-greasy feel, smears the hands, sticks to the tongue, and smells like clay. When ground in a mortar, this mineral stic" 'to the'mortar, even when completely dry. The initially weak effervesence in-10~ hydrochloric acid becomes Card 1/4 strong after one minute and is accompanied by a considerable SOYI/20-123-2-41/50 An Occurrence of Paralumnite in the Jurassic Sediments of the Southwestern Edge of the Vilyuyskaya Depression Card 2/4 development of heat. This is caused by the substitution of chlorine for the hydroxyl group. All of the optical properties agree with those described in the reference books (Refs 1,2). The chemical formula is (Table 1) as follows: 2A1203' so 3*14-7 H20 and is near that of paralumnite. Figures 1 and 2'show data from thermal analyses. Tables 2 and 3 contain the X-ray constants, which are different from those of other known alumno-sulfates. A comparison of paralumnite constants in-the scientific literature was not possible, since these data have, not been published. Through microscopic investigations of the mineral while immersed, it was proven that upon heating up to 100 0. the refraction rises sharply, while the double refrac- tion falls'(Fig 3). The refrac*tive index does not change es- 0 sentially with heating of the mineral up oto 300 . The lumin- escence, prodiict of paralumnite up to 750 is an isotropic sub- stance with N = 1.567. A complete transformation into an amorphous material results from X-ray treatment. After sulfur is removed by roasting, the substance remains isotropic but SOV/20-123-2-41/50 An Occurrence of Faralumnits in the Jurassic Sediments of the Southwestern Edge of the Vilyuyakaya Depression becomes strongly refractive (N - 1.630). Further heating up to 0 1 200 causes no variation in either the structure or the refractive properties. The substance is by this time a one phase' cbruTidum7 (Hof -3), which zis strongly dispersed. Paralumnite was found in'the wall of a city building (Ref 4). It formed radial aggregates in cavities of a 40 year old concrete. The formation of paralumnite lumps in the sandy clay maccou in Siberia is explained by the occurrence of organic sulfur in a clay rich material. There are 4 figures, 2 tables, and 4 ref- vrene'es, 3 of which are Soviet.
