TEXT-. T The author studied basic characteristics of the process of extraci-'
ing Ag and Au from cyanide solutions. The potentials of Ag deposition out of
cyanide solutions on Pb- and Cu-cathodes are similar and equal to 0.6 v and on
Hg-cathodes - 0.5 v; potentials of Au deposition on Pb- and Cu-cathodes are 1.1
v. Without stirring the solution, 100% deposition of Ag is obtained within 60
minutes and of Au within 120 minutes. When stirring and heating up to 600C, a
100% deposition of Ag and Au can be obtained within 45 minutes, whereas during
carburizing 3 - 3 hours are spent. Current efficiency of Ag is 70 - 80% at Death-
0.046 amp/dm . Studies of the process of anode oxidation of amalgams showed that
full separation of Au from other impurities can be attained, Z. Soloviyeva

The nature and the momentum spectra of secondary 'particles produced in lead by
fast cosmic nucleons werestudied at an altitude of 3.,2150 m. above sea level by
means of a maFnetic mass-spectrometer, five-layer proportional counter and five-layer
sointillation counter.
The momentum spectra of *'))- -mesons, K-mesons, proi~ons and deutrons, renerated
by the charged and neutral components of cosmic radiat:ton, are presented.
The spectra ofjj-t -mesons produced by neutrons do no differ fromthe spectra of
-meson-s produced by fast charged particles. TheN+,/~P-ratio for '~;/ -mesons
generated~y protons differs from that for"M-t-mesons ~jlratedbv neutrons.
Among the products of stars Wth momenta up to 720 Mev/c, the number o K-mesons
is of the ordbr~-of-flQlot of the 71~ -mesons. In the 720-1,000 Ylev/c range,
NkINO 7 0.2.
In the momentum range up to 1,,000 Mev/c, an increase 3m Ahe number of K-mesons is
observed with ncrease in momentum. An evaluation of theu ratio was undertaken
where 6;7 , Rnre the cross seet4ons of K - meson production by neDtrons and protons.
Data are presented on the number of neutrons and protons of different enerEjes

In the momentum range up to 1,,000 MeVI/c,, an inermse intbe number of K-nesons is
observed with increase in moment=q. An-sevaluation of the / ratio was undertaken where
n, p are the crona seDtions of k-meson prodtictiWy neutrons and protons.
Data are presinted on the number of neutrons and protons of different energ-jes
in cosmic radiation flux at an altitude of 3,250 metrtisabove Bea level.

Abstract: A study was made on the chemical composition of
the Herzegovinian cotton in a r-;pe and semi-
ripe state, the fiber and seed yield, the fiber
length and the behaviour of cotton in processes
of boiling, bleaching and dyeing;. The Herze-
govinian cotton containst .18B.7$ of cellulose,
its fiber length and amount of impurities make
it suitable for the production of coarse cotton
fabrics and it,:is easily dyed by direct dyes.

ABSTRACT: In 1950 the Vontoohno-Sibirskoye aero.~uoln-ic-haekoye pred-
priyatiye yostochno-Sibirskoye Aerogeodetical Enterprise) started the
topographical survey on a scale of 1: 25000. The first sec-
tions of these maps showed big errors as the work via6 carried
out without an editor..The furthex sections are growing bet-
ter. Per this purpose, technical trainin- was introduced
in workshops and for the field squads. Besides, the students.
(candidates for diplomm)of the Irkutskil universitet ineni
Zhdanova (Irkutsk University imeni Zhdanov~, who worked as
trainers in the serviced developed concrete types of representa-
tion fo*he characterist*ic landscapes. Since 1953, technical
conferences of the editors have bean taking place every year
in winter. On the basis of editorial instructions by the

at the Vostochno-Sibirokoye Aerogeodetical Enterpi-Ise
the chief editor gives the editorial instructions for the whole
service. In the field work, theeditors take care that the
instructions are followed by the topographers. In the work
of map composition, the editorial plan is set up by the map
editor or by the chief editor. Theaditing method depends on
the methods of topographical survey and of map composition.
The different methods possible are described in short. The
activity of a field editor in the East Siberia Aerogeodetical
Service is then described in detail here. The area of Siberia
is poorly described in publications, and the regions to be
cartographed are therefore mainly studied by the editor on
the map on a scale of 1 : 100000. In advance, he sets up a
scheme for the photographic flighto. He compares the data of
the photographic flights with the phenological and hydro-
meteorological data. Then he sets -tip the scheme of landscapes
and the hydrographio scheme. One of' the most difficult tasks
is the coordination of the water levels. There is a lack of
water gauge stations; levels vary betveen 3 and 8 m in height
and 2 - 3 km in length; the longitudinal profile of the rivers
is, mostly irregular.-'The major part of these regions are

They are described in short here and shown in figure 3. In
connection with forest fires, uprootings and the subsequent
return to a wild state, the most different varieties of land-
scapes arise. Recommendations for representing the fire

TITLE: Cola and their representation on the topographic map on
a scale of 1 : 25,000

TEXT: The author deals only with those cola which she studied in the
areas of the Vostochno-Sibirskoye aerogeodezicheekoye predpriyatiye
(East Siberian Geodetical Enterprise). She discusses the representation
of cola on large-scale topographic maps and criticizes mechanical drawing.
A survey of the various forms of cola is given by means of figures. They
can be divided into symmetrical and asymmetrical forms. The former
comprise cola with symmetric position of the same contour lines on oppo-
site sides, the latter comprise those with &symmetric position of the
contour lines. The symmetric cola were formed on basic rocks with homo-
geneous geological structure under the action of erosion processes, main-
ly processes of progressive erosion. They are either narrow or wide (width
signifying the distance between the high sides of the col), or long or
