The advantage of this method over other forms of prucaine adininistrativn i~ the relatively rnpid action on the pathologtcal,process.I.v. injected procaine usually reduces and abolishes the pain Syndrome s~nd so exerts a beneficial effect on the general candttion of the patient, and on then course of the pathological process, I, v. Injection of procaine has a positive effect ~m the course of various leaicna of the cornea, particularly neurotbophic keratitia, and on acute iridocyclttia; it improves the healing of wounds of the eye, creates Hoare favourable conditions for surgery and the postoperative course, prevents inflammatory phenomena associated with oeuLr trauma and complications from burn injuries. Considering the positive effect of i. v. tnjectiun of procaine, the lather can be recommended as an auxiliary and additional agent in conservative and surgical treatment of diseases of the cor- ine~,tris, ciliary body, and of ocular traumla and burns. ~, ~ ~ ; ~. ..+ ' R /; ~l ~' .. .......... .m s.p-hsr -. O, - ZH,~~F'TALM, 1955, 4 (21g_221) Observations were made on 24 patient, with angiomata of the eyelid skin, con- f junetiva and sclera who were subjected; to diathermy coagulation. There were l6 patients in the age group up to 5 yr, anal 8 in the age grou 8-50 r. 1 the eyelid skin were present in 14 patients, of the skin of the inner and over to of 1J angles of the palpebral fissure in 5, of the scier~il conjunctiva and the sclera in 5 ~~ patients, The dimc~naions of the angiomata varied; from punctatc to extensive, up ~,t to 3 cm. in length (cavernous angiomata), An active electrode (needle ar 'button' ~~ was used for coagulation; it was applied 4-8 times to the affected tissue for 1-2 y sec. until a gray coagulate appeared, When an afferent btood vessel was found, it was coagulated at the start of the operation. In the case of eyelid lesions coagul- C ation was performed around the angioma within limits of healthy tissue to a depth i of 1-3 mm. into the g, c. cellular tisau~e, Treatment of eyelid angiomata was undertaken in 2-3 stages, with intervaLa of 3-4 weeks. '' Following coagulation the I operative site was treated with a lq6 solution of brilliant green and du$ted with '1 streptomycin powder. Albueid was instillled into the conjunctival sac. In the ma- jority of patients fine scars formed, w;lthout distortion of the a slid. ~r patient required plastic surgery following diathermy coagulation treatment, N~ le recurrences of angiomata occurred. T};~e results obtained provide evidence that diatherm . y coagulation is a valuable method of treatment for haemangioma. (S) APPROVED FOR RELEASE. 06/23/11 CIA-RDP86-005138000825300012-6 .
