Sporadic typhus fever (Brill's disease} is clinically often ~-typical, the duration of
fever not exceeding ?-10 days; the skin rash may be scanty or abscnt. Instead
of a moderate leucocytosis in epidemic typhus, leucopenia, and lyriiphocytosit~ oc-
cur in sporadic typhus. The Weil-Felix test i$ not reliable in spori~dic typhus since
in 50"jo of cases it ie negative or too weak. Among all typhus cases for 1852-154,
in 39.6'f. of eases the disease followed a previous typhus i~~feetian in the ptu~t. The
summer incidence of sporadic typhus In Poland is contrar;q to the winter incidencQ
of epidemic typhus. Since recrudescences of typhus were recorded as latQ as 50 yr.
after the first infection, the eradication oP typhus seems impossible during the
future years. A replacement of the lolled vaccine by a live attenuated strain of
