ABSTRACT: The catalase activity of the cells of Staphylococcus aureus cultures
graduall.y ceases in the course of fucidine adt,ptation. There is no enzyme induction
in the fucidine-fast cultures since the eqUilibrium. of the processes is shifted
toward catalase-independent oxidation mechanisms during the adaptation and, therefore~
fucidine has no influence on the respiration rate of the microorganisms undergoing 1

Abstract: Fulvoacids (FA) belong to the group of humic
acids; their chemical structure and physiologic
action are almost unknown. It is known that
they stimulate the growth of roots of plants
and activate cell respiration. There is a
great amount of FA in human feces. Peat FA have
successfully been used for some time to treat
various diseases of the gastro-intestinal tract

and liver in man FA, introduced perorally
(single dose 0.0~_0-15 g, daily 0 .25-0.5 g),
promotes the improvement of appetite, termina-
tion of nausea~ vomitingl regurgitation and
meteorism as well as intestinal and hepatic
colic. F1 promotes the normalization of -Che
secretion of gastric juice; by its acti3n dia-
rrheas cease quickly. Considering the benefi-
cial therapeutic effect of FA in various human
di Seases, experiments were conducted in order
to find its suitableness in veterinary science.
It was established that FA has no toxic effect.
It was established by serologic investigations
that the introduction of FA does notpromote the
formation of antibodies. It was shown in expe-
riments on mice, intoxicated with CC11+ M,
that FA protects the liver of animals against

the toxic effect of I to a considerable degree.
This has practical significance, since in sheep
and large cattle affection of the liver after
intramuscular introduction of a mixture of I
with paraffin oil is frequently observed. In
poisoning with hgaricus bulbosus, the liver Is
particularly strongly affected. Experiments
were conducted with mice (1f3) and rabbits (21)
to which an extract of Agaricus bulbosus was
introduced subcutaneously in various doses.
After it, to one group of animalsFA was intro-
duced (subcutaneously and internally) to the
other group, dimercaptopropanole was introduced
intramuscularly; a third, the control group,
was not subjected to treatment. All animals
of the third group perished while, of the ani-
mals which received FA, only 50% perished. It
was established by histologic investigetion

base) has been tested on cows treated in the field 6-12 timc3 over a 3-5
year period. Changes in the serma protein fractions, total serum bili-
rubin and liver function were investigatcd. After 'glaikghter, the 91to
of the injections, liver, endocrine glands, heart, kidney, ovarium, uterus
and the central nervous system were examIned histologically. Ch&nge6 !it
the protein fractions are considered reversible. No disturbances were
found in liver function. Lesions characteristic of oil granuloma were
found at the site of repeated injections retarding the absorption of the
active substance. The histological tests showed no lesions attributable
to the treatment, in the organs tested. On the average, 100,000 cattle
are being treated yearly by this method. Milk and meat production in-
creased and the number of liver rejectionsdecreased as a result of the
treatment. The use of Dlstoeain in amounts of 10 ml/100 Xg body wbight is
recommended with a maximal dosage of 50 ril for a single animal. 9 Western,

Between 1941 and 1956, 2. 5 to Y16 of all patients suffered from genital tb, the
usual percentage being only 0. 1 to 1. 5. This high incidence is mainly attributed to
the frequent diagnostic curettages of uterus, abscess wall and fistular canal,
which are never contraindicated when acute or subacute phenomena are no longer
present. Besides, examination of the menstrual blood is of value. Genital tb is
important from the point of view of public health, because it is an open form of tb.
In addition to spread of the infection to other people, there existE, the danger of in-
fection of the live stock by human tb. Out of 550 patients, 464 were =rried. Of
these, 74.30,'o had primary and 18. 31,'# secondary sterility. Abortion occurred in 51's
and extra-uterine pregnancy in 1. U16. Pregnancy coinciding with genital tb causes
a condition which is not without danger, especially It the disease r(,mained unre-
cognized so that no correct treatment could be applied. Sterility is nearly always
the firs, symptom, Of 171) sterlie women, 1101. had genital 1b. Therefore, pre-
marital examination must take into account this possibility. Drug treatment is to
be preferred, using isoniazid, PAS and streptomycin, and should preferably be
clinical. Surgery should be considered only if drug treatment has failed and severe
symptoms make it necessary. Surgical treatment should be supported by chemo-
therapy-, in most cases it will be necessary to remove the uterus and the tubes,
but the ovaries can usually be spared. at least partially.

TEXT: The main factors limiting the high frequency amplification
of junction transistors are the finite transit time in zhe base,
the junction capacitancesq and the base resistance. To increase the
frequency working rangep the base width may be reduced. Howeverg a
base width of a few p presents technological difficuities and increa-
ses the possibility of a breakdown. An appreciable reduction in the
transition time is achieved by creating a drift field by means of a
suitable distribution of the impurities in the base. This field ac-
celerates the minority carriers towards the collector. btarting from
the basic equations for the distribution of the majority carrier
density in the n-type base, an equation is derived for the distribu-
tion of Impurities in the base to produce a uniform fiel& It is
