Experimental animals with a body temperature of-' 3(1-32C could not be maintained at the height of 15000 m for longer than 2 minutes without artificial respiration. The pO2 decreased to 26% of the original level In the cortex and to 40T, In Lhe subcortex., The pulse rate I cre se'd to 141 beats n a minute, followed by a bradyeardia of 80 beats/minute. Moscow, 1963, 259-261 TOPIC' TAGS: acceleration stress, oxygen atmosphere, oxygen tension, brain. tissure, dog ABSTRIZT: Experiments were performed for the purpose of studying oxygen tension dynamics in braintissues during acceleration stress while breathing air and oxygen. Experiments were performed on dogs with electrodes permancntly implanted into their brain tissues. Oxygen tension was deter- mined by polarographic xnethod and expressed in relative magnitudes. At the Card 1/3 ACCESHON NR: AT4042690 same t:~me, EKG, EEG, an( ~neumograms were recorded. Animals were subject(ad to, accelerations of 2-12 g for periods of 1-3 min. Longitudinal as well as transverse acceleratio-,is were employed. The experiments performed indicate that during prolonged action of acceleration, the oxygenation of the i tissues of the brain is alwa3-s reduced, particularly during longitudinal accelerations in the head-pelvi3 position. This makes ii. possible to assume that in pathogenic changes induced by accelerations, hypoxia of the brain plays a significant role., This is ;confirmed by the fact that during action of acceleration up to 10 g, breetbing oxygen tends to maintzin the oxygen tension in brzan tissues-on a nearly nc=al level, significantly increasing tolerance to accelers.tion stress. At the same time, the relatively serious changes in the oKg~Lnjzra caused by accelera'licn stress, even when oxygen tension in brain tissues is maintained by brecAhing pure oxygen, indicate the presence of other faztors in the pathogenic picture induced by acceleration stress.
