ABSTRACT, In order to determine the structure of the copolymers of ncroleln with
vinylaryl. esters, assumed to be ~-phenoxy-3,4-dlhydroplratio, the IR spectra shown.
lin fig. 1 of the Enclosure were examined. There Is a good agreement between Spec-
tra 1 and 2, and the literature data on IR absorption for 2-plienoxy-3,4-dihydropi- I
ran.e. There aloo,is a good agreement between spectra 3 and 4. Similarly confirm-

ABSTBACT: In tile original paperp L*.Z. Lerner proposed some changes
in the composition of the coke oven department in order to
increase the number of ovens in one battery to 100. Ser-
vicing of such a battery would be carried out by one set
of coke oven machines. Accordir4,r to Lerner tile proposed
composition of the coke oven department: 4 batteries of
100 ovens each in com arison with the standard composition
(65 ovens per battem has the following advantages:- the
number of personnel required will renain the same as for
the standard battery but the labour productivity will in-
crease by 64.2% and the capital expenditure will be 10-12%
lower. The present authors consider that the advantages
k'.ard 1/2 Lerner expects are unfounded. To prove this point the
On the paper by R.Z. Lerner "On changes of the composition
of coke oven department in order to increase considerably
the number of ovens in a battery"'. (Cont'.) 68-5-6/1
authors quote labour requirements for the often practised
separation of 2 batteries with 90-110 ovens into an inde-
pendent unit (Table 1) and compare them with those stated
by Lerner (Table 2)'. A similar comparison for the labour
productivity of main coke oven craftsmen for 78-110 oven
units and 61-69 units is given in Table 2. Very approxi-
mate calculations indicated that the capital expenditure
will remain the same. The editorial office communicates
that Lerner's paper was disaussed during a special session
of Glavkoks with the participation of Giprokoks. In view
of the division of opinion Giprokoks was requested to de-
sign a coke oven department according to Lerner's proposals
and to prepare a technical-economical comparison with the
usual design. The final decision on the probl,em will be
published in this journal'. There are 3 tables.

ABSTRACT- In all newly erected and rebuilt plants of the coke by-pro-
duct industry, car dumpersj mostly of the stationary rotary
type have been set up. All operations in coal depots are
fully mechanized; they are supplied with one or several belt
conveyers and a bulldozer for the clearine; of the deDOt
area, The receiving capacity of a normal coal depot is bet-
ween 800 and 900 tons per hour, the issuing capacity between
370 and 385 tons per hour. The depot is served by 6 men.
During recent years many coke by-product plants have in-
troduced automatic production control and remote control o~
equipment. All valves at coal and coke loading points are
supplied with electric relay mechanisms of the types IMT
25/120 and IMT 10011120, The following additional mechaniza-

PERIODICkLt Izvestiya vysshikh uchebnykh zavedeniy., Khimiya i khimiche-
skaya tekhnelogiya, 1960, Vol, 3, No. 4, pp. 06 - 619
TEXT: This paper was read at thQ 1st Intercollegiate Conference on
21~1~ ~~, Moscow, April 20-25, 1959. The sorption of phosphate ions
on the anodic oxide film of aluminum haa not yet been studied sufficiently
(Ref. 13). For this reason, the authors carriid out experiments with
samples of aluminum sheet typeAA-1 (AD-1), which were anodically treated
2 0
in a sulfuric acid bath under standard conditions (D a = la/dm , t . 20 Ck
T = 20 min, CH 50 - 20%). Before th? treatment with phosphate solution,
2 4 2
the oxide film had a weight of 1.38 mg/cm , a thickness of 5.81.,,, a
porosity of nximatelY 30%, and a corrosion resistance of 16 min

aqueous solutions of Na2HPO 41 containing P 4 Sorption and desorption of
the phosphate ion was determined by means of AC-2 (AS-2) counter in a
0-2 (B-2) apparatus. The number of impulses per unit area was calculated
according to an equation by N. A. Balashova and N., S6 Merkulova (Ref. 16).
Fig. 1 shows the sorption of the phosphate ion at 10 C during 30 min as
a function of the phosphate concentration (0.007 - 0.280 mole/1). In the
entire concentration range investigated, the sorption increased with
increasing concentration of Na2HPO 4' A condition of equilibrium was not
obtained even after 200 h. Fig. 2 shows that sorption begins to rise
noticeably at temperatures of from 50 to 600C. It can be seen from Fig.. 3
that the phosphate content of the film increased quickly right at the
start, although a noticeable increase in weight set in only after about
10 hours. This is explained by the fact that an ion exchange takes place
at the start between the sulfate ions contained in the film and the
phosphate ions contained in the solution, and that a chemical. interaction

of the phosphate ton with the micelles of the film sets in only later.
Extraction by means of water, acetone, dioxane, covering of the film with
mineral oil and subsequent extraction with acetone did not lead to a
desorption of the phosphate ion, The desorptive effect of various salts
dissolved in water is tabulated. While C1 - and Br ions do not desorb,
the film is destroyed by sodium fluoride and sodium citrate, and an
exchange of the HPO 2- ions contained in the film sets in with SO 2-_ and
2- 4 4
CrO4 ions. The authors mention a paper by V, A., Kistyakovskiy (Ref, 7).,

ABSTRACT: This paper preaents experimental data and theoretical discussion on the
,phenomenon of vibrooroop in polymeric materials. The experimental procedure con-
sisted of applying a vibrator7 stress to a specimen under a static stress and deter-
mining the resultant creep E as a function of time. A schematic of the experimental
setup is given, and the experimental resii1ts are presented graphically. The ex-

ABSTRACTt It was noted earlier that recombination radisttion is very sensitive to the
magnetic field in which the semiconductor studied Is placed: the intensity of radia-
tion arising during recombination of carriers Injected by light decreased with in-
creasing magnetic field. In the present study, which constitutes an )Ktonsion of this
work, it was observed that the depondo 'nco of the intensity of reconbination radiation

The quantity changes sign. In addition, it was noted that in the presencel
