TITLE: Determining the dynamic characteristic of an electro.,
magnetic control element
PERIODICAL: Priborostroyeniye, no. 12, 1961, 1-4
TEXT: This paper introduces a simplified method of plotting a fre-
quency response characteristic of certain types of electromagnetic
control devices. in many cases the accuracy of the characteristic
constructed by this method is completely adequate. The analytical
solution of the equation of motion and of the static characteristic of
such an element can be quite laborious, wherium the empirical derivation
of thestatic characteristic is comparatively easy. Using the experi-
mental characteristic, the constant coefficients of the static equation
can be determined as well as the coefficients of the equation of motion.
An example is worked out for an electromagnetic control element

consisting of an armature, control winding, magnet and an exciting wind-
ing, whose static characteriatic'is known. Having a complex expression
for the amplification factor, the real aind the imaginary parts are worked
out and the calculated coefficients of the equation of motion are sub-
stituted into the resulting expression. In this way, by the method of
Ye. P. Popov (Ref. 4,. Dinamika sistem avtomaticheskogo regulirovanya,
Gostekhizdat, M. 1954), the amplitude phase characteristic of the control
element is determined (Fig. 3), where the curve A is obtained by calcu'.
lation and the curve B - experimentally. Utilizing the approximate me-
thud of plotting it is sufficient to upe the basic points on the curve.
fhese points are-, The initial point of the curve; the point corresponding
to the natural frequency of oscillations; the point of cross-section
of the curve with thQ imaginary axis jv and the condition of deformation
of the curve in the horizontal direction to the right and left of the
jv axis. The straight line Uv1 is the characteristic line in the con-
struction of the frequency rezponse characteristic. The condition that
the curve does not extend to the right of the line U-~! is given, If

this condition is infringed, the curve is deformed and extends to the
right of the line U=lo In order to plot the curve, the values of the
frequencies corresponding to the two maximum values of Us as well as
the abscissae themselves, are found by differentiation and subsequent
substitution into the real part of the characteristic. The corresponding
ordinates can also be found. The point of croon-section of the curve
with jv is found from the condition U=O. The point of the natural fre-
quency of oncillationsis also determinedo Thus several basic points ar
obtained. They are sufficient to plot an approximate amplitude-phase
characteristic. There are 3 figureal I table and 4 Soviet-bloc referen-

TEXT: Electromagnetic control elements which are described were
developed in order to obtain improved dynamic and static characte-
ristics, reduced weight and dimensions, and a possibility of use
in vibrational mode. The design is shown; the armature is held i
a neutral position by two springs and can move to either side under
the action of two electromagnetic systems. Parts of the magnetic
oircuit are in Armco steel. The linearity of the pulling charaote-
ristic and high frequency of self-oscillations were regarded as ba-
sic premises of the design; cylindrical armature with conical faces
and conical pole pieces of the yoke provides the linearity of the
characteristic; the weight is reduced by joining both electromagne-

aions of the parasitic gap were so chosen as to obtain minimum mag-

TEXT: The sensitivity of nozzle-flap hydraulic amplifierst under
various operating conditions, is considered. Basic rules are given
for selection and calculation of parameters, so as to obtain maxi-
mum sensitivity under set conditions. For normal operating condi-
tionsp the amplifier sensitivity is expressed by the derivative

called the pressure gain coefficient; p, is the working pressure of
the liquid in the inter-valve chamber, and y - the angle of rota-
tion of the flap. K is differently determined for various operat-

ing conditions, and has different maximum numerical values. Three
types of raost commonly met operating conditions are considered. A
table lists the formulas for K p (for the 3 types of operating condi-
-tions), its maximum value, the conductivity ratio 6 and the princi-
pal parameters of the amplifier. The formulas for Kp, listed in the
table, are analyzed and the relative merits of each type of operat-
ing conditions are ascertained. Analysis of the formulas for K p VIP
~;ith type 3 operating conditions; the initial gap ho between the
nozzle and flap is given, as well as the discharge Qo of the work-
ing liquid through the valve with variable passage), permits deter-
mining the limiting values of 6 and of the pressure pj on the basis
of actual conditions. Thusp with 6 = 2, K p is 20 % be ow its maxi-
mum value, whereas with 6 = 3, only by 10 %. Hence, in designing
nozzle-flap amplifiers, it is not necessary to exceed the value 6
3. The corresponding limiting value of po = 1OP103 (where P103 is
determined by the formula 8 = V - 1). The above formula3
permit designing amplifiers with maximum sensitivity under given

:ABSTRACT: The operation of a nozzle -flapper hydro intentiificr is theoretically i
:examined: the effect of the working-fluid temperature on the pressure and rate-of-
Irlow gains is studied. It is found that the temperature-effect cornpensation is hardly
4r casible; hence, these remedial measures are suggested; (1) The throttle's rate -6r-
flow should not depend on Re, i.e. , the restriction orifice must be ol such Bize that
the flow is turbulent; the nozzle orifice must create a sudden flow expansion;.(2) The:
:intensifier must be so adjusted that the nozzle-flapper operates in the large-opening 1
.region where the flow factor is stable; or else, the Re number must exceed its
'critical value. Orig. art. has: 3 figures and 2 formulas.
