ABSTRACT: The principle of current modulation by beam deflection is discussed. A
circuit is described which consists of two flat capacitors lying in a single plane
and separated by a narrow gap. The modulation characteristics of this type of system
depend on the transverse dimensions of the beam and on the ratios of the capacitor
voltages. Exact and approximate equations are derived for the modulation characteris
ties and data are given which may be used to evaluate the error of the approximate
formulas. A system consisting of three flat capacitors is also considered. H. 0.

imposed on hepatic cirrhosis in a boy aged 8 yr. occurring after recurrent epidemic
hepatitis. The authors consider the various morphogenctic stages of the development
of the initial licpatodystropliic process to liver cirrhosis and of ilic degeneration of tile
lattcr to carcinoma. This case is the first in a child to be described in the international

Timely and correct treatment with penicillin is useful in preventing the develop-
ment of acute glomerular nephritis, rheumatic fever and myocardial injury after
streptococcal pharyngitis. In 114 children treated with penicillin (oral penicillin,
pendepon. DBED-penicillin in mixtures or injectable preparations) there was not
one observable case of glomerular nephritis, rheumatic polyarthritis or endo-
carditis within 3 to 6 weeks. Five cases showed ECG changes, of which 4 develop-
ed after pharyngitis in which 0-haemolytic streptococcus was found, but these ran
their course without subjective complaints from the affected children. Only in one
case were there ECG changes of sufficient degree to enable a diagnosis, according
to modern criteria, of an injured myocardium of a rheumatic type.

Abstract The effect of antabuse (:L) upon fluctuations of the level
of the volatile substances in the blood was studied on 12
patients ruffering from alcoholisti. Detemination was ef-
fected by Widmrk's nothod. It was found that under the
influence of A without adatnistration of alcbhol, the level
of volatile substances in the blood increases up 1.o 0.13-
0.35 percent. Following the administration of mmall amounts
of alcohol, A was increasing the level of volatile substances
in the blood to a greater degree than the sa--e doses of al-

ABSTRACT: A new, 90-km long, wide gage railroad between Matovce, Trebisov and
Haniska in Eastern Slovakia has been under construction since 1963 with a construc-
tion deadline of 1 May 1966. The State Institute for Transp6rtation Projects (SUDOP)
and Soviet experts designed and drew up the construction work. The present paper
deals in detail with the problems of the project, the production of prefabricated
components and their installation. It includes an outline of contemporary Soviet
construction methods of railroad bridges, with technical details on culverts, load-
bearing and substructures of bridges, manufacturing methods, transportation and
install.ation of bridges in various terrains, and economic considerations. Graphic
material shows detailed cross sections and photographs of several bridges; one of
the tables presents data on load-bearing structures of Soviet railroad bridges. Ori

ABSTRACT: The systematic errors dependent on the approximation of the
sinplified correction formula are found and the -maximum values
for the coordination of the external orientation of tilted
aerial photo,;raphs as well as the relief olov~.tion3 on stereo-
scopic photo-raphs, where these errors can 3till be ne6lecte4,
are determined. First the relation between the coordin-tes of
the map and those of the horizontal aerial photo~;rz.,Ph in inves-,
-i,;ated. The formula for tho correction of the atz;cisaa in the
map (4) and the formula for the correction of the displacement
