ABSTRACT: The institutions concerned complain that they are not able to
meet the demands made by laboratories. Therefore these institutes
are forced to produce the vessels necessary for laboratory use
theme-91ves. The produntion of standard accessories and equipment
is too much for the firms concerned and they are unable to carry
out orders at a time that is determined in advance. However,
A.M. KudrYavtsev's apparatus for the glass blowing industry,
which is used for spherical grinding, could be delivered in such
quantities as were partly able to meet existing demands. The next
problem to be solved by scientific institutes is therefore that
of obtaining sufficient quantities of laboratory accessories and
equipment.

TITLE: Economic Analysis of the Effect of the Properties of
Solvents on the Separation of 1,3-Butadieneiby
Extraction Rectification

ABSTRACT: The separation of the C4 hydrocarbon fraction, which is
important in the manufacture of butadiene rubber, can be
carried out by extraction rectification, using polar
liquids which are selective for hydrocarbons with lower
degree of saturation. Furfural, containing 4% of water
(aqueous furfural), has been used by various authors for
separating 1,3-butadiene (Refs 1 to 4). The authors
investigated the possibility of using as solvent a
mixture of acetone, containing 18% of water (aqueous
acetone) and bis (2-chloroethyl) ether ("chlorex") (Ref
Flow sheets for both methods are given (Pigs 1 and 2).
The effect of the solvents on the relative volatility
of the hydrocarbons, on the solubility of the hydro-
carbons in the solvents, and on their properties under
industrial conditions were compared (Table 1). The

corrosive and thermal properties of the solvents and the
solubility of liquid hydrocarbons, Cost estimates for
machinery when using aqueous acetone, aqueous furfural
and chlorex are compared in Tables 2 and 3. Data on
power consumption per ton of butadiene are compared in
Table 4. The authors conclude that aqueous acetone is
most satisfactory from an economical point of view, in
spite of the fact that its use involves a more complicated
technological process. There are 2 figures, ? tables
and 9 references, 2 of which are Czech, 6 English and
1 Soviet.

In It patients there wits a saddle deformation of the nose. in 8 patients the graft
was used as a nap support (in the majority or cases for the reconstruction of the
ear) and in 8 patients there were deformations in other parts of the face. The pa-
tients were followed up regularly during the first year after operation and then
after one to 4yr. On in average the results were very good in 70% of the cases:
the graft healed and served its purpose perfectly. In only 4 cases was the graft
rejected or absorbed. The event& which occur in the host organism after the im-
plantation of homoplastic cartilage grafts, fresh as well as preserved. are dealt
with and a theoretical basis for the 'takes' of cartilage hornotransplants is offered.
Cartilage homotransplatits are recommended for the filling out of depressions In
the face, especially for saddle nose, as a method of choice. They are also recom-
mended in cases where it is necessary to use quite a large graft, where the cor-
rectton of facial contours is contemplated in stages (herniatrophy. in chUdren
etc. . and wherever It to impossible to obtain autoplastic grafts. Transplant-
ation for the purpose of supporting skin pedtcle flaps is considered less suitable.
