Influence of the Ambient Atmosphere on the Surface Conductivity
of silicon
it is stated that the type of conductivity can be determined in
certain cases by means of the oxygen atmosphere. The conductivity
increases monotonously with increasing oxygen content in the
atmosphere in tho case of type p junctions and decreases
monotonously with increasing oxygen in the atmosphere in the
case of type n junctions. Increase in the humidity brings
about a monotonous increase in the surface conductivity for
type n junctions, whilst for type p junctions it brings
about a drop at first until a certain minimum in reached and
from then onwards the surface conductivity increases. P-type
junctions are more stable with respect to humidity than n-type
junctions. n-p-n transistors from p-silicon with a specific
resistance of 10 ZI cm are practically stable with respect to
humidity. There are 6 figures and 4 references: 2 Czech,
I Soviet and 1 English.

ABSTRACT: An Author Certificate has been issued for a method of manufacture of a,
di-ftision silicon element by a two-phase difusnion process. The element
p-type
base consists or two alMeren-t -conductivity layers vhere the layer of lower conduc-
tivity is adjacent to the region of the collector, while the layerof higher conduc-
tivity is clooe to the region of the emitter. The p-type conductivity region to
created by a two-phase diffusion process, with constant temperature of the preheated
silicon plate during each phase. The first diffusion phase takes place 1200-1350C
for a period of 15 min to 5 oxide heated to T50 -- 200C Is used an the
doping compound in an amount cdphLble of evaporating in one quarter of the given time,
After the completion of the first phase, the plate temperature is lowered to 900 --
1250C at which temperature the aecond phase diffusion takes place in a period of
15 min to 2 hr, again with gallium oxide as the doping couTound heated to 800 -- 1200(

ABSTRACT: Ignition equipment, especially for use with aircraft jet and turboprop
engines, is introduced. It has a low-voltage spark plug and is fed by d-c supply.
The secondary winding of the induction coil is comiected through the rectifier to the
capacitor. The sparking circuit is connected in parallel to the capacitor and
connected in series with the low-voltage spark plug. One end of the primary winding_
of the induction coil is connected to the first pole of the d-c supply. The other end

A review of th'e neurological pictures of dermatomyositis and differential diagnostic
possibilities is given. In the majority of cases there are myogenic nervous si,-n3.
rarely it is a true dermatoneuromyesitis with involvement of peripheral or central
nervous system. A case is reported of-dermaLtoneuromyositis following a salmonel-
losis, priratyphold (ever B. with widespread changes in the skin. muscles and
organs. Later a severe polyradiculoneuritic syndrome of Guillain-Darrd's type
developed; the course resembled Landry's ascending paralysis. The EEG showed
diffuse changes In cortex activity. An acute dilatation of the stomach was an un-
expected complication. 7berapeutically cortisone failed; a dramatic Improvement
occurred foilowing ACTH. (VUI, 13)

Abstract A viscometer, test method, and formula for the determina-
tion of the viscosity of glass at 500-650P are described.
The method is based on the measurement of the elongation
of a wire prepared from the glass tube tested. The wire,
with a 2.5-500 gms weight attached to one end, is suspen-
ded in the furnace. The elongation of the wire is mea-
sured with a microscope from the displacement of the heat
resistant alloy weight suspended from the wire. The tem-
perature of the vire is measured by a thermocouple which

TITUt f Low-Carbon Steels in Protective Carbon Dioxide Atmos-
phere I
PERIODICAL; Strojirenakh vyroba, 1960, No. 9, pp. 442 - 444
TEXTs This Is a description of methods and tools tested In ~he CSR for arc
welding of low-carbon steels in protective C02 atmosphere. Short arcs and high
current densities are essential for this welding method. The length of the arc
is controlled by the d-c source; however, the control Is rather difficult, es-
pecially when sources have steep characteristics. Best results were achieved
with "S 500 A" selenium rectifiers produced by the "CKD" Plant In Mod~any (Photo
1). Automatic tools for submerged-arc weldina*r-- applicable also for welding
In protective C02 atmosphere ("SUM" apparatus shown in Photo 2), when they have
a modified headpiece for a sufficient CO,) supply to both, the welding bath and
the melting electrode. The modified heaaptece contains an adjuster through which
electrodes with diameters of 1.2, 1.6, 2 or 2.4 mm are continuously fed to the
tip, and a connection for a C02 gasline, the flow of which is directed by a

nozzle. An insulating ring and lining provide for separation of the electric
elements. The "T 350" torch for welding with a tung3ten electrode In argon at-
mosphere. (Photo 3) can also easily be adjusted for semiautomatic are welding In
C02 atmosphere. Electrodes used In the USSR for welding low-carbon steel sheets
have the following composition: up to 0.1% C; 0.6 - 0.85% S11- 1~4 - 1.7% Mn;
less than 0.03% Al; up to 0.03% S; up to 0.035% P; up to 0.2% Cr. up to 0.25%
Ni; and up to 0.25% Cu. Electrodes used for the welding of thick metal sheets
(eventually of steel alloy) have the following compo3ition: up to 0.1% Ci 0.75
- o.95% si: 1.8 - 2.1% Mn; and with Al, 3, P. Cr, Mi and Cu perceTTtages simLlAr
to those in the above listed electrode. The "VZKGP Combine in Ostrava started
the production of electrodes 1.6 mm in diameter which have the following compoed-
tion; 0.12% C; 1.26% Mn, 0.92% SI; 0.021% P; 0.012% S; 0.14% Cu; 0.09% M;
and 0.17% Cr. The C02 used must have a minimum purity of 99.7%. The N content
must not exceed 0.1%. C02 used in the USSR contains approximately 0.05 - 0.156
water, while C02 used in the OSR can contain as much as 0.4% water. The welding
speed depends on the current intensity, the speed of the electrode feed on its
diameter. The dependence of the weldlng current on the electrode-feed ratio is
shown in Figure 4. A current of 450 amp is achieved with a 2.4 mm electrode fed

Welding of Low-Carbon Steels in Protective Carbon Dioxide Atmosphere
at a rate of 3 m/min or with a 1.6 mm electrode fed at a minimum rate of 8 M/min.
The welding current Influences chiefly the width and depth of the weld, The
longer the are, the shallower Is the heat penetration. The relation between the
welding output (deposit In kg/h) and on the feed ratio of 1.6 and 2.4 no elec-
trodes Is shown in Figure 5. At constant feed, losses by spraying and evapora-
tion are decreasing with Increasing welding current, but increasing with increas-
ing arc tension. Successful test welds In protective C02 atmosphere with good
penetration of 14 mm thick material are shown in ground sections of a butt joint
(Photo 6) and a fillet weld (Photo 7). In conclusion, the author lists several
advantages and disadvantages of welding in protective C02 atmosphere. There are
2 figures and 5 photos.
