SOY/2o-121-2-36/53 TITLE: 1--CT'l-matio-legularities Underlying the Distribution of Iron and Aluminium Deposits Over the Surface of the Earth (Klima- ticheskiye zakonomernosti. sovremennogo razmeshcheniya mestoro- zhdeniy zheleza i aluminlya na Zemle) PERIODICAL: Doklady Akademii nauk SSSR, 1958, Vol- 121. lir 2, pp. 326 - 329 (USSR) AB.'~TRACT: Owing to their geochemical relation these two elements migrate and accumulate together also under different climatic conditions. In the tropics they form mixed hypogenic deposits in form of a lateritic orust; this latter is destroyed in horizontal and vertical direction in the case of climatic changes. Then Pleistocene clastic lake and maritime deposits of oolitic iron ores and bauxites are formed. They form the subject at discussion in this article. Effusive sedimentary deposits not connected genetically are noqdiscuseed. The author gives a survey of the long history of the study of this subject (Refs 1-6, 8-10). The author used the maps Card 1/4 by 1T.M.Strakhov and L.B.Rukhin in order to gain an idea Cli2atii,, Regularities UnderlyiM the Dintribution SOV/2o-121-2-36/53 of rron and Aluminium Deposits Over the Surface of the Earth with respect to the location of the mentioned hypogerietio deposits for various periods of the history of the earth. For this purpose T.I.Zotova entered the old position of the equator and the poles on the map of the et.rth. Imaginary positions of the pendulation axis of the equatorial plane (Areas of Sumatra, Central America) are clearly marked. The equatorial and pole positions in the Silurian, Triassic and Jurassic age may easily be interpolated in this diagram (Fig 1). The analysis of the equator p)sition makes possible a derivation of the regularities mentioned in the title. They are based on the connection between climate and the genetic types of iron and aluminium deposits. It was found that laterite deposits form in tropic climate while those of elastic iron ores and bauxites as well as of oolites are formed in subtropical climate and to a lower degree in a moderately warm climate by a washing out of the crust. On the surface of the planet there are two ore-free ovals around the north and south pole. They are limited by polar circles. The formation of laterite took place in the course Card 2/4 of the whole history of the earth from the Cambrian onward. Climatic Regularities Underlying the Dintribution SOV/2o-121-2.36/53 of I-ron and Aluminium Deposits Over the Surface of the Earth The tropical climate prevailed for different portuda In the equatorial ring; it lasted longeat within the rnriges of the pendulation axes where it has exiuted up to our days. There the laterite ovust is thickest (to 150 m). At the places of intersection of the equatorn cf older timeLk the chance to find laterite crust is smallest. In their place the deposits of maritime oolitic iron ores or ores of the clastic, type must be found there. Such ore-formingno&iwar" northern France, South England, Western Gormany(Severnaya Frantaiya, Yuzhnaya Angliya, Zapadnaya Germaniya) where equators of the upper Paleozoic, Cretaceous- and Paleogene periods intersect. The zones of the tropics of Cambrian are very rich in iron ore and bauxite, just as well as the $ilurian and Devonian ones in Scandinavia (Skandinavakiy poluostrov), Ural (Ural) -rd Siberia (Sibirl) on the one hand, and in the Uffk(MA) as well as in Greenland (Grenlandiya) on the other hand. turther examples for the suggested theory are mentioned. Besides the two ore-less ovals there exists a circular ore-bearing zone on the Card 3/4 earth,- as may be seen. There are 1 figure and 10 references, Cli-,atic Regularities Underlying the Dintribution S07/2c.-121-2 -36/53 of Iron and Aluminium Deposits Over the Surface of the Earth 6 of which are Soviet.
