Title :On the Significance of the Biological Value of 1.4-ilk for
Producing Flarmentation.
Orig Pub :Molochn, prom-at', 1957.. No. 6., W-42
Abstract :In order to study the biological value of milk, a pure
culture of Str. diacetilactis (strain 3)) which is widely
used in the dairy induatryp was utilized. The culture was
introduced into the milk in the amount of 5%. The quality
of the milk was determined according to the increase of the
acidity and evaluation of the fermentation products which
were formed) namely: volatile acids, others) acetoin, and
diacotyl. The work was affected with the milk of cows
provided by the herd of the Timiryazev Agricultural Academy.

Aseptic milk from 6 cove was investigated individually,
as wore similar swiploB of pasteurized and sterilized
railk from three groups of cows) the rations of which dif-
fored in the quality of concentrates (linseed oil meal,
cottonseed and ollcake meals),, along with samples of the
milk of animals affected with mastitis, brucellosisy and
foot-and-mouth disease. The milk of the individual cows
differed in biological properties. In the accumulative milk
of the experimental groups, the individual properties of the
milk were obliterated. The samples of tbia milk wore oblite-
rated. The s=plos of the milk taken from the sick animals
exhibited weak activity. In the selection of milk for tbo
production of yeasts, it Le necessary to take Into conside-
ration the biological value, of it as a medium for the devel-
opi3ent of the Lactobacilli

The author studied the morphology of blood in a group of healthy animals and in
32 rats which had been subjected to denervation prior to infection with leprosy.
Examination of the blood revealed anaemia and moderate transient leucocytosis
with a shift to the left. Rate with the cutaneous- muscular form of leprosy showed
morphological changes in the blood approaching those seen in human leprosy. (S)

PERIODICAL: Zavodskaya Laboratoriya, 1958, Vol. 24, Nr 7, PP- 790 - 793

ABSTRACT: The methods hitherto described have not permitted sufficiently
accurate observations. As, besides, no method for the quanti-
tative separation of these elements has been described, ex-
periments were conducted which showed that a mixture of alcohol
and of inorganic acids, used as a tr~jisport fluid, permits to
separate U and V from Fe. It is, however, not possible to
separate the three elements from each other. In this method, a
circle chromatography is employed, using a mixture of glacial
acetic acid and nitrous acid in a proportion of 95:5. The
chromatographic paper (Nr 3 and 4) was subjected to a pre-
treatment. In the determination a special arrangement was used,

a small tubo, which is stuffed with scraps of filter paper
directly to the center of the paper, placed between two glass
plates in an exeiccator. The duration of chromatography is
given to be from 7 to 6 hours. A 5% calium ferrocyanide
soluti,)n was used as a reagent. Parallel with these experiments
qualitative determinations employing the method of upward
chromatography were carried out. The results are given. It
appears from the description of the quantitative determination
that from the out-out pape.r pieces uranium was determined
vanadometrically, iron colurimetrically and vanadium also
colorimetrically by the phQaphorue-tungetenate method. The
content of iron should not exceed from 700 to 8001', whereas
vanadium may be present in amounts of from 2 - 3 mg , as part
of it remains in the filter paper of the tube and must be
determined separately according to the principles of the method.
The results showed that the method is applicable in quantitative
determinations with amounts of from 5 - 550j'uranium, 50 - 750e
iron, and up to 2,5 mg vanadium and more in the mixture.

ABSTRACT, A study of the block copolymerization of chloroprene with vinylphenyl,
vinyl-o-cresyl, vinyl-m-cresyl and vinyl-p-cresyl ethers at 60C, Initiated with
0.2 wt.% azodiisobutyronitrlle, which has not previously been described In the
literature, showed that the rate of copolymerization depends markedly on the corn-
po5ition of the Initial mixtures and Is considerably lower than the rate of poly-
merization of chloroprene for all Initial monomer ratios studied. Regardless
of the composition of the Initial mixture, all the resulting copolymers had a
C.bhghIigntent of chloroprene, and the amount of the vlnylaryl other In the c0-

polymer was not higher than 20-25 mol-%. 'The relationship between the degree of
copolymerization of chloroprene and vinylphenyt other and the reaction time for
different compositions of the Initial mixture is Illustrated. The dependence of
the degree of polymerization on the concentration of either azodiisobutyronitrile
or benzoyiperoxide was also Investigated. OrIg. art. has: 2 figures and 4

Title : On Changes In Lymph Nodes In Cancer.
Orig Pub : Sob. 7.drPvookhr. Kirgizii, 1956, 1, 28-32
Abstract : A seauence of' the changes in the anatomic chain of lymph
nodes was studied in cases of cancer of the breast (26
cacen), of the stomach (7) and of the tongue (2). The
presence of metsstase5 in lymph nodes did not always, cor-
respond to the sequence of their anatomical location (in
23 of 37 eaces under study). A histologic study of lymph
nodes revealed hyperplasia of the reticular tissue in 44
of the casea; In some of them, destruction of cancer cells
in the marginal sinu,3en was obaerved. The absence of reac-
tion on the nirt of reticular and lymphoid tissues when
cancer cells were present In the lymph nooes was noted in

In lymph nodes was ob3erved. Evidently, fibrosis In the
lymph nodes does not ordinarily Interfere with the deve-
lopment of metastases therein.
