ABSTRACT: The following apparatus are shortly dencribedi
Apparatuo c~ 311 is a stationary ultrasonic j:enerator with a
fixed frequency of 800 kilocycloo. The maximum acoustic power
is 10 W. The power can be reg-ulated stepwise.

is an universal renerator which supplivs an ultrasonic
oncillationi ViLriabla within a wide ranCe. It is mainly
dc3iLned for research. This apparatus has 3 ultrasonic
radiators connistine of ceramic piezoelf--,f~nta (barium
titunatu) which'operate within the rant:oa 420 + 20, 670 + N
and 2400 + 100 kilocycle5. 2

fix,t~,d frequency of 812,5 + 10 kilocyclen. 2he r3urface of the
ultrasonic radiator is 16-cm2. In continuous operation the
applaratus supplies a maximum, of 3 '10'/cm2. The appa,-atus is
mounted on rollers and i3 suited for therapy rork. If foreign
a-,~paratus are compared nith those made in Russia the former
have an advantaZe only as regards their outer forn and their
stability of construction.

:The above strategy is called optimal for point x, and vW is called the win func-

trolled chains is proved, and a method for constructing a mixed optimal Markov
strategy is given for this case. A mixed (uniform) Markov strategy is defined and

the conditions given for it to be an optimal mixed strategy. It is proved that the!
inclusion of mixed strategies in the set of permissible strategies does not in-
crease the value of the win function. Also, if an optimal strategy exists for a
given point, then there existsi a pure optimal strategy for that point. If the set
of permissible controls is finite, then an optimal strategy exists. It is further
shown that the controls on a given set may be fixed without diminishing the win
function. Two examples illustrate the method described for ascertaining the opti
strategy. Ili express my sincere gratitude to E, B. Dynkin and A. I. Shiryaev for

ABSTRACT: In this paper the author uses the methods of the theory of AMarkovian

ABSTRACT: The author analyzes the Markov process X in a Euclidean space
constructed for each elliptic differential operator L of the second order with a
continuous principal component. It is shown that X is a quasi-diffusional process
with the corresponding differential operator equal to L. The infinitesimal opera-
tor of the X part in a domain with a smooth boundary is described completely in
terms of Sobolev's spaces. The author thanks Ye. B, Dynkin for his guidance of
the study. Orig. art. has: 15 formulas. [Based on author's abstract) [NTJ

TITLE. On the possible reasons of heterogeneous (catalytic
surface) properties of acid and basic catalyst-
dielectrics
PERIODICALs Kinetika i kataliz, v.2, no.5, 1961, 674-678
TEXTs The article contains the third and final part of a paper
by O.V.Krylov and Ye.A.Fokina which was presented at the Second
Congress on Kinetics and Catalysis held in Moscow in 1960 as well
as the discussions on the paper by G.I.Levi and V.E.Vasserberg.
The first two parts were published previously (Ref.1 and 2:
Kinetika i kataliz, V.1, 1960, 4211 v.1, ig6o, 542). The problem
of the origin and causes of the non-uniformity of catalytic surface
properties of semiconductor catalysts were examined by many
previous workers but, in the author's opinion, there have been no
investigations of the causes of heterogeneity of the surface
properties of acidic and basic oxide catalysts. Following a
summary of the previously considered case of iso-propyl alcohol
decomposition in the adsorbed layer on A1203, CaO and ZnO catalysts,

an analysis is made of the mechanism of acid-base catalysed
dehydroxylation of alcohols and an expression As derived for the
polarization function of the medium in an ionic crystal from which
a cation ie removed (polarization function -1/2 etp, wheree is the
dielectric permeability and v the potential in the centre of
hole left after removing of the charge due to polarization).
Even a small change in the dielectric permeability a of the
catalyst or its surface layer is sufficient for producing a
significant change in the activation energy E and, consequently
the velocity of the catalysed reaction. Reasons are discussed
for differences in the values of e at various points of the
catalyst7s surface layer. Strongly acidic and basic catalysts
have high values of e and therefore lead to large variations in
the energy of activation which contains the expression 4 1/2 ey.
However, the heterogeneity effect for such catalysts is not very
high and, in fact, it can be shown that strongly acidic and basic
catalysts have a relatively narrow distribution band in terms of
the activation energy (only 9 kcal/mol for dehydroxylation of
isopropyl alcohol), The distribution range of the Activation

energy was, In fact, found experimentally to be narrower for CaO

Data obtained by electron-microscopic and electrono-

Title : 'Raflio-chemical Investigation of secondary reactions of
catalytic craoking of h7drocarbons
Periodical : Dokl, All SSSRt 96p 7SI - 784, June 1954
Abstract I The radio-chemical Me'thods of Investigating the secondary
reactions of catalytic cracking, consist In the simultane-
ous Introduction into the reactor of the hydrocarbon to be
cracked, plus one 9~,tha cracking products marked with ra-
dioactive carbon C" and, consequent, radlometr1c analysis
of the basic cracking products. Experiments show, that
the conversion of the hydrocarbon molecules, In conditions
of catalytic cracking, are not completed during one process
