TITLE., Viscosity of Liquid Hydrogen Sulfide
PERIODICAL': Acta Phynica Polonica, 1959, Vol 10, Nr 5, PP 523-526 (Poland)
ABSTRACT: The authors inveatigated the viscosity (which in closely related
to nuclear spin relaxation processes) of H 2S under the pressure
of its saturated vapor in the temperature range from -11.50C to
500C. The production of 11 2S in described. A closed typo
pressure resistant Ontwald viscometer was used all parts of
which vioro made of glass tubinpo. 'Ihia viscoLietor was inserted
into a thick-walled glass tube through which water from the
thermostat wan allowed to flow. Temporature was measured with
an accuracy of 0.10C by means of a calibrated glass-morcury
tho=omoter placed within the outer tube. Ostwald's formula
(after kinetic onergy corrections) was used for computinrr,
viscosity. In order to estimate the systematic errors, the
viscometer was tented with carefully purified ethyl other
(Table 1). Results are in good agreement with those taken from
Lanaolt-Urnatein (1955), p '198. The viscometer was calibrated
Card 1/2 with different volumes of distilled water-at 200C (viscosity

Viscosity of Liquid Hydrogen Sulfide POL/45-18-5-9/11

The Reynolds number for 112S at 200C and 500C wan 2040 and
2650, respectively. The authors thank Professor
H. Miewodniczafiski, PhD, for rendering the pronont viork possible
at his laboratory, and S. Moroz for having produced the
visoomotor, There are 1 figure, 2 etablon, and 8 references.

Abstract: The total and direct copper levels as 'well as the activity of
ceruloplasmin were determined in 1,OOD fattening~ pit:s at slaushter age.
Figh total and direct levels of copper wore found. Coruloplasmin activity
in pig s-arum is high, and its enzymatic activity is closely -related
to the indirect copper level.

Die authors de3cribe five types of R. prowazeki strains, the difference beirv,, based
on their vl~-.,ulence for lice and on the behavioua of infocted lice. Daring repeated
J.'assages through lice each strain showed variations in the degree of virulence.
Tie cau3e of this phenomenon is obscure, but it was definitely found that it was
not caused by the season as was supposA by some authors. This agrees witil the
war experiences of Penson, ffirszfold and S-.ejrL-mn. The cotirso of Infection in lice
-Aependa upon the Infactin~,, dose. large doses (1-2 milliard micro-organisms In I Ial.,
cacti louse receiving I mg. 6 this suspension) are toxic and cause death in 3-2-4 triurs
(toxic course). 5-10 times smaller doses give the Inormal course': after 2-3 days the
initially Infected cells of the intestine burst, giving a secondary Lafection of the
remaining cells, usually of a lower deLrree. The sma.1lest dose still Infective, Is
according to Weigl: 100,000 rickettsiae in 1 ml. The infection in the lice can be
seen by their reddening. The authors use for the evaluation of the degree of in-
fectivity of their rickettsial ausl;onsions the linilex of reddening, i.e. the FOrcent-
age of Infected red lice divided by the number of days It took the- to become red.
The decrease of virulence of suspensions held in vitro at 4 40 C. was very varied.
At /- 210f 214, 340 C- the decrease of virulence was accelerated, but it was depen-
dent, to a high degree, upon the concomitant action of light. In the dark the
Anfluence of temperature (44 as against 42-40 C.) was very' slight; If iny.
susceptibility of the rickettsiae to light was very marked, but vnried with different
