TOPIC TAGS: dielectric materialp electron mobility, electric conductivity
ABSTRACT: The article diecusnes one of the properties and parazietere having an ef-
fect on the change of the property investigated of organic dielectrics: the con-
duction of direct electric current. Particular attention Is given to the essence
of the conduction mechanism of electric current in solid dielectrics, since pre-
viously published articles of a purely technological character concerned vith the
electrical properties of substances fail to do so, nor do they discuss the basic
reasons for the change in conductivity. In the case of polymers containing double
bonds, i.e., with mobAle if electrons, the conduction mechanism has been consider-
ably less inveatigated than In the case of organic crystalUne substances. It Is
attempted to explain the conduction mechanism of organic dielectrics by resort1bg
to the band model and by treating two extreme cases, vIz.p when organic dielectrics

do and do not contain nwbile Ir electrons. It is concluded that the basic paras$.
eters causing conduction in organic dielectrics my be put into two groups: 1)
structural parwaeters determining the nature of carriers and traps; 2) external
parameters (coercive factors) affecting the operation of the dielectric. up to
the present time, investigations of these phenomena have been carried out at the
Lodz Polytechnic Institute. From the discussion of conduction in organic dielec'~
tricsit is shown that the stability of this property is a complicated problem.
The conduction mechanism and the mechwdem of the phenomena associated with the
insertion or a dielectric in an electric field may.be explained In Its general,
traits by the band model. The adoption of such a theoretical base indicates the
most important physical parameters determining coMnetion and in this way points
the direction in which OVelcal invest1gations should move in order to explain the
physical basis for the changes oc-.,urring in organic dielectrics during their pro-
dudtion as veU as when they are -Ametionind in electronic devices. Orig. art.

ABSTRACT: The glass transition temperature for simple vinyl copolymers Is almost
-a linnar function of the weight (or volume) fraction of both comonomers and de-
~ends on their glaus transition temppratures. Copolymers containing ethylene and
ivinyl monomers in which isolated -CH2-CHR-CH2- groups exist have a constant glass
transition temperature (between -100C and -SOOC depending on the nature of the
alkyl group) within a wide composition range when the ethylene content is compara-
tively large. When the ethylene content in this type of copolymr is reduced past
a cartain.point, the glass transition temperature gradually Increases from the con-
stant value up to the glass transition temperature of the hooopolymer, In order to

Idetermine whether vinyl copolymers modified by ultraviolet light behave like
ethylene copolymers or like simple vinyl copolymers with respect to glass transi-
tion temperature, Saran 0 films 15-20 v thick were subjected to ultraviolet radia-
i
tion from a Philips 57413 P/40 TUV low pressure mercury lamp with a power of 30
iWatts. About 901 nf the output from this UV source Is at the resonance line
(A= 2537 A) strongly absorbed by Saran B. The irradiated samples were tested for
!density, gel content and glass transition temperature. Density and gel content are
given as functions of irradiation time In figs. I and 2 of the Enclosure respec-
tively. The glass-transition temperature was determined by the dilatometric method$
using Bekkedahl's dilatometer (N. Bekkedahl, J. Research N.B.S., 43 (1949), 371).
IThe Saran B samples were placed in the dilatometer, heated to 500C and degassed
'for several hours at a pressure of 10-3 mm lig before the instrument was filled with
imercury. The dilatometer was then placed In a thormostat and held at a constant

;tcmperature 10.00C for 30 minutes. The height of the mercury column was then used

radiation causes the glass transition temperature in Saran R to change from the

Abstrict The Swiss Railroad Administrattion uses quick-drying I
VVA-based water-amulaion painto for railroad freight
cars. The drying rate of these points on gla
plates at 18-200 is 2 hre. The paints are n:8t
damaged during transport in the winter and have
withstood tests in which they are cooled to -200
for 2 hra. The hardened films are not softened by
the application of a second coat of the same paint,
are resistant to abrasion, and do not contaminate
a cotton wad [sict nonbl6ading?]. PVA paint

PERIODICALt Vestnik avyazi, 1958, Nr 9, p 20 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: The article describes the mobile postal and telephone de-
partment, the Drogobych Combined Communications Office.
The unit consists of a van, fitted up as a small post of-
fice, which can be hitched to a truck for haulage and is
set up in market places. Officials at tables outside the
van sell fruit boxes and packaging materials for parcels.
The finished packages are then registered and received in
the van. Apart from the postal department, telephone fa-
cilities are also available. There is I photo.

Problem of near-sonic flow around a profile
Periodical Prikl. met. imokh. 18, 547-56o, SeP/Oct 1954
Abstract A stabilized.near-sonic gas flow in absence of friction and heat
exchange is analyzed. As an example, a symmetrical flow around
a wedge Is computed under assumption that the disruption line Is
disconnected, the flow velocity at infinity exceeds little the sound
velocity and the wedge has a narrow aperture angle. The distribu-
tion of pressure along the profile, the position and shape of the
disruption line, and the equation of the sonic line are established.

Periodical i Doki. AN 33SR# Vol, 97, Ed. 1# 37 39P July 1954
Abstract A mathematical expression is fomulated stating thatp for a symmetric
and uniform flow of gas around a Y-shaped surface, a boundary-value pro-
blem, relative to the hodograph planep is presented under certain
conditions of absence or friction and heat transfer. In order to find
the flow characteristics around the wedge, in the case of an intensive
flow separation, &mixed-type ellipae-hyperbolic equation# must be
solved, The article describes the method of solving this equAtion,
transforadng its on the basis of Cauchy's theoremp into a simplified
system of linear algebraic equatiom Three USSR references (19470

Periodical Prikl. mat. i mekh.0 190 Sep-Oct 1955, 639-640
Abstract The problem of the uniqueness for the gas-dynamic equation of
Chaplygin X(s) Ptt * Poo - 0 was posed and solved by F. I. Frankll
("Problems of Chaplygin for mixed subsonic and supersonic flows,"
.Izvestiya AN SSSR, Seriya matem., 9, No 2, 1945)- In the present
note the writer demonstrates in a similar manner the uniqueness
of the problem of circulation around a wedge-shaped profile by an
adiabatic gas flow in the absence of friction and heat exchange
with disconnected shock wave; thin problem is reduced to the so-
lution of boundary-vulue problem like the ones discussed by L. V.
