Czetviertynski, !onsultant in the field of hydrology Professor F. Dqbski ) has supplied the data for the plan of the development of the Polish water economy, which in to take place in the years up to 1975. In order to regulate and distribute the water supply equally both in regard of time and region, reservoirs with an aggregate capacity of 9000000000 cu m will be con- structed in those areas in which the supply exceeds the de- mand. In 1945 the Stateflydrometeorological Institute (SHI)v which was then headed by Doctor MaLuaievicz, was established in W4rBaw. From 1949 to 1953 the Institute was in the charge of 11ts present director (since 1953) is Pro- `_-_.-__-_" . ~--~, ~ .. .1 . . - ~ - ~~ ~_A ~~. ~~ _1, I ~- ---,; ~-- Setup of Hydrological Investigations in the Peoploon jOV/50-59-2-19/25 Republio of Poland foosol W- OkaaWlcz . The SHI has the following dopartmentsi departments of networks and doaumentation, hydroloey, metooro- logy, forecasts, oceanography (at Gdynya), and economy. Be- side the central department of hydrology at Warsaw there are seven hydrometeorological departments in the major cities of the country. There are about 1300 hydrological stations in Poland. The department of hydrology of the SHI is in the charge of Z. 1LL:v-0.vki* . Observations of tha levels and water supplies made in the course of many years (Read Z. Kenig) showed that In the various sections of the rivers Vistula and San great losses 'in water supply occur. This fact found by an analysis was confirmed by an investigation made in 1956-58. T. Vavro suggoated an empirical formula for the determination of the turbidity of the Vistula. The water balances of the individual basins 13 now being established (V. Stefan, Head of the Sector of Water Balance). The Sector of LimnoloRy (Head T. Clhomit~t) is studying the forminC of swamp at the Roinov reservoir. TITLE: The Interrelationship Between the Prevailing Rock Pressure and the Rock Shifting Associated With the Digging of Horizontal Underground Mine Workings (Vzaimosvyaz' sdvizheniya i davleniya gornykh porod pri provedenii gorizontalInykh gornykh vyrabotok) PERIODICAL: Izv. Kiyevsk. politekhn. in-ta, 1956, Vol 17, pp 277-308 ABSTRACT: Results are given of experimental and theoretical investigations made of the interrelationship between the rock pressure prevailing in the immediate vicinity of horizontal underground mine workings and the shifts that occur in the rock enclosing such mine workings. The rock-shift parameters were studied experimentally on mine-in-ground models subjected to the controlled vibrations of a vibrator device; to depict theoretically the rock-shifting process, the author uses a sys- tem of equations for the motion of a heavy, viscous, incompressible medium. Formulas are given for determining the distance traveled by a given, point in rock involved in vertical and horizontal shifts as a Card 1/2 function of: 1) the total volume of rock removed in the initial SOVII 24-57-5-5996 The Interrelationship Between the Prevailing Rock Pressure (cont.) excavation and subsequent mining operation; Z) the location of the reference point; 3) the viscosity of the rock Involved; 4) the computed average of the recorded lengths of time that shifts are in progress. In addition, expressions are given for calculating the sag of both unsupported and prop-supported roofs, and for calcu- lating the ultimate bearing reaction of a prop. An example is given wherein the pressure of the rock on a mine's support -timbering is calculated. Bibliography: 13 references. 1. V. D, Eng1neer, XMIlanovukly. A. L.. Kunnetsov, M. P., Bortunov, Ye. M., Burkhan, TwIrm - ____ ____ TITLE: Reconditioning of Rolls by Automatic Building-Up PIRPIODICAL: Svarochnoye proizvodstvo, 1c,61, No. 2, pp. 28-31 TFWr: The selection of proper conditions for the building-tip of rolls is only possible if various method be te3ted at the same plant using the same rolling mill olid rolls. At the Metalluraleal Plant imeni Dzerzhinskly a comparison was made in 1958-59 of results obtained by bullding-up steel rolls of a 550 roughing stand of the 3.30 and 260 section m1lls using alloyed steel wire and conventional welding wire under ceramic flux. The tests were mqde with the participation of workers of the Plant including G. P. Klimenko, V. P. Latyshev, P. F. Novikov, N. S. Nazarova. The following technology of building-up the rolls was employed: Pre- heating of the roll at the spot to be built-up to 380-1100 0C by an electric inductor; temperature control was made with thermopencI13 composed of 1Wv nickel carbonate and 60% petroleum paraffin. Building-up wan ;~crformed under conditions given in Table 1. The sequence of building-up was selected according to the shape of the Card 16 L;/13.5/61/000/002/007/012 Reconditioning of Bolls by Automatic Building-Up A006/AOOI grovves to the built-up by taking into account the inclined position of the roll. (Figure 2) DuriN the building-up process temperature of the surfaces was maintained at about 380-400 C. The rolh were then cooled In n thermostat for about 12 - 18 hours down to 40 - 600C. The built-up rolle were gubjected to mechanical process- Ing. The chemical composition of the built-up metal was determined (Table 2); wear resistance of the rolls was compared with that of rolls which had not been built-up (Table 3). As a result of the investigations performed It was found that automatic arc building-up of steel rolls under ceramic fluxes was one of the iimpla:t and best available methods for reconditioning the rolls. The use of ceramic fluxes combined with Sv-08 wire, produces built-up metal of high wear resistance. The ceramic fluxes can succesufully replace the scarce nnd expensive high-alloy elec- trode wires and assure considerable economical ndvantages. The comparison of some variants of building-up showed the advantve of using ceramic fluxe; building-up with such fluxes is recommended for large-scale production, which Is however Impeded by the lack of this material produced on a large scale. On the Conductivity of Somiconductine Tin Dioxide (0 provodimosti poluprovodnikovoy dvu okiai olova) PERIODICAL: Zhurnal tokhnichasko,7 fizikif 1958, Yol. 26, Nr 7, pp. 1489 - 1490 (U33H) ABST:IACT: The electric conductivity of' tin dioxide was investigated with different deviations from the atoichiometric compooition. The semiconducting tin dioxide wan produced by the oxidation of tin monoxide at high tomperaturua. The initial tin monoxide wun produced according to the mathod by Ditte (flef 3). The measurements of the conductivity were carried 2 out at pressed samples ouojected to LL pressure of 1000 kg/cM The electric conductivity of the sumklea was depending on the oxidation, within the range offrom 2,5 10-5 to -7 - 1 -1 3 6 10 ohm CM . The dark conductivity (meajured according to the sign) was in all casej dependent on eleotronfl. The rooulto obtained upeuk in favor of the presence of two kinde of disturbances in the stoichiometric ~Iard 112 composition of tin dioxide; Either it is cau8od by the I On thc Conductivity of jumiconducting Tin Dioxide -Jul/ 'j7.2,j-'1-20/.j5 presence of monoxido admixtures or by the ~,reuence of motullic tin. It is mostprobablo that I)oth diuturbance3 occur tit the same time. The expiriment tiloo Aowed that tho disturbance of the otoichiometry in tin dioxide cuusej L farp.-reater conductivity by the additions of atoms of metallic tin than does the diaturb~Lnce by admixtures of monoxide. The duta given rove the aosumption mado earlier by tho author (Ref Y) that a film of semiconducting tin dioxide on glass is a trivalent 3yatem SnO 2 - SnO Sn. TITLE: Films of Semiconductive Tin Dio~~ . =,"h iRiars;ed ~Conductivity PERIODICAL: Zhurnal prikladnoy khimii, 1959, Vol 32, Nr 5, pp 1161-1163 (US3R) ABSTRACT: Transparent oemiconductive films of tin 4ioxide on glass are widely used in aviation, sea and land transportation, photoelectric and eloo- troluminescent devices, etc. 11hey are prepared by treating glass heated to 600 - 6500C by alcohol solutions of tin tetrachloride, or by treat- Ing glass heated to 4000C by vapors of the products of hydrolysis of tin dichloride. The film have a resistance of several hundred ohms. For films of about ten ohms the thickness of the film must be increased, which deteriorates the transparency, or the electric conductivity muat be raised. This can te attained by addirg pentavalent metal atoms or fluorine atoms. The introduction Of 141V In the amount of 3 - 10 weight % into a powder of SnC12 yields best results. Pyrolytiq trea Iment of the glass Increases the specific conductivity to 3 - 10-_~' ohm- - cm-1. The filin has a thickness of 0.25,% and a resistance of 10 ohns. Its Card 1/2 -transparency is improved. Films of Semlcondu,~tive Tin Dioxide With Raijed Corduotivity -`W/80-32-5-42/52 There are: 1 table and 5 referc-rQes.. 4 of which are Soviet and 1 English.
