TITLE: An arrangement for measuring the ferrite resonant
line in a waveguide with diaphrap

TEXT: The author describes a very simple method of measuring the
resonant line width of ferrites. The measuring arrangement consists
of typical elements having no special requirements. It consists of
a generator, accurate alternator, a section of a waveguide with
diaphragm and of a detection circuit. A short justification of the
method is given first. The author considers the coupling between
two waveguides joined together by means of a diaphragm common to
both; the diaphragm has at its center a small circular aperture
which is filled with ferrite. The ferrite is magnetized by a con-
atant magnetic field along the x-axis. An analysis is then made in
the 14KSA system of units for the steady state and harmonic time

function of type e-Jwt. The symbolic notation is used throughout.
The problem is solved in the same way as it has been done by D.C.
Stinson for couplers (Ref. 5: Coupling through an aperture contain-
ing an anisotropic ferrite, IRE Trans,. vol. MTT-5, July 1957 184-
191). It may be seen that the coueling of two waveguides connected
symmetrically is proportional to Juj and that of waveguides twisted
with respect to each other by 900 proportional irc 1. From this,
follows the possibility of measurement of ferrite lines. It is
especially easy to measure the resonance line width A H, which is
defined as the limits of variation of the constant magnetic field,
at which either 151or 1.~j have their values V-2 times less than
those at resonance. It is also easy to measure the spectroscopic
coefficient of diffusion gef. fThis coefficient is deter-mined from
the known relationship gef a , where f is the measurement
frequency in mc/s and Hr the resonance value of the magnetic field
intensity in oersteds. It can be shown that the form of

when it determines the coupling through a hole completely filled
with ferrite does not change. Measurement is performed using the
twisted system of waveguides, when coupling its a function of con-
stant magnetic field follows the coefficient M . In the other
system - the coupling does not follow JAI because it is then re-
sulting from coupling both through the ferrite and the non-filled-
in portion of the hole. The results of measurement of.6 H in both
systems will thus differ considerably. Only measurements with the
twisted system are of value. The 'results are shown in tabulated
form together with the results of measurements of coupling with
diaphragm, the results of measurements are given as performed by
the author on a hybrid coupler and with the results obtained using
resonance methods as performed at the Heinrich Hertz Institut in
Berlin and at the Institut fur Magnetische Werkstoffe in Jena. All
samples were made of ferrites designed at IPPT-PAN. 1"he measure-
ments were performed using ball samples at a frequency 9300 Mc/s.
The diaphragm had a thickness t. w I mm with a hole of d - 3.7 mm

detector characteristic negligible, an attenuator attenuated the
resonance power by 3 db in the detector which was the power level
of AH measurement. It must be added that this method can be
applied to polar measurements. For this purpose additional holes
were drilled in the waveguide. The author acknowledges the help

TEXT: The Tiethod of measurement of the diode junction resistance
at its working frequencies in the microwave range and of diode capa-
citance is described# and fundamental relations between the diode
parameters are presented. The reciLtance and capacitance of the dio-
de junction are obtained from measurement of its impedance which ie
accomplished with a measuring head; atgiven frequency this head is
combined with an ideal transformer of ratio N and reactance X, con-
nected in series with the junction impedance Z d as shown on Fig, 4~
Eleme.nts of this circuit are measured according to the procedure
de*scri,jed and the resistance and capacity of the junction are cal-

Preserved human blood was administered L v. in 16 rabbits (of t 2 kg.). 10 ml.
per kg, body weight. After 4 weeks 8 of them received 100 mg. ACTII i. v. Three
hours afterwards 6 ml. of human' blood was given i. v. to all the rabbits. The
8 controls died from anaphylactIc shock. Of those with ACTII only one suc-
cumbed, one had a severe shock and 6 had only mild symptoms.

Abstract: Imals an inflamMatory reaction of the connec-
tive tissue of the stroma of the myocardium
was notedj with the growth of the intercellu-
lar substancel a decline of the fibro - and
histiocytes, and with damage of the muscle
fibers. In one rabbit, an inflammatory focus
of the media of the aorta was noted. In the
control animls, similar changes were not found.
In the experimental rabbits, in addition, a
more frequent and profuse round-cell infiltra-
tion of the myocardium was observed.

The nature of the phenomenon of 'cold' or 'chillint,' is not yet well understood: it
in assumed to occur in the or antern with a disorder of thermoregulation. *Chilling'
in man is usually the result of a relatively rapid cooling, preceded by a dilatation
of the cutaneous vessels and a dehydration due to evaporation and sweating. To
create similar conditions in rabbits, the animals were given pilocarpine (0.02 mg./
kg. s.c.) and after a lapse of 30 min. they were transferred from an environment at
25*C. to a cold room at + VC. The object of this was to induce dilatation of the
blood vessels, especially in the skin, and dehydration. The experiments were per-
formed during the summer. Five rabbits were subjected once each to pilocarpine
and low-timperature treatment: 5 others underwent this experiment twice, with an
interval of one week: 5 controls were kept for 3 hr. in the cold room only and 5
other controls received pilocarpine only. After 3 months all rabbits were killed
and their kidneys examined histologically. In the rabbits subjected to pilocarpine
plus cold. lesions of the collecting tubules and papillarf ducts (ducts of Bellini)
were found. In addition to hyperplasla of the interstitis tissue. These lesions
were especially marked in the kidneys of rabbits which had twice undergone the
action of pilocarpine cold. No such lesions were seen In the kidneys of control
rabbits.

TEM The patent covers a generator of TV signals for the repair
and tuning of television sets. The generator develops a complete
TV signal of positive and negative polarity, an RF signal in the
band 49 - 75 and 175 - 225 Mc/s modulated by vision and sound sig-
nals, and also voltages at frequencies of 100 c/o and 6.5 (5.5)
Mc/s. For the picture one may use vertical or horizontal barol or
a lattice. Independent supply of vision and sound signals'is poss-
ible. Features of the generator are the use of a ganged variable
capacitor and an adjustable potentiometer divider allowing one to
continuously vary the amplitude of the RF voltage, potentiometers
for adjusting the voltage of the complate,,TV signal, quartz crystal

The bone marrow is collected from the medial side of the proximal end of the ulna.
The hen is placed on its back. The needle with the mandrin Is inserted between the
flexor carpi u1naris and pronator brevis muscles 1.5-2 cm. away from the uInar
process of the u1nar bone. Forceful pressure punctures the thin layer of compact
bone tissue. The moment when the needle enters the bone marrow cavity is dis-
tinctly felt. After withdrawal of the mandrin and attachment-of the syringe to the
needle. the piston of the syringe Is withdrawn until the first drop of bone marrow
substance appears. The coUected substance is deposited an a clean, degreased
slide.
