The specimens were cylin- drical rods 50 mm long and 3 mm in diameter. Dilatomatric curve.,j are given in the 20-2400C range for heating and cooling at a rate of 2000/hr. The experiments were done on specimens containing water of crystallization, as well as on specimens pre- heated to 2000C. Anomalies were observed in the variation in length of the speci- mens containing water of crystallization at 70-80 and at 150-1600C. These irregu- larities showed up as a reduction in the length of' the specimen during heating. Card 1/2 L 10576-66 'ACC NR: AP5025409 0 .Cooling curves for the same specimens did not show thete anomalies. Ibis effect was not observed upon immediate reheating of the specimens. The anomalous variation in length during heating reappeared after the samples werf. held at room temperature in a humid atmosphere. The coefficient of linear expansi(@n for NaI specimens predried .at 2000C is proportional to temperature from 20 to 2401C and increases with thallium :concentration. Orig. art. has: 2 figures. AN s=. ser. fir.. 18/60 66,Z-683o Nov-Doe 1954 Abstract I Experiments were conducted to determine what characteristics of absorption spectra will be of any value for the possibility of observinq combined diffusion spectra in the tons of the absorption band. It ispointed out that the study of combined light diffusion spectra in the absorption band zone is possible only in the absence of fluorescence in the investigated part of the apectr=. It is shown that combined light diffusion spectra can be obtained much easier in zones of highly intensive and wide absorption bands than in zones of lose intensive and narrower bands. To obtaIr a "saturation" that is th black radiation in the spectral range of 0.1-0 2 A at temperatures of-2,0008K, an addition of sodium to the flame of r-j1013:1014 sodium atoms per 1 cm3 to the flame Is sufficient. This addition has practic;illy no influence or, the behavior of the flame. A concave longfocal diffraction gratirg Is used in 0 the installation. The Fabri-Pero (Fabrie-Perau?) standard can serve as a basis for a protable device measuring the temperature of a technical flame with a low bacYground levol. The optical circuit of the device con3lst3 of a condenser, color filter, lens with a stop, cutting out the central part of the interference pattern which enters the cathode of the photomultiplier of the photometer. A new optical system for measuring the flame temperature using a sodium resonance lamp is also proposed. The lamp has a special extension where sodium is placed. By regulating the temperature of the extension, the intensity of the resonant radiation is controlled. The c&librating curve of the lamp can be built either by using the Plank law or experimentally by the calibrated temperature lamp "-/)T-3" (LT-3). M. S. K.
