TOPIC TAGS: photometer, luminescent material, phosj@or, light source
ABSTWX-1: Measurements of the temperature variations of the brightness standards used
in an electrophotometer as a reference light source ire given. The brightness stand-
ardG in question are manufactured on an experimental basis by the State Institute of
Applied Chemistry. They consist of phosphors excitel by soft 8-radiation of radioac-
,tive carbon, applied on the base inside a metallic civette with a cerium window. One
,of the standards emits a green light and the other eiits a blue light. The data were
obtained in a stationary temperature state of the raliating layer. The thermostat con---
sisted of a copper cylinder containing the brightnest standard and a heater. Thermis-
@tors, used to sense the temperature, were placed ins.de the cylinder next to the bright-
ness standards. The thermistors were connected to t m arms of a resistance bridge

reflector for photoelectric observations, a 20-cm reflector for spectroscopic obser-;,
vations, a special camera for photographing artificial earth satellites and a tran-
sit instrument. Work in stellar astronomy is being done in t@ree basic categories:
general problems of stellar dynamics, overall structure of the Galaxy and other
stellar systems, and local galactic structure in the vicinity of the solar system.
Work is being done at the observatory on cosmological problems (mainly in the field
of gravitational theory) and on problems of metagalactic structure. In the field
of geodesy, work is being done at the observatory on tectonic motions of the Earth's@
crust. Several actinometric instrtiments have been designed and built at the obser-

ABSTRACT: The effect of no,.-mal additive noiae at the p!ant output upon a. step-

analyzed. An extremal system is Considered vehich makes large step incremonts
when far from the optimum and small steps near the optimum. Also, no informa-

sy stem are examined: (1) With a fixed value of the step and with a variable
number of trials; (2) With a variable step and a fixed number of trials; (3) With
both, variable. General equations covering all thrce systems are set up and
investigated with reference to a block diagram comprising the plant, the extremal
controller, and a plant-state identifier. The average search time is determined
and evzluated for all three systems under the conditions of any signal-to-noise
ratio. Also, equations for and a method for calculating the steady-state error are
developed. Orig. art. has: 6 figures and 28 form-alas.

We be$;an preparations to the contest in January 1956. Our hwu are
ready to work under field conditions using battery supplies. There are
15 ultrashort-wave stations in private use and 3 owned collectively now;
15 more are expected to take part in the contest. Our goal is that every
higher-learning institute, every high school, and every larger enterprise
in KhaAov and smaller towns surrounding it have an ultrashort-weve radio

(Aviakhimicheskaya bor'ba gryzunami)
PERIODICAL: Grazhdanskaya aviatsiya, 1957, Nr 11, P. 31 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: Since 1955, fighting of gophers and other rodents in
the Stalino region is conducted from the air. Corn
grains poisoned by zinc phosphide were strewn over
the fields for some time, but the animals often avoided
the poison by eating up the core of the grain without
taking the shell. In 1957, corn was replaced by oats
soaked in sunflower-seed oil for fragrance. To 80-86
weight parts of oats 4 -5 parts of oil and 10-15 parts
of zinc phosphide are added. The proportion of the
poison should not exceed 15 parts to avoid blackening
of the grain and leaving repulsive odor. A hectare
is novered by 3 kg of treated oats.

sb. "Paramagnitn. rezonans", Kazan, Kazansk. un-t, 1960, 123-125)
TEXT: The author presents the curves of dependence of electronic paramag-
netic resonance absorption on constant external field, perpendicular and paral-
lel to the high-frequency field, at a frequency of 9.3kMc in the MnCl2,4H2o salt;
'he salt was used undiluted with MgC12,4H20 at ratios MniMg being: 70; 5:5;
3:7 and 1:9. In parallel fields absorption decreases monotonously with field in-
crease. In perpendicular fields the curves have one maximum with factor g-2.
The shape of the curves is described by Shaposhnikov's theory ("Zh. eksperim. I

assures Che discharge of a basic flow of informa(lon 0 a user in concise terms, as vrell
as a reliable feedback from the user to tlic ifformation system, and also provides for
obtaining copies of publications as requircd. The prermace of feedback makes It possible
to tak-P. into accoitnt user Interest in materials ia ternis of rpecifle subject matter and
specific format of the material. The lack of feedback h',ta am adverse effect on the opera-
tion of largo-scale information centera like VINTIT and may lead to a leveling off of ,
infom'latton communication. Descriptlonq are givert oEan experimeAt on the preparation
of an express bibliographic bulletin for rapid reporting of publications: received by

1ABSTRACTi The authors studied the synthesis and properties of the polyamide PT)G
i obtained by a reaction of docanedicarboxyllo acid with hox-amothyleneliamile. Polymeri-
Ization was performed at 2600. By the common industrial method the reagents formed a
Isalt that molted at 182-184C, Synthesized PDG melted at 218-221C, contained < 1.5%
,of monomer or low-@moleculax-weight products, &nd a 0.5% solution of FDG in *tricresol"
1@hzA a specific viscosity of 0*7-0,8. The thormomochanical, curve of FDG is a typical
curve of crystalline compounds (Fig. 1). 1ho phyniaomochanical proportion of FDG, do-
tormined on eamples molled at 250C and then at 35-40C and connitionen for 3 days in a
165% relative humiaty atmosphere at 20-22C, rare tabulated below:
