Abstract: The problem is examined of trimming branches from
ptne in order to increase the quality of the wood
in mixed and pure stands (Hungary). Trinming is
proposed in stands of I., II and,, more rarely., in
out locality class gradings. Practically, it was
established that it is best to carry out the first
trimming at a trmk diameter of under 16 am. When
selecting trees:, one must be governed in the first
place by their sizes and only secondarily by their
age. The choice of 77-240 specimens of pine, per
single hectare depending on the locality class and

The purpose of the present research was to explain how vitamin
~~-B is extracted from milk and whether or not KCN was necessary as a
:.'-Is&ilizing substance in this extraction-
Various microbiological methods were used and they proved that,
vithout KCN, vitamin B is destroyed. Complete stabilization is at-
p.-iltained by the addition of four ml of a 0.01 % solution of KCN to 25 ml
-',of the sample.

TITLE: The influence of radiation on the state of a gas
before the front of a shock wave

TEXT: The distribution of excited atoms before -the front of
a shock wave in a monatomic gas is examined. Firstly, the
concentration na of excited atoms before a front arising as a
result of the absorption of radiation emitted by the front is
considered and integro-differential equations with respect to n.
are derived. Transitions can occur between different excited
states and the effect of the presence of a metastable state for
the case of a shock wave passing through mercury vapor is shown to-;
produce a considerable increase in the concentration of excited
atoms. The concentration of electrons before a shock as a result
of photo-ionIzation Is also considered in detail. These results
are compared with experiment; in particulAr with the work of
H.D. Weymann,(Phys. of Fluids, V-3, 196o, 545, and Bull. Amer.
Physe Socat v.61 1961, 212). He shows that at 5 cm from the front

the diffusion is amb:ipolar while at greater distanceis (5-50 cm)
Charge separation occurs. The velocity of the electric precursor
signal is also shown to be about twice the wave velocity. This

ABSTRACT: In certain cases the process of radilat'ive transfer nn be considered in
ithe framework of the theory of thermal conductivity. The main difficulty in this
case consists in calculating the moan free path of the radiation, or the Rosseland
~moan, which determines the magnitude of the radiant thermal conductivity coeffici-
ent. Accordingly, In the present paper, starting with the usual equation for the
radiation mean free path, there in considpred the Influence of spectrum lines, i%e.,
the radiation in the region of spectrum 4nes as opposed to radiation in the conti-,
ti huum, on the'Rosseland mean and-honce on'the value of the radiant thermal conducti-:
11vity coefficient. It is demonstrated for the 9;ecific case of hydrogen plasma that:~

neglect of the spectrum lines results in overestimation of the wan free path by all
significant factor. The relative importance of the radiatlpn In the lines Increases..
with increasing temperature and pressure. Thus, in saw cases neglect of the radia-~
tion in the lines and bands may result in appreciable errors. Moreover, taking i

extends the range of applicability of diffusion approximation. Finally, there is

TEXT: A variant of chromatography is suggested In which the mixture to
be separated flows continuously through the c9lumn and the carrier gas is
added in portions. The rules governing the motion of bands in convention-
al chromatography apply also to the resulting I'vacc-neies" (places con-
taining no; substance to be absorbed). Examples of vacantochromatograms
are given for hydrocarbon mixtures where-the "vacancies" were produced by

addition of 0.6 cm air. The asymmetry of peaks is less when using the
-suggested me'thod-than in the usual adsorption chromatography. The area
of the I'vacaTV peak is proportional to the volume of the carrier gas
added. The sensitivity can be increased by moving a temperature field
against the flow. Another variant'is the addition of carrier gas witli a
verifying agent, e.g. butane..--The impurity concentration can be calcu-___

lated from the ratio between the peaks of the gaseous impurities in He
and the peak of the butane vacancy. Vacantochromatography is particular-
ly recommended for the analysis of low-boiling impurities. The direct
use of a flame ionization detector is possible when analyzing nonbombus-
