Title Containers for the Radio Isotope Co6o.
Orig Pub Jaderna, energia, 1958, 4, iio 4, 98-102
Abstract The bulk coefficient of attenuation for load and iron have
approximately idegontial values in the region of X-ray
energies from Co . It is therefore best to design the
containers in such a way that the internal portion is made
of lead and the outer, thicker caae be made of iron. Data
are given for the calculation of the thickness of the con-
tainer walls of lead and iron. To show that the desip of
containers can give great economy in lerd or othor heavy
metals. Author's resuinc

The authors examined the vestibular reactions, the greneral niator respoiist, ,t;d
speech development. They found that there was a mutual relation betwi-en 0.(_!se 4
symptorris in 100 children born with irregular presentation of the foetus and ,;I ~G)
children born with normal presentation of the foetus. (1) In 7 1 1:~~ of the children burn
with irregular presentation of the foetus congenital vestibular disturbances we re re-
vealed, while these occurred only in 57o of the children born with'normal presenta-
tion of the foetus. (2) Out of 71 childrn with a serious vestibular disturbance 14
suffered also from a disturbance of motor functions and in 27 children thcre wZ15 a
distur'bance in speech development as well as a motor disturbance. These findings
confirm the assumptions of Pl~ececht6l. that the position of the foctus is regulated
by the vQstibula r organ, and if this organ is impaired, an irregular position of the
foetus results. This confirms also the assumption of Seeman that in cases of Con-
stitutional retardation of speech this retardation is associated with a disturbance
of the vestibular apparatus and a disturbance of motor activity. Speech retardation
is due to a disturbance of the cerebellum, which in the more serious cases is asso-
ciated with the above-mentioned symptoms, as has been proved histologically by

Abstract: Upon the splitting of the hydroxide of (-)-trimethyl-
2,3-dimethylezyl-2-anmonia, there is produced a mix-
ture of (+)-2i3-dimethyl-pentane (I), produced by the
hydrog3nation of the mixed alkenes. The dehydration
of (-)-2,3-dimethylpentanol-2 (II) by heating with

of (-)-3-methyl-4-e-vhyl-4-diinethylaminohg!xane (III),
which splits in the presence of CHJ into (+)-3-ethyl-4-

ABSTRACT: The authors investigated the abilit of inyl 3-trimethylsilylpropionate
to-copolym--rize with vial acetates methyl acrylatj methyl methacrylate, acryloni-
trile, aud styrene in the presence of azoisobtityr;nitrUe. It was found that vinyl
3-trimethylsilylpropionate can copolymerize with all the above monomers, with the
exception of styrene. When the content of vinyl 3-trimethylsilylpropionate in the
starting mixture is increased, the yields and molecular weights of the copolymers
are decreased. It was shoum that, unlike the homopolymers, the copolymers are more
easily soluble iniorganic solvents and have lower melting points. The relative
,thermal stability'Pof the copolyme=ization products with vinyl acetate and methyl

TEXT: Emulsion polymerization of butadiene, styrene, acrylonitrile, mixtures
of these, or these monpr~e.-s together with methacrylic acid, is carried out
between -5 and +15 0C (preferably +500 in the presence of a cation-active
emulsifier or inorganic acid, organic acid (or 'a mixture of these) and
suitable buffers. The redox initistor~;.,- system consists of isopropyl * I
benzene hydroperoxide, nodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate (Rongalite C) and
soluble Fe 2+ salt. Apart from the fact that the initiators are readily
available, the advantage of the method lies in a high degree of conversion
being achieved in a short time and the consequent possibility of producing
concentrated latexes directly in the reactbr. Example. 100 parts by weight

styrene and 1.4 parts by weight methacrylic acid are polymerized at 50C
and PH 4 in the presence of 159.parts by weight water, 3.58 parts by
weight sodium diisopropyl naphthalene sulfonate, 0.08 parts by weight
sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate, 0.008 parts by weight Fe 2+ salt and
M59 parts by weight diisopropyl benzene hydroperoxide. In 3 hrs the
conversion reaches 80%. [Abstracter's note: Complete translation.]
