TEXT: Formulas are derived to measure the magnetic field's verti-
cal component with height above the anomaly:epicenter for a number
of simple geometric bodies (a vertical dipole, d dipole line, a
schematic magnet, etc.). On the basis of these formulas the author
constructs pallets, which rep:~esent the dependences of the ra~tio
.of the maximum values of the magnetic field's vertical component
.at two levels on the distance between these levels in units of the
disturbing body's depth for a number of levels and for a set of
values-of the parameter characterizing the body's shape. The pal-
--lets are laid out on a bilogarithmic scale. The suggested method

TITLE: An installation for testing sheet materials. Class 42, No. 186178

TOPIC TAGS: sheet metal, fatigue test, stress corrosion, hydraulic device, vibration

ABSTRACT: This Author's Certificate introduces: 1. An installation for fatigue test-!
ing sheet materials in a highly active liquid aggressive medium. The unit contains a.~
loading device made in the form of a hydraulic cylinder with oil as the working fluid
an operational chamber with the aggressive medium holding the specimen to be tested
which receives a low-frequency pulse from the hydraulic cylinder, and a pipeline con-
necting the cylinder to the chamber. The destructive action of the aggressive medium
on the components of the installation is prevented by sequential placement of dia-
phragm type hydraulic separaters in the pipeline to form three mutually isolated sec-
tions. These sections are filled (counting from the hydraulic cylinder toward the
working chamber) with oil, Water and the aggressive medium which receives the pulse
from the hydraulic cylinder and acts directly on the specimen to be tested. 2. A MOCL-1
ification of this installation in which a wide range of stresses is proVided for test-~,
ing the specimen by using a high-frequency vibrator, e. g..an electromagnet, mounted L

TRANSLATION: The kidney was removed from a dog, placed into a sterile dish,
and surrounded with moist cotton-gauze pads; then physiological saline was
poured into the dish and it was placed in a refrigerator at +1-4C. The kid-
ney was then transplanted to the right side of the-neck of the dog. The
.renal artery was anastom~sed with the carotid artery, and the renal vein with
the external jugular vein. Before the anastomosis, one-drop of sterile-vase-
line was put into the lumen of each vessel, followed by perfuoion of the kid-
ney with 60-70 ml of blood in order to removethe toxic substances. The trans-
planted kidney started.to function within 4-8 days. Kidneys preserved 2-28

TRANSIATION: It was shown in experiments on 21 dogs that a stable*graft was
established after autotransplantation of kidneyp preserved up to 28 hours
voiding of urine was observed after 2-7-days). One obstacle to a perfect
graft was the appearance of anatomical changes (pyelonepliritio, stenosis or

After transplantation of ki neys preserved more than 28 hours (up to 1000
hours), necrosis 'of the ne.lrons, thrombosis of the renal vein and other changes
occurred. Upon removal of the second kidney, preserved no more Phan 28 hours

T'itlet Pulse Discharge in Long Air Gap Under Atmospheric Pressure
Original
Periodical: Elektrichestvo, 1956, No 4, 86-88
Abstract: A review of work of Swedish scieritiets'Norindev and Salka, -who
used a stationary photographic camera with quartz lens to investi-
gate the discharge in a sphere-to-plane gap. The positive pulse
discharge W~e.pulse voltage reached 1)100 kv) goes through 3 phases.
In the first chase of the discharge., a corona appears and develops,
in the second there occurs a leader and a "corona" which extends
away from the ends of its branches., and in the third the principal
discharge channel occurs. If the polarity of the high-voltage elec-
trode is negative, the discharge occurs in a more complicated manner
in certain consecutive stages. During the time of the last stage

Abstract: the filaments of the cor6ba elements reach the plane. The channels
of the plasma develop both at the plane as well as at the sphere.
After the channels meet, the principal discharge occurs. The effect
of barriers on the development of various stages of discharge during
positive and negative polarity of the upper electrode were considered.
A miniature clydonograph was used to measure the field intensity at
various points of the discharge gap. Bibliography, 7 titles.

ABSTRACT: Problems of the calculation of voltage wave distortions
in the formation of a discharge in a long air-gap are in-
vestigated here. The rules governing the change of the
current prior to the discharge are the most important of
these problems. First the method of investigation is gi-
ven. A generator for pulse voltages of 3 mV and a capacity
in the discharge of 36oo and 72oo uF was used in these in-
vestigations. It is shown that the measurement of the cur-
rent before the discharge with connecting the shunt between
plane and earth gives practically the same results as the
measurement from the side of the grounded rod when bringing
Card 1/4 the voltage wave of negative polarity to the plane. Accor-
Distortion of the Voltage Wave in the Formation 105-58-6-8/33
of a Discharge in a Wide Air-Gap
ding to authors' opinion, this method is equivalent to
that of conneoting the shunt on the side of the high-
-voltage-electrode of the positive rod and at the same
time it is essentially more simple since no measuring-
-instruments for high potential are reuqired. In order
to determine the distortion of the voltage wave, the de-
pendence of this current on the voltage must be known.
Numerous tests with different forms of the applied vol--
tage wave were carried out for the purpose of determining
the connection between the current prior to the discharge
and the voltage in the discharge-gap between the positive
rod and the plane. It was found that the current prior to
the discharge is approximately expressed by the formula
(1). This formula renders correctly the physical aspect
of the phenomenon. The current prior to the discharge
takes place under the condition that the voltage in the
gap exceeds the break-down voltage of the gap-part which
is not disturbed by the leader (lider). The dependence
Gard 2/4 given in reference 3, which correlates the instantaneous

velocity of development of the discharge-leader with an
instantaneous voltage-value in the discharge-gap and the
length of that part of the gap which iB not disturbed by
the leader-canal, as well as the formula (1) make it
possible to determine - by way of calculation - the form
of the voltage wave distorted by the process before the
break-down and the corresponding discharge-time of the
generator of the irapulse-voltages on the air-gap- if the
wave-shape with the free-motion of the generator (non-
distorted wave) is known. Neglecting the reactance in
the discharge-circuit, the calculation presents no diffi-
culties and is carried out according to the method of the
.successive intervals, analogous to the calculation of the
leader-velocity and to the time prior to the discharge in
reference 2. The measurements carried out according to
the method given here furnish a satisfactory conformity
with the test for unipolar waves of different form.

ABSTRACT: The relation betKeen the energy spent for discharge development
and the time of discharge is a universal characteristic of in-
sulator chains or an air gap. This characteristic does not
depend either on the form of the acting tension wave or on the
magnitude of the source resistance. These relations have a
hyperbolic character;to cut the time of discharge one must spend
more energy for its development. The amount of energy spent for
the formation of a discharge chamel is just a negligible part
Np-,to a few per cent) of the energy stored in capacitors of a

discharge circuit leads, at the same energy stored by a pulse voltage
generator, to a decrease in the energy of discharge and to a corresponding
increase in the time of discharge. The possibility of utilizing the energy
chbxacteristies for. coordination of Insulation is pointed out. A pulse
voltage generator of 1.8 Mv with a capacity in discharge of 0.028 microfarad
was used in tests. The resistance in the discharge circuit was 200 -
15,000 ohms. The energy for the formation of the discharge charmel was
determined from oscillograms of voltage on the object and volt-coulomb
characteristics.
