Abstract-. [Authors' Hungarian summary' Supplementing earlier observations
an humans and in dog experiments, the conclusion was reached that the serum
hexosamine level as well as the tissue bexosamine content of the liver and
the skin decreased considerably in rats which were subjected to prolonged
thyroxine treatment; at the same time, the serum hexosamine level as well
as the tissue hexosamine content of the liver and skin increased in rats
subjected to prolonged treatment with methylthiouracil. A study of the func-
tional histological appearance and tissue hexosamine content of the thyroid
of animals subjected to prolonged treatment with thyroxine and methylthio-
uracil, respectively, led to the conclusion that the high hexosamine con-
tent is bound to the colloid of the thyroid. 5 Eastern European, 11 Western

The time relations between low-frequency phonocardiograms and intracavitaTy
pressure curves were investigated in dogs. The dicrotic dip in the pressure curve of
the right ventricle corresponds in time to the openimg. of the atrioventricular vah-eq,

most piobably to that of the tricuspid. The end of the following wave coincides with
the beginning of the third heart sound and occurs during the phase of rapid inflow.
The curve of pulmonary capillary pressure is horizontal during the adynamic interval
of atrial systole. The pressiire starts to rise in the dynamic interval. The beginning
of rise in ventricular pressure, the end of the isometric contraction phase, and the end
of maximum ventricular ejection show distinctly in the pulmonary capillary pressure
curve. The first portion of the reduced ventricular ejection phase appears as a
separate wave in the pulmonary capillary pressure curve. The closure of the aortic
valves produces a slight negativity in the pulmonary capillary pressure curve. In
atrial fibriUation the pressurc.curve of the pulmonary artery corresponds to the
ventricular complexes of the electrocardiogram only in an inconstant way whereas
in the stethograrn a contraction wave corresponds invariably to every QRS complex.
The -3tethogram, being abnormal in atrial fibriUation, resumes its normal form
when sinus rhythm is restored.
