ABSTRACT: The state of the developments in the theoretical and experimental physics
iof the fast energy reactors in the Soviet Union is reviewed. Work on the fast re-
!actor BN-350 having a thermal power of 100 MW and an electric power of 350 MW has
!been recently initiated and its construction is expected to be completed by 1968--
:1969. The physical and technological feasibility of a fast reactor having an electric~
ipower of 1000 MW is being studied at the present. The experimental reactor BOR has
,been developed for the study of operational characteristics of high temperature and
ihigh pressure reactors. In a general way the review covers the followinv

large scale experiments on critical systems, exponential experiments, heterogeneous

experiments for fast neutrons, were performed at the Institute of Physical Energy

Abstract: Experiments conducted on 36 male rats aged 3 to 21~
months are described. Partial hopatectomy resulted in an increanl~-
ol' oxygen consumption, the. succinate oxidase activity was
decreased. Older rats that underwent a removal of 65-70% of
the "Liver were able to modify their energy and material metab-
olism to suLh an extent ti-tat a nearly normal liver regenerati.~)r,

Abstract: 84 rats aged 3 to 24 months wpre used in tile experir.-
ents. During the first 48 hours after-the removal of 65-70'0' of
the liver 'tissue, all rats showed an increase in tho blood con',nnt
of non-esterifiod fatty acids, increase in the lipolytic actillrity
of the fatty tiseue, and increase in the content of lipids in the
liver. The content' of the oxidation products of lipids in liver
tissue kept decreasing* . The rats were able to rostore nearly
normal regeneration function after the resection. 1 Figure,

Abstract: Experiments were conducted on 18 white rats. Nicro-
scopic examination took place 15 and 60 rqinutes after the
irradiation. No differences between the liver of irradiated
rats and controls were found; only the number'.of vacuoles

Abstract: The vieirht of the liver was reduced 65-70% by
hapatecto,my, and the irradiation took place 6 hours later. Samples
were taken 42 hours after irradiation; during this period no food
was given to the rats. Irradiation did not influence the
changes in composition of the liver and f-ts metabolism modifica-
tion resulting from the hepatectomy. I Figure, 5 Western,
