The operative as well as the conservative treatment of stricture of the urethra does
not always produce favourable results. There are often great difficulties even in the
introduction of filiform bougics. In cases of so-catled impenetrable strictures
this is absolutely impossible. Thus tile aathor was forced to resort to a method
which facilitates dilation of the stricture. The author grafted a piece of amnion
( 5 x 5 cm.) under the fascia of the thigh; the amnion being previously kept for
24 hr. in 216 chloramine solution at O*C. Ten patients were treated by this tech-
nique after undergoing unsuccessful treatment with other methods. The subjects
showed an improvement 24 to 48 hr. after intervention, They urinated more easily
and without the least effort. Five or 6 days after the operation it was almost always
possible to dilate the urethra to 16-20 without difficulty. The subjects were kept
under observation for 10 months, with a control every 6 to 8 weeks when a 20 F
Tieman sound was passed. Urinary disturbances disappeared completely and
all patients are in good health.

TEXT: The author studied the stability of a closed annular cylindrical
shell of constant thickness by linear and nonlinear formulation. The shell is
assumed to be elastic, thin and orthotropic, and subjected to the action of com-
bined axial compression p and external uniform cross pressure q. The correla-
tions of the theory of sloping shells are used. The boundary conditions are as-
sumed to be such that free sliding of the bearings along the axis of the shell
and uniform expansion of the bearings are possible. The Ritz energy mathod 13
applied; the deflection of the median surface of the shell is taken in the form

ABSTRACT: In 1955 only 6 million m3 of natural gas were used in
Soviet iron and steel works. The lanned 1957 and 1960
figures are 405 and 2700 million J, respectively. These
increases are partly to offset the fall in the output of
blast-furnace gas due to improvements in furnace efficien-
cy - at "Zaporozhstall" and Magnit *ogorsk the 1955 blast-
furnace gas outputs were 8B and 73.2%, respectively, of
the 1952 values. The expected sources, quantities and
users in the iron and steel industry of natural gas towards
the end of the Sixth PiveAYesr Plan are tabulated.
